1Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
1自由を得させるために、キリストはわたしたちを解放して下さったのである。だから、堅く立って、二度と奴隷のくびきにつながれてはならない。
2Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
2見よ、このパウロがあなたがたに言う。もし割礼を受けるなら、キリストはあなたがたに用のないものになろう。
3For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
3割礼を受けようとするすべての人たちに、もう一度言っておく。そういう人たちは、律法の全部を行う義務がある。
4Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
4律法によって義とされようとするあなたがたは、キリストから離れてしまっている。恵みから落ちている。
5For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
5わたしたちは、御霊の助けにより、信仰によって義とされる望みを強くいだいている。
6For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.
6キリスト・イエスにあっては、割礼があってもなくても、問題ではない。尊いのは、愛によって働く信仰だけである。
7Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?
7あなたがたはよく走り続けてきたのに、だれが邪魔をして、真理にそむかせたのか。
8This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.
8そのような勧誘は、あなたがたを召されたかたから出たものではない。
9A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
9少しのパン種でも、粉のかたまり全体をふくらませる。
10I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.
10あなたがたはいささかもわたしと違った思いをいだくことはないと、主にあって信頼している。しかし、あなたがたを動揺させている者は、それがだれであろうと、さばきを受けるであろう。
11And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased.
11兄弟たちよ。わたしがもし今でも割礼を宣べ伝えていたら、どうして、いまなお迫害されるはずがあろうか。そうしていたら、十字架のつまずきは、なくなっているであろう。
12I would they were even cut off which trouble you.
12あなたがたの煽動者どもは、自ら不具になるがよかろう。
13For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
13兄弟たちよ。あなたがたが召されたのは、実に、自由を得るためである。ただ、その自由を、肉の働く機会としないで、愛をもって互に仕えなさい。
14For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
14律法の全体は、「自分を愛するように、あなたの隣り人を愛せよ」というこの一句に尽きるからである。
15But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.
15気をつけるがよい。もし互にかみ合い、食い合っているなら、あなたがたは互に滅ぼされてしまうだろう。
16This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
16わたしは命じる、御霊によって歩きなさい。そうすれば、決して肉の欲を満たすことはない。
17For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
17なぜなら、肉の欲するところは御霊に反し、また御霊の欲するところは肉に反するからである。こうして、二つのものは互に相さからい、その結果、あなたがたは自分でしようと思うことを、することができないようになる。
18But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
18もしあなたがたが御霊に導かれるなら、律法の下にはいない。
19Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
19肉の働きは明白である。すなわち、不品行、汚れ、好色、
20Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
20偶像礼拝、まじない、敵意、争い、そねみ、怒り、党派心、分裂、分派、
21Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
21ねたみ、泥酔、宴楽、および、そのたぐいである。わたしは以前も言ったように、今も前もって言っておく。このようなことを行う者は、神の国をつぐことがない。
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
22しかし、御霊の実は、愛、喜び、平和、寛容、慈愛、善意、忠実、
23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
23柔和、自制であって、これらを否定する律法はない。
24And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
24キリスト・イエスに属する者は、自分の肉を、その情と欲と共に十字架につけてしまったのである。
25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
25もしわたしたちが御霊によって生きるのなら、また御霊によって進もうではないか。互にいどみ合い、互にねたみ合って、虚栄に生きてはならない。
26Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
26互にいどみ合い、互にねたみ合って、虚栄に生きてはならない。
