¹And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

¹また、彼らに言われた、「よく聞いておくがよい。神の国が力をもって来るのを見るまでは、決して死を味わわない者が、ここに立っている者の中にいる」。

²And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.

²六日の後、イエスは、ただペテロ、ヤコブ、ヨハネだけを連れて、高い山に登られた。ところが、彼らの目の前でイエスの姿が変り、

³And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.

³その衣は真白く輝き、どんな布さらしでも、それほどに白くすることはできないくらいになった。

⁴And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.

⁴すると、エリヤがモーセと共に彼らに現れて、イエスと語り合っていた。

⁵And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

⁵ペテロはイエスにむかって言った、「先生、わたしたちがここにいるのは、すばらしいことです。それで、わたしたちは小屋を三つ建てましょう。一つはあなたのために、一つはモーセのために、一つはエリヤのために」。

⁶For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.

⁶そう言ったのは、みんなの者が非常に恐れていたので、ペテロは何を言ってよいか、わからなかったからである。

⁷And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

⁷すると、雲がわき起って彼らをおおった。そして、その雲の中から声があった、「これはわたしの愛する子である。これに聞け」。

⁸And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.

⁸彼らは急いで見まわしたが、もはやだれも見えず、ただイエスだけが、自分たちと一緒におられた。

⁹And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.

⁹一同が山を下って来るとき、イエスは「人の子が死人の中からよみがえるまでは、いま見たことをだれにも話してはならない」と、彼らに命じられた。

¹⁰And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.

¹⁰彼らはこの言葉を心にとめ、死人の中からよみがえるとはどういうことかと、互に論じ合った。

¹¹And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?

¹¹そしてイエスに尋ねた、「なぜ、律法学者たちは、エリヤが先に来るはずだと言っているのですか」。

¹²And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

¹²イエスは言われた、「確かに、エリヤが先にきて、万事を元どおりに改める。しかし、人の子について、彼が多くの苦しみを受け、かつ恥ずかしめられると、書いてあるのはなぜか。

¹³But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.

¹³しかしあなたがたに言っておく、エリヤはすでにきたのだ。そして彼について書いてあるように、人々は自分かってに彼をあしらった」。

¹⁴And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.

¹⁴さて、彼らがほかの弟子たちの所にきて見ると、大ぜいの群衆が弟子たちを取り囲み、そして律法学者たちが彼らと論じ合っていた。

¹⁵And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.

¹⁵群衆はみな、すぐイエスを見つけて、非常に驚き、駆け寄ってきて、あいさつをした。

¹⁶And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?

¹⁶イエスが彼らに、「あなたがたは彼らと何を論じているのか」と尋ねられると、

¹⁷And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;

¹⁷群衆のひとりが答えた、「先生、おしの霊につかれているわたしのむすこを、こちらに連れて参りました。

¹⁸And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.

¹⁸霊がこのむすこにとりつきますと、どこででも彼を引き倒し、それから彼はあわを吹き、歯をくいしばり、からだをこわばらせてしまいます。それでお弟子たちに、この霊を追い出してくださるように願いましたが、できませんでした」。

¹⁹He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.

¹⁹イエスは答えて言われた、「ああ、なんという不信仰な時代であろう。いつまで、わたしはあなたがたと一緒におられようか。いつまで、あなたがたに我慢ができようか。その子をわたしの所に連れてきなさい」。

²⁰And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.

²⁰そこで人々は、その子をみもとに連れてきた。霊がイエスを見るや否や、その子をひきつけさせたので、子は地に倒れ、あわを吹きながらころげまわった。

²¹And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.

²¹そこで、イエスが父親に「いつごろから、こんなになったのか」と尋ねられると、父親は答えた、「幼い時からです。

²²And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.

²²霊はたびたび、この子を火の中、水の中に投げ入れて、殺そうとしました。しかしできますれば、わたしどもをあわれんでお助けください」。

²³Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

²³イエスは彼に言われた、「もしできれば、と言うのか。信ずる者には、どんな事でもできる」。

²⁴And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

²⁴その子の父親はすぐ叫んで言った、「信じます。不信仰なわたしを、お助けください」。

²⁵When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

²⁵イエスは群衆が駆け寄って来るのをごらんになって、けがれた霊をしかって言われた、「おしとつんぼの霊よ、わたしがおまえに命じる。この子から出て行け。二度と、はいって来るな」。

²⁶And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.

²⁶すると霊は叫び声をあげ、激しく引きつけさせて出て行った。その子は死人のようになったので、多くの人は、死んだのだと言った。

²⁷But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.

²⁷しかし、イエスが手を取って起されると、その子は立ち上がった。

²⁸And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?

²⁸家にはいられたとき、弟子たちはひそかにお尋ねした、「わたしたちは、どうして霊を追い出せなかったのですか」。

²⁹And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

²⁹すると、イエスは言われた、「このたぐいは、祈によらなければ、どうしても追い出すことはできない」。

³⁰And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.

³⁰それから彼らはそこを立ち去り、ガリラヤをとおって行ったが、イエスは人に気づかれるのを好まれなかった。

³¹For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.

³¹それは、イエスが弟子たちに教えて、「人の子は人々の手にわたされ、彼らに殺され、殺されてから三日の後によみがえるであろう」と言っておられたからである。

³²But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.

³²しかし、彼らはイエスの言われたことを悟らず、また尋ねるのを恐れていた。

³³And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?

³³それから彼らはカペナウムにきた。そして家におられるとき、イエスは弟子たちに尋ねられた、「あなたがたは途中で何を論じていたのか」。

³⁴But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.

³⁴彼らは黙っていた。それは途中で、だれが一ばん偉いかと、互に論じ合っていたからである。

³⁵And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.

³⁵そこで、イエスはすわって十二弟子を呼び、そして言われた、「だれでも一ばん先になろうと思うならば、一ばんあとになり、みんなに仕える者とならねばならない」。

³⁶And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,

³⁶そして、ひとりの幼な子をとりあげて、彼らのまん中に立たせ、それを抱いて言われた。

³⁷Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.

³⁷「だれでも、このような幼な子のひとりを、わたしの名のゆえに受けいれる者は、わたしを受けいれるのである。そして、わたしを受けいれる者は、わたしを受けいれるのではなく、わたしをおつかわしになったかたを受けいれるのである」。

³⁸And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.

³⁸ヨハネがイエスに言った、「先生、わたしたちについてこない者が、あなたの名を使って悪霊を追い出しているのを見ましたが、その人はわたしたちについてこなかったので、やめさせました」。

³⁹But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.

³⁹イエスは言われた、「やめさせないがよい。だれでもわたしの名で力あるわざを行いながら、すぐそのあとで、わたしをそしることはできない。

⁴⁰For he that is not against us is on our part.

⁴⁰わたしたちに反対しない者は、わたしたちの味方である。

⁴¹For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.

⁴¹だれでも、キリストについている者だというので、あなたがたに水一杯でも飲ませてくれるものは、よく言っておくが、決してその報いからもれることはないであろう。

⁴²And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.

⁴²また、わたしを信じるこれらの小さい者のひとりをつまずかせる者は、大きなひきうすを首にかけられて海に投げ込まれた方が、はるかによい。

⁴³And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

⁴³もし、あなたの片手が罪を犯させるなら、それを切り捨てなさい。両手がそろったままで地獄の消えない火の中に落ち込むよりは、かたわになって命に入る方がよい。〔

⁴⁴Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

⁴⁴地獄では、うじがつきず、火も消えることがない。〕

⁴⁵And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

⁴⁵もし、あなたの片足が罪を犯させるなら、それを切り捨てなさい。両足がそろったままで地獄に投げ入れられるよりは、片足で命に入る方がよい。〔

⁴⁶Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

⁴⁶地獄では、うじがつきず、火も消えることがない。〕

⁴⁷And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:

⁴⁷もし、あなたの片目が罪を犯させるなら、それを抜き出しなさい。両眼がそろったままで地獄に投げ入れられるよりは、片目になって神の国に入る方がよい。

⁴⁸Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

⁴⁸地獄では、うじがつきず、火も消えることがない。

⁴⁹For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

⁴⁹人はすべて火で塩づけられねばならない。塩はよいものである。しかし、もしその塩の味がぬけたら、何によってその味が取りもどされようか。あなたがた自身の内に塩を持ちなさい。そして、互に和らぎなさい」。

⁵⁰Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

⁵⁰塩はよいものである。しかし、もしその塩の味がぬけたら、何によってその味が取りもどされようか。あなたがた自身の内に塩を持ちなさい。そして、互に和らぎなさい」。
