¹Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem.

¹さて、パリサイ人と、ある律法学者たちとが、エルサレムからきて、イエスのもとに集まった。

²And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.

²そして弟子たちのうちに、不浄な手、すなわち洗わない手で、パンを食べている者があるのを見た。

³For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.

³もともと、パリサイ人をはじめユダヤ人はみな、昔の人の言伝えをかたく守って、念入りに手を洗ってからでないと、食事をしない。

⁴And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.

⁴また市場から帰ったときには、身を清めてからでないと、食事をせず、なおそのほかにも、杯、鉢、銅器を洗うことなど、昔から受けついでかたく守っている事が、たくさんあった。

⁵Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

⁵そこで、パリサイ人と律法学者たちとは、イエスに尋ねた、「なぜ、あなたの弟子たちは、昔の人の言伝えに従って歩まないで、不浄な手でパンを食べるのですか」。

⁶He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

⁶イエスは言われた、「イザヤは、あなたがた偽善者について、こう書いているが、それは適切な預言である、『この民は、口さきではわたしを敬うが、その心はわたしから遠く離れている。

⁷Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

⁷人間のいましめを教として教え、無意味にわたしを拝んでいる』。

⁸For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

⁸あなたがたは、神のいましめをさしおいて、人間の言伝えを固執している」。

⁹And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

⁹また、言われた、「あなたがたは、自分たちの言伝えを守るために、よくも神のいましめを捨てたものだ。

¹⁰For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:

¹⁰モーセは言ったではないか、『父と母とを敬え』、また『父または母をののしる者は、必ず死に定められる』と。

¹¹But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.

¹¹それだのに、あなたがたは、もし人が父または母にむかって、あなたに差上げるはずのこのものはコルバン、すなわち、供え物ですと言えば、それでよいとして、

¹²And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;

¹²その人は父母に対して、もう何もしないで済むのだと言っている。

¹³Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

¹³こうしてあなたがたは、自分たちが受けついだ言伝えによって、神の言を無にしている。また、このような事をしばしばおこなっている」。

¹⁴And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:

¹⁴それから、イエスは再び群衆を呼び寄せて言われた、「あなたがたはみんな、わたしの言うことを聞いて悟るがよい。

¹⁵There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.

¹⁵すべて外から人の中にはいって、人をけがしうるものはない。かえって、人の中から出てくるものが、人をけがすのである。〔

¹⁶If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

¹⁶聞く耳のある者は聞くがよい〕」。

¹⁷And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.

¹⁷イエスが群衆を離れて家にはいられると、弟子たちはこの譬について尋ねた。

¹⁸And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;

¹⁸すると、言われた、「あなたがたも、そんなに鈍いのか。すべて、外から人の中にはいって来るものは、人を汚し得ないことが、わからないのか。

¹⁹Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?

¹⁹それは人の心の中にはいるのではなく、腹の中にはいり、そして、外に出て行くだけである」。イエスはこのように、どんな食物でもきよいものとされた。

²⁰And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.

²⁰さらに言われた、「人から出て来るもの、それが人をけがすのである。

²¹For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

²¹すなわち内部から、人の心の中から、悪い思いが出て来る。不品行、盗み、殺人、

²²Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

²²姦淫、貪欲、邪悪、欺き、好色、妬み、誹り、高慢、愚痴。

²³All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

²³これらの悪はすべて内部から出てきて、人をけがすのである」。

²⁴And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid.

²⁴さて、イエスは、そこを立ち去って、ツロの地方に行かれた。そして、だれにも知れないように、家の中にはいられたが、隠れていることができなかった。

²⁵For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:

²⁵そして、けがれた霊につかれた幼い娘をもつ女が、イエスのことをすぐ聞きつけてきて、その足もとにひれ伏した。

²⁶The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.

²⁶この女はギリシヤ人で、スロ・フェニキヤの生れであった。そして、娘から悪霊を追い出してくださいとお願いした。

²⁷But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.

²⁷イエスは女に言われた、「まず子供たちに十分食べさすべきである。子供たちのパンを取って小犬に投げてやるのは、よろしくない」。

²⁸And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.

²⁸すると、女は答えて言った、「主よ、お言葉どおりです。でも、食卓の下にいる小犬も、子供たちのパンくずは、いただきます」。

²⁹And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.

²⁹そこでイエスは言われた、「その言葉で、じゅうぶんである。お帰りなさい。悪霊は娘から出てしまった」。

³⁰And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.

³⁰そこで、女が家に帰ってみると、その子は床の上に寝ており、悪霊は出てしまっていた。

³¹And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.

³¹それから、イエスはまたツロの地方を去り、シドンを経てデカポリス地方を通りぬけ、ガリラヤの海べにこられた。

³²And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.

³²すると人々は、耳が聞えず口のきけない人を、みもとに連れてきて、手を置いてやっていただきたいとお願いした。

³³And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;

³³そこで、イエスは彼ひとりを群衆の中から連れ出し、その両耳に指をさし入れ、それから、つばきでその舌を潤し、

³⁴And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.

³⁴天を仰いでため息をつき、その人に「エパタ」と言われた。これは「開けよ」という意味である。

³⁵And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.

³⁵すると彼の耳が開け、その舌のもつれもすぐ解けて、はっきりと話すようになった。

³⁶And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;

³⁶イエスは、この事をだれにも言ってはならぬと、人々に口止めをされたが、口止めをすればするほど、かえって、ますます言いひろめた。彼らは、ひとかたならず驚いて言った、「このかたのなさった事は、何もかも、すばらしい。耳の聞えない者を聞えるようにしてやり、口のきけない者をきけるようにしておやりになった」。

³⁷And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

³⁷彼らは、ひとかたならず驚いて言った、「このかたのなさった事は、何もかも、すばらしい。耳の聞えない者を聞えるようにしてやり、口のきけない者をきけるようにしておやりになった」。
