¹And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;

¹イエスはこれらのことを語り終えられてから、ガリラヤを去ってヨルダンの向こうのユダヤの地方へ行かれた。

²And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.

²すると大ぜいの群衆がついてきたので、彼らをそこでおいやしになった。

³The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

³さてパリサイ人たちが近づいてきて、イエスを試みようとして言った、「何かの理由で、夫がその妻を出すのは、さしつかえないでしょうか」。

⁴And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

⁴イエスは答えて言われた、「あなたがたはまだ読んだことがないのか。『創造者は初めから人を男と女とに造られ、

⁵And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

⁵そして言われた、それゆえに、人は父母を離れ、その妻と結ばれ、ふたりの者は一体となるべきである』。

⁶Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

⁶彼らはもはや、ふたりではなく一体である。だから、神が合わせられたものを、人は離してはならない」。

⁷They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?

⁷彼らはイエスに言った、「それでは、なぜモーセは、妻を出す場合には離縁状を渡せ、と定めたのですか」。

⁸He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.

⁸イエスが言われた、「モーセはあなたがたの心が、かたくななので、妻を出すことを許したのだが、初めからそうではなかった。

⁹And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

⁹そこでわたしはあなたがたに言う。不品行のゆえでなくて、自分の妻を出して他の女をめとる者は、姦淫を行うのである」。

¹⁰His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.

¹⁰弟子たちは言った、「もし妻に対する夫の立場がそうだとすれば、結婚しない方がましです」。

¹¹But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.

¹¹するとイエスは彼らに言われた、「その言葉を受けいれることができるのはすべての人ではなく、ただそれを授けられている人々だけである。

¹²For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

¹²というのは、母の胎内から独身者に生れついているものがあり、また他から独身者にされたものもあり、また天国のために、みずから進んで独身者となったものもある。この言葉を受けられる者は、受けいれるがよい」。

¹³Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.

¹³そのとき、イエスに手をおいて祈っていただくために、人々が幼な子らをみもとに連れてきた。ところが、弟子たちは彼らをたしなめた。

¹⁴But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

¹⁴するとイエスは言われた、「幼な子らをそのままにしておきなさい。わたしのところに来るのをとめてはならない。天国はこのような者の国である」。

¹⁵And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.

¹⁵そして手を彼らの上においてから、そこを去って行かれた。

¹⁶And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

¹⁶すると、ひとりの人がイエスに近寄ってきて言った、「先生、永遠の生命を得るためには、どんなよいことをしたらいいでしょうか」。

¹⁷And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

¹⁷イエスは言われた、「なぜよい事についてわたしに尋ねるのか。よいかたはただひとりだけである。もし命に入りたいと思うなら、いましめを守りなさい」。

¹⁸He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

¹⁸彼は言った、「どのいましめですか」。イエスは言われた、「『殺すな、姦淫するな、盗むな、偽証を立てるな。

¹⁹Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

¹⁹父と母とを敬え』。また『自分を愛するように、あなたの隣り人を愛せよ』」。

²⁰The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?

²⁰この青年はイエスに言った、「それはみな守ってきました。ほかに何が足りないのでしょう」。

²¹Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

²¹イエスは彼に言われた、「もしあなたが完全になりたいと思うなら、帰ってあなたの持ち物を売り払い、貧しい人々に施しなさい。そうすれば、天に宝を持つようになろう。そして、わたしに従ってきなさい」。

²²But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

²²この言葉を聞いて、青年は悲しみながら立ち去った。たくさんの資産を持っていたからである。

²³Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

²³それからイエスは弟子たちに言われた、「よく聞きなさい。富んでいる者が天国にはいるのは、むずかしいものである。

²⁴And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

²⁴また、あなたがたに言うが、富んでいる者が神の国にはいるよりは、らくだが針の穴を通る方が、もっとやさしい」。

²⁵When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?

²⁵弟子たちはこれを聞いて非常に驚いて言った、「では、だれが救われることができるのだろう」。

²⁶But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

²⁶イエスは彼らを見つめて言われた、「人にはそれはできないが、神にはなんでもできない事はない」。

²⁷Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?

²⁷そのとき、ペテロがイエスに答えて言った、「ごらんなさい、わたしたちはいっさいを捨てて、あなたに従いました。ついては、何がいただけるでしょうか」。

²⁸And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

²⁸イエスは彼らに言われた、「よく聞いておくがよい。世が改まって、人の子がその栄光の座につく時には、わたしに従ってきたあなたがたもまた、十二の位に座してイスラエルの十二の部族をさばくであろう。

²⁹And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

²⁹おおよそ、わたしの名のために、家、兄弟、姉妹、父、母、子、もしくは畑を捨てた者は、その幾倍もを受け、また永遠の生命を受けつぐであろう。しかし、多くの先の者はあとになり、あとの者は先になるであろう。

³⁰But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.

³⁰しかし、多くの先の者はあとになり、あとの者は先になるであろう。
