¹And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying,

²This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.

²「この月をあなたがたの初めの月とし、これを年の正月としなさい。

³Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:

³あなたがたはイスラエルの全会衆に言いなさい、『この月の十日におのおの、その父の家ごとに小羊を取らなければならない。すなわち、一家族に小羊一頭を取らなければならない。

⁴And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbor next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.

⁴もし家族が少なくて一頭の小羊を食べきれないときは、家のすぐ隣の人と共に、人数に従って一頭を取り、おのおの食べるところに応じて、小羊を見計らわなければならない。

⁵Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:

⁵小羊は傷のないもので、一歳の雄でなければならない。羊またはやぎのうちから、これを取らなければならない。

⁶And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.

⁶そしてこの月の十四日まで、これを守って置き、イスラエルの会衆はみな、夕暮にこれをほふり、

⁷And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.

⁷その血を取り、小羊を食する家の入口の二つの柱と、かもいにそれを塗らなければならない。

⁸And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.

⁸そしてその夜、その肉を火に焼いて食べ、種入れぬパンと苦菜を添えて食べなければならない。

⁹Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.

⁹生でも、水で煮ても、食べてはならない。火に焼いて、その頭を足と内臓と共に食べなければならない。

¹⁰And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.

¹⁰朝までそれを残しておいてはならない。朝まで残るものは火で焼きつくさなければならない。

¹¹And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD's passover.

¹¹あなたがたは、こうして、それを食べなければならない。すなわち腰を引きからげ、足にくつをはき、手につえを取って、急いでそれを食べなければならない。これは主の過越である。

¹²For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.

¹²その夜わたしはエジプトの国を巡って、エジプトの国におる人と獣との、すべてのういごを打ち、またエジプトのすべての神々に審判を行うであろう。わたしは主である。

¹³And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

¹³その血はあなたがたのおる家々で、あなたがたのために、しるしとなり、わたしはその血を見て、あなたがたの所を過ぎ越すであろう。わたしがエジプトの国を撃つ時、災が臨んで、あなたがたを滅ぼすことはないであろう。

¹⁴And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

¹⁴この日はあなたがたに記念となり、あなたがたは主の祭としてこれを守り、代々、永久の定めとしてこれを守らなければならない。

¹⁵Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.

¹⁵七日の間あなたがたは種入れぬパンを食べなければならない。その初めの日に家からパン種を取り除かなければならない。第一日から第七日までに、種を入れたパンを食べる人はみなイスラエルから断たれるであろう。

¹⁶And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you.

¹⁶かつ、あなたがたは第一日に聖会を、また第七日に聖会を開かなければならない。これらの日には、なんの仕事もしてはならない。ただ、おのおのの食べものだけは作ることができる。

¹⁷And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever.

¹⁷あなたがたは、種入れぬパンの祭を守らなければならない。ちょうど、この日、わたしがあなたがたの軍勢をエジプトの国から導き出したからである。それゆえ、あなたがたは代々、永久の定めとして、その日を守らなければならない。

¹⁸In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.

¹⁸正月に、その月の十四日の夕方に、あなたがたは種入れぬパンを食べ、その月の二十一日の夕方まで続けなければならない。

¹⁹Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land.

¹⁹七日の間、家にパン種を置いてはならない。種を入れたものを食べる者は、寄留の他国人であれ、国に生れた者であれ、すべて、イスラエルの会衆から断たれるであろう。

²⁰Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.

²⁰あなたがたは種を入れたものは何も食べてはならない。すべてあなたがたのすまいにおいて種入れぬパンを食べなければならない』」。

²¹Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover.

²¹そこでモーセはイスラエルの長老をみな呼び寄せて言った、「あなたがたは急いで家族ごとに一つの小羊を取り、その過越の獣をほふらなければならない。

²²And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the basin; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.

²²また一束のヒソプを取って鉢の血に浸し、鉢の血を、かもいと入口の二つの柱につけなければならない。朝まであなたがたは、ひとりも家の戸の外に出てはならない。

²³For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.

²³主が行き巡ってエジプトびとを撃たれるとき、かもいと入口の二つの柱にある血を見て、主はその入口を過ぎ越し、滅ぼす者が、あなたがたの家にはいって、撃つのを許されないであろう。

²⁴And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever.

²⁴あなたがたはこの事を、あなたと子孫のための定めとして、永久に守らなければならない。

²⁵And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the LORD will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service.

²⁵あなたがたは、主が約束されたように、あなたがたに賜る地に至るとき、この儀式を守らなければならない。

²⁶And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?

²⁶もし、あなたがたの子供たちが『この儀式はどんな意味ですか』と問うならば、

²⁷That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the LORD's passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.

²⁷あなたがたは言いなさい、『これは主の過越の犠牲である。エジプトびとを撃たれたとき、エジプトにいたイスラエルの人々の家を過ぎ越して、われわれの家を救われたのである』」。民はこのとき、伏して礼拝した。

²⁸And the children of Israel went away, and did as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.

²⁸イスラエルの人々は行ってそのようにした。すなわち主がモーセとアロンに命じられたようにした。

²⁹And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.

²⁹夜中になって主はエジプトの国の、すべてのういご、すなわち位に座するパロのういごから、地下のひとやにおる捕虜のういごにいたるまで、また、すべての家畜のういごを撃たれた。

³⁰And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead.

³⁰それでパロとその家来およびエジプトびとはみな夜のうちに起きあがり、エジプトに大いなる叫びがあった。死人のない家がなかったからである。

³¹And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as ye have said.

³¹そこでパロは夜のうちにモーセとアロンを呼び寄せて言った、「あなたがたとイスラエルの人々は立って、わたしの民の中から出て行くがよい。そしてあなたがたの言うように、行って主に仕えなさい。

³²Also take your flocks and your herds, as ye have said, and be gone; and bless me also.

³²あなたがたの言うように羊と牛とを取って行きなさい。また、わたしを祝福しなさい」。

³³And the Egyptians were urgent upon the people, that they might send them out of the land in haste; for they said, We be all dead men.

³³こうしてエジプトびとは民をせき立てて、すみやかに国を去らせようとした。彼らは「われわれはみな死ぬ」と思ったからである。

³⁴And the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneadingtroughs being bound up in their clothes upon their shoulders.

³⁴民はまだパン種を入れない練り粉を、こばちのまま着物に包んで肩に負った。

³⁵And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment:

³⁵そしてイスラエルの人々はモーセの言葉のようにして、エジプトびとから銀の飾り、金の飾り、また衣服を請い求めた。

³⁶And the LORD gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians.

³⁶主は民にエジプトびとの情を得させ、彼らの請い求めたものを与えさせられた。こうして彼らはエジプトびとのものを奪い取った。

³⁷And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, beside children.

³⁷さて、イスラエルの人々はラメセスを出立してスコテに向かった。女と子供を除いて徒歩の男子は約六十万人であった。

³⁸And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle.

³⁸また多くの入り混じった群衆および羊、牛など非常に多くの家畜も彼らと共に上った。

³⁹And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they brought forth out of Egypt, for it was not leavened; because they were thrust out of Egypt, and could not tarry, neither had they prepared for themselves any victual.

³⁹そして彼らはエジプトから携えて出た練り粉をもって、種入れぬパンの菓子を焼いた。まだパン種を入れていなかったからである。それは彼らがエジプトから追い出されて滞ることができず、また、何の食料をも整えていなかったからである。

⁴⁰Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years.

⁴⁰イスラエルの人々がエジプトに住んでいた間は、四百三十年であった。

⁴¹And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.

⁴¹四百三十年の終りとなって、ちょうどその日に、主の全軍はエジプトの国を出た。

⁴²It is a night to be much observed unto the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of the LORD to be observed of all the children of Israel in their generations.

⁴²これは彼らをエジプトの国から導き出すために主が寝ずの番をされた夜であった。ゆえにこの夜、すべてのイスラエルの人々は代々、主のために寝ずの番をしなければならない。

⁴³And the LORD said unto Moses and Aaron, This is the ordinance of the passover: There shall no stranger eat thereof:

⁴³主はモーセとアロンとに言われた、「過越の祭の定めは次のとおりである。すなわち、異邦人はだれもこれを食べてはならない。

⁴⁴But every man's servant that is bought for money, when thou hast circumcised him, then shall he eat thereof.

⁴⁴しかし、おのおのが金で買ったしもべは、これに割礼を行ってのち、これを食べさせることができる。

⁴⁵A foreigner and an hired servant shall not eat thereof.

⁴⁵仮ずまいの者と、雇人とは、これを食べてはならない。

⁴⁶In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth ought of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof.

⁴⁶ひとつの家でこれを食べなければならない。その肉を少しも家の外に持ち出してはならない。また、その骨を折ってはならない。

⁴⁷All the congregation of Israel shall keep it.

⁴⁷イスラエルの全会衆はこれを守らなければならない。

⁴⁸And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.

⁴⁸寄留の外国人があなたのもとにとどまっていて、主に過越の祭を守ろうとするときは、その男子はみな割礼を受けてのち、近づいてこれを守ることができる。そうすれば彼は国に生れた者のようになるであろう。しかし、無割礼の者はだれもこれを食べてはならない。

⁴⁹One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.

⁴⁹この律法は国に生れたものにも、あなたがたのうちに寄留している外国人にも同一である」。

⁵⁰Thus did all the children of Israel; as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.

⁵⁰イスラエルの人々は、みなこのようにし、主がモーセとアロンに命じられたようにした。ちょうどその日に、主はイスラエルの人々を、その軍団に従ってエジプトの国から導き出された。

⁵¹And it came to pass the selfsame day, that the LORD did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies.
