¹These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

¹わたしがこれらのことを語ったのは、あなたがたがつまずくことのないためである。

²They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

²人々はあなたがたを会堂から追い出すであろう。更にあなたがたを殺す者がみな、それによって自分たちは神に仕えているのだと思う時が来るであろう。

³And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

³彼らがそのようなことをするのは、父をもわたしをも知らないからである。

⁴But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.

⁴わたしがあなたがたにこれらのことを言ったのは、彼らの時がきた場合、わたしが彼らについて言ったことを、思い起させるためである。これらのことを初めから言わなかったのは、わたしがあなたがたと一緒にいたからである。

⁵But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

⁵けれども今わたしは、わたしをつかわされたかたのところに行こうとしている。しかし、あなたがたのうち、だれも『どこへ行くのか』と尋ねる者はない。

⁶But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

⁶かえって、わたしがこれらのことを言ったために、あなたがたの心は憂いで満たされている。

⁷Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

⁷しかし、わたしはほんとうのことをあなたがたに言うが、わたしが去って行くことは、あなたがたの益になるのだ。わたしが去って行かなければ、あなたがたのところに助け主はこないであろう。もし行けば、それをあなたがたにつかわそう。

⁸And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

⁸それがきたら、罪と義とさばきとについて、世の人の目を開くであろう。

⁹Of sin, because they believe not on me;

⁹罪についてと言ったのは、彼らがわたしを信じないからである。

¹⁰Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

¹⁰義についてと言ったのは、わたしが父のみもとに行き、あなたがたは、もはやわたしを見なくなるからである。

¹¹Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

¹¹さばきについてと言ったのは、この世の君がさばかれるからである。

¹²I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

¹²わたしには、あなたがたに言うべきことがまだ多くあるが、あなたがたは今はそれに堪えられない。

¹³Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

¹³けれども真理の御霊が来る時には、あなたがたをあらゆる真理に導いてくれるであろう。それは自分から語るのではなく、その聞くところを語り、きたるべき事をあなたがたに知らせるであろう。

¹⁴He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

¹⁴御霊はわたしに栄光を得させるであろう。わたしのものを受けて、それをあなたがたに知らせるからである。

¹⁵All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

¹⁵父がお持ちになっているものはみな、わたしのものである。御霊はわたしのものを受けて、それをあなたがたに知らせるのだと、わたしが言ったのは、そのためである。

¹⁶A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

¹⁶しばらくすれば、あなたがたはもうわたしを見なくなる。しかし、またしばらくすれば、わたしに会えるであろう」。

¹⁷Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?

¹⁷そこで、弟子たちのうちのある者は互に言い合った、「『しばらくすれば、わたしを見なくなる。またしばらくすれば、わたしに会えるであろう』と言われ、『わたしの父のところに行く』と言われたのは、いったい、どういうことなのであろう」。

¹⁸They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.

¹⁸彼らはまた言った、「『しばらくすれば』と言われるのは、どういうことか。わたしたちには、その言葉の意味がわからない」。

¹⁹Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?

¹⁹イエスは、彼らが尋ねたがっていることに気がついて、彼らに言われた、「しばらくすればわたしを見なくなる、またしばらくすればわたしに会えるであろうと、わたしが言ったことで、互に論じ合っているのか。

²⁰Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

²⁰よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。あなたがたは泣き悲しむが、この世は喜ぶであろう。あなたがたは憂えているが、その憂いは喜びに変るであろう。

²¹A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

²¹女が子を産む場合には、その時がきたというので、不安を感じる。しかし、子を産んでしまえば、もはやその苦しみをおぼえてはいない。ひとりの人がこの世に生れた、という喜びがあるためである。

²²And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

²²このように、あなたがたにも今は不安がある。しかし、わたしは再びあなたがたと会うであろう。そして、あなたがたの心は喜びに満たされるであろう。その喜びをあなたがたから取り去る者はいない。

²³And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

²³その日には、あなたがたがわたしに問うことは、何もないであろう。よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。あなたがたが父に求めるものはなんでも、わたしの名によって下さるであろう。

²⁴Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

²⁴今までは、あなたがたはわたしの名によって求めたことはなかった。求めなさい、そうすれば、与えられるであろう。そして、あなたがたの喜びが満ちあふれるであろう。

²⁵These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.

²⁵わたしはこれらのことを比喩で話したが、もはや比喩では話さないで、あからさまに、父のことをあなたがたに話してきかせる時が来るであろう。

²⁶At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:

²⁶その日には、あなたがたは、わたしの名によって求めるであろう。わたしは、あなたがたのために父に願ってあげようとは言うまい。

²⁷For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

²⁷父ご自身があなたがたを愛しておいでになるからである。それは、あなたがたがわたしを愛したため、また、わたしが神のみもとからきたことを信じたためである。

²⁸I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

²⁸わたしは父から出てこの世にきたが、またこの世を去って、父のみもとに行くのである」。

²⁹His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.

²⁹弟子たちは言った、「今はあからさまにお話しになって、少しも比喩ではお話しになりません。

³⁰Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

³⁰あなたはすべてのことをご存じであり、だれもあなたにお尋ねする必要のないことが、今わかりました。このことによって、わたしたちはあなたが神からこられたかたであると信じます」。

³¹Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?

³¹イエスは答えられた、「あなたがたは今信じているのか。

³²Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

³²見よ、あなたがたは散らされて、それぞれ自分の家に帰り、わたしをひとりだけ残す時が来るであろう。いや、すでにきている。しかし、わたしはひとりでいるのではない。父がわたしと一緒におられるのである。これらのことをあなたがたに話したのは、わたしにあって平安を得るためである。あなたがたは、この世ではなやみがある。しかし、勇気を出しなさい。わたしはすでに世に勝っている」。

³³These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

³³これらのことをあなたがたに話したのは、わたしにあって平安を得るためである。あなたがたは、この世ではなやみがある。しかし、勇気を出しなさい。わたしはすでに世に勝っている」。
