¹If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.

¹もし人が牛または羊を盗んで、これを殺し、あるいはこれを売るならば、彼は一頭の牛のために五頭の牛をもって、一頭の羊のために四頭の羊をもって償わなければならない。

²If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him.

²彼は必ず償わなければならない。もし彼に何もない時は、彼はその盗んだ物のために身を売られるであろう。

³If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; for he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

³もしその盗んだ物がなお生きて、彼の手もとにあれば、それは牛、ろば、羊のいずれにせよ、これを二倍にして償わなければならない。

⁴If the theft be certainly found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or ass, or sheep; he shall restore double.

⁴もし盗びとが穴をあけてはいるのを見て、これを撃って殺したときは、その人には血を流した罪はない。

⁵If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast, and shall feed in another man's field; of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard, shall he make restitution.

⁵しかし日がのぼって後ならば、その人に血を流した罪がある。

⁶If fire break out, and catch in thorns, so that the stacks of corn, or the standing corn, or the field, be consumed therewith; he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.

⁶もし人が畑またはぶどう畑のものを食わせ、その家畜を放って他人の畑のものを食わせた時は、自分の畑の最も良い物と、ぶどう畑の最も良い物をもって、これを償わなければならない。

⁷If a man shall deliver unto his neighbor money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief be found, let him pay double.

⁷もし火が出て、いばらに移り、積みあげた麦束、または立穂、または畑を焼いたならば、その火を燃やした者は、必ずこれを償わなければならない。

⁸If the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall be brought unto the judges, to see whether he have put his hand unto his neighbor's goods.

⁸もし人が金銭または物品の保管を隣人に託し、それが隣人の家から盗まれた時、その盗びとが見つけられたならば、これを二倍にして償わせなければならない。

⁹For all manner of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing which another challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; and whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbor.

⁹もし盗びとが見つけられなければ、家の主人を神の前に連れてきて、彼が隣人の持ち物に手をかけたかどうかを、確かめなければならない。

¹⁰If a man deliver unto his neighbor an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it:

¹⁰牛であれ、ろばであれ、羊であれ、衣服であれ、あるいはどんな失った物であれ、それについて言い争いが起り『これがそれです』と言う者があれば、その双方の言い分を、神の前に持ち出さなければならない。そして神が有罪と定められる者は、それを二倍にしてその相手に償わなければならない。

¹¹Then shall an oath of the LORD be between them both, that he hath not put his hand unto his neighbor's goods; and the owner of it shall accept thereof, and he shall not make it good.

¹¹もし人が、ろば、または牛、または羊、またはどんな家畜でも、それを隣人に預けて、それが死ぬか、傷つくか、あるいは奪い去られても、それを見た者がなければ、

¹²And if it be stolen from him, he shall make restitution unto the owner thereof.

¹²双方の間に、隣人の持ち物に手をかけなかったという誓いが、主の前になされなければならない。そうすれば、持ち主はこれを受け入れ、隣人は償うに及ばない。

¹³If it be torn in pieces, then let him bring it for witness, and he shall not make good that which was torn.

¹³けれども、それがまさしく自分の所から盗まれた時は、その持ち主に償わなければならない。

¹⁴And if a man borrow ought of his neighbor, and it be hurt, or die, the owner thereof being not with it, he shall surely make it good.

¹⁴もしそれが裂き殺された時は、それを証拠として持って来るならば、その裂き殺されたものは償うに及ばない。

¹⁵But if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good: if it be an hired thing, it came for his hire.

¹⁵もし人が隣人から家畜を借りて、それが傷つき、または死ぬ場合、その持ち主がそれと共にいない時は、必ずこれを償わなければならない。

¹⁶And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.

¹⁶もしその持ち主がそれと共におれば、それを償うに及ばない。もしそれが賃借りしたものならば、その借賃をそれに当てなければならない。

¹⁷If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

¹⁷もし人がまだ婚約しない処女を誘って、これと寝たならば、彼は必ずこれに花嫁料を払って、妻としなければならない。

¹⁸Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

¹⁸もしその父がこれをその人に与えることをかたく拒むならば、彼は処女の花嫁料に当るほどの金を払わなければならない。

¹⁹Whosoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death.

¹⁹魔法使の女は、これを生かしておいてはならない。

²⁰He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed.

²⁰すべて獣を犯す者は、必ず殺されなければならない。

²¹Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

²¹主のほか、他の神々に犠牲をささげる者は、断ち滅ぼされなければならない。

²²Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.

²²あなたは寄留の他国人を苦しめてはならない。また、これをしえたげてはならない。あなたがたも、かつてエジプトの国で、寄留の他国人であったからである。

²³If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry;

²³あなたがたはすべて寡婦、または孤児を悩ましてはならない。

²⁴And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

²⁴もしあなたが彼らを悩まして、彼らがわたしにむかって叫ぶならば、わたしは必ずその叫びを聞くであろう。

²⁵If thou lend money to any of my people that is poor by thee, thou shalt not be to him as an usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury.

²⁵そしてわたしの怒りは燃えたち、つるぎをもってあなたがたを殺すであろう。あなたがたの妻は寡婦となり、あなたがたの子供たちは孤児となるであろう。

²⁶If thou at all take thy neighbor's raiment to pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him by that the sun goeth down:

²⁶あなたが、共におるわたしの民の貧しい者に金を貸す時は、これに対して金貸しのようになってはならない。これから利子を取ってはならない。

²⁷For that is his covering only, it is his raiment for his skin: wherein shall he sleep? and it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.

²⁷もし隣人の上着を質に取るならば、日の入るまでにそれを返さなければならない。

²⁸Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people.

²⁸これは彼の身をおおう、ただ一つの物、彼の膚のための着物だからである。彼は何を着て寝ることができよう。彼がわたしにむかって叫ぶならば、わたしはこれに聞くであろう。わたしはあわれみ深いからである。

²⁹Thou shalt not delay to offer the first of thy ripe fruits, and of thy liquors: the firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto me.

²⁹あなたは神をののしってはならない。また民の司をのろってはならない。

³⁰Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen, and with thy sheep: seven days it shall be with his dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me.

³⁰あなたの豊かな穀物と、あふれる酒とをささげるに、ためらってはならない。あなたのういごを、わたしにささげなければならない。

³¹And ye shall be holy men unto me: neither shall ye eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the field; ye shall cast it to the dogs.

³¹あなたはまた、あなたの牛と羊をも同様にしなければならない。七日の間その母と共に置いて、八日目にそれをわたしに、ささげなければならない。あなたがたは、わたしに対して聖なる民とならなければならない。あなたがたは、野で裂き殺されたものの肉を食べてはならない。それは犬に投げ与えなければならない。
