1What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
1では、わたしたちは、なんと言おうか。恵みが増し加わるために、罪にとどまるべきであろうか。
2God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
2断じてそうではない。罪に対して死んだわたしたちが、どうして、なお、その中に生きておれるだろうか。
3Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
3それとも、あなたがたは知らないのか。キリスト・イエスにあずかるバプテスマを受けたわたしたちは、彼の死にあずかるバプテスマを受けたのである。
4Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
4すなわち、わたしたちは、その死にあずかるバプテスマによって、彼と共に葬られたのである。それは、キリストが父の栄光によって、死人の中からよみがえらされたように、わたしたちもまた、新しいいのちに生きるためである。
5For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
5もしわたしたちが、彼に結びついてその死の様にひとしくなるなら、さらに、彼の復活の様にもひとしくなるであろう。
6Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
6わたしたちは、この事を知っている。わたしたちの内の古き人はキリストと共に十字架につけられた。それは、この罪のからだが滅び、わたしたちがもはや、罪の奴隷となることがないためである。
7For he that is dead is freed from sin.
7それは、すでに死んだ者は、罪から解放されているからである。
8Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
8もしわたしたちが、キリストと共に死んだなら、また彼と共に生きることを信じる。
9Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
9キリストは死人の中からよみがえらされて、もはや死ぬことがなく、死はもはや彼を支配しないことを、知っているからである。
10For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
10なぜなら、キリストが死んだのは、ただ一度罪に対して死んだのであり、キリストが生きるのは、神に生きるのだからである。
11Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
11このように、あなたがた自身も、罪に対して死んだ者であり、キリスト・イエスにあって神に生きている者であることを、認むべきである。
12Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
12だから、あなたがたの死ぬべきからだを罪の支配にゆだねて、その情欲に従わせることをせず、
13Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
13また、あなたがたの肢体を不義の武器として罪にささげてはならない。むしろ、死人の中から生かされた者として、自分自身を神にささげ、自分の肢体を義の武器として神にささげるがよい。
14For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
14なぜなら、あなたがたは律法の下にあるのではなく、恵みの下にあるので、罪に支配されることはないからである。
15What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
15それでは、どうなのか。律法の下にではなく、恵みの下にあるからといって、わたしたちは罪を犯すべきであろうか。断じてそうではない。
16Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
16あなたがたは知らないのか。あなたがた自身が、だれかの僕になって服従するなら、あなたがたは自分の服従するその者の僕であって、死に至る罪の僕ともなり、あるいは、義にいたる従順の僕ともなるのである。
17But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
17しかし、神は感謝すべきかな。あなたがたは罪の僕であったが、伝えられた教の基準に心から服従して、
18Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
18罪から解放され、義の僕となった。
19I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
19わたしは人間的な言い方をするが、それは、あなたがたの肉の弱さのゆえである。あなたがたは、かつて自分の肢体を汚れと不法との僕としてささげて不法に陥ったように、今や自分の肢体を義の僕としてささげて、きよくならねばならない。
20For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
20あなたがたが罪の僕であった時は、義とは縁のない者であった。
21What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
21その時あなたがたは、どんな実を結んだのか。それは、今では恥とするようなものであった。それらのものの終極は、死である。
22But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
22しかし今や、あなたがたは罪から解放されて神に仕え、きよきに至る実を結んでいる。その終極は永遠のいのちである。罪の支払う報酬は死である。しかし神の賜物は、わたしたちの主キリスト・イエスにおける永遠のいのちである。
23For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
