¹My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are ready for me.

¹わが霊は破れ、わが日は尽き、墓はわたしを待っている。

²Are there not mockers with me? and doth not mine eye continue in their provocation?

²まことにあざける者どもはわたしのまわりにあり、わが目は常に彼らの侮りを見る。

³Lay down now, put me in a surety with thee; who is he that will strike hands with me?

³どうか、あなた自ら保証となられるように。ほかにだれがわたしのために保証となってくれる者があろうか。

⁴For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt them.

⁴あなたは彼らの心を閉じて、悟ることのないようにされた。それゆえ、彼らに勝利を得させられるはずはない。

⁵He that speaketh flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.

⁵分け前を得るために友を訴えるものは、その子らの目がつぶれるであろう。

⁶He hath made me also a byword of the people; and aforetime I was as a tabret.

⁶彼はわたしを民の笑い草とされた。わたしは顔につばきされる者となる。

⁷Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, and all my members are as a shadow.

⁷わが目は憂いによってかすみ、わがからだはすべて影のようだ。

⁸Upright men shall be astonied at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite.

⁸正しい者はこれに驚き、罪なき者は神を信ぜぬ者に対して憤る。

⁹The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.

⁹それでもなお正しい者はその道を堅く保ち、潔い手をもつ者はますます力を得る。

¹⁰But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.

¹⁰しかし、あなたがたは皆再び来るがよい、わたしはあなたがたのうちに賢い者を見ないのだ。

¹¹My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.

¹²They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.

¹⁴穴に向かって『あなたはわたしの父である』と言い、うじに向かって『あなたはわたしの母、わたしの姉妹である』と言うならば、

¹⁵And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?

¹⁵わたしの望みはどこにあるか、だれがわたしの望みを見ることができようか。これは下って陰府の関門にいたり、われわれは共にちりに下るであろうか」。

¹⁶They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.
