¹There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

¹こういうわけで、今やキリスト・イエスにある者は罪に定められることがない。

²For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

²なぜなら、キリスト・イエスにあるいのちの御霊の法則は、罪と死との法則からあなたを解放したからである。

³For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

³律法が肉により無力になっているためになし得なかった事を、神はなし遂げて下さった。すなわち、御子を、罪の肉の様で罪のためにつかわし、肉において罪を罰せられたのである。

⁴That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

⁴これは律法の要求が、肉によらず霊によって歩くわたしたちにおいて、満たされるためである。

⁵For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

⁵なぜなら、肉に従う者は肉のことを思い、霊に従う者は霊のことを思うからである。

⁶For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

⁶肉の思いは死であるが、霊の思いは、いのちと平安とである。

⁷Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

⁷なぜなら、肉の思いは神に敵するからである。すなわち、それは神の律法に従わず、否、従い得ないのである。

⁸So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

⁸また、肉にある者は、神を喜ばせることができない。

⁹But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

⁹しかし、神の御霊があなたがたの内に宿っているなら、あなたがたは肉におるのではなく、霊におるのである。もし、キリストの霊を持たない人がいるなら、その人はキリストのものではない。

¹⁰And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

¹⁰もし、キリストがあなたがたの内におられるなら、からだは罪のゆえに死んでいても、霊は義のゆえに生きているのである。

¹¹But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

¹¹もし、イエスを死人の中からよみがえらせたかたの御霊が、あなたがたの内に宿っているなら、キリスト・イエスを死人の中からよみがえらせたかたは、あなたがたの内に宿っている御霊によって、あなたがたの死ぬべきからだをも、生かしてくださるであろう。

¹²Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

¹²それゆえに、兄弟たちよ。わたしたちは、果すべき責任を負っている者であるが、肉に従って生きる責任を肉に対して負っているのではない。

¹³For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

¹³なぜなら、もし、肉に従って生きるなら、あなたがたは死ぬ外はないからである。しかし、霊によってからだの働きを殺すなら、あなたがたは生きるであろう。

¹⁴For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

¹⁴すべて神の御霊に導かれている者は、すなわち、神の子である。

¹⁵For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

¹⁵あなたがたは再び恐れをいだかせる奴隷の霊を受けたのではなく、子たる身分を授ける霊を受けたのである。その霊によって、わたしたちは「アバ、父よ」と呼ぶのである。

¹⁶The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

¹⁶御霊みずから、わたしたちの霊と共に、わたしたちが神の子であることをあかしして下さる。

¹⁷And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

¹⁷もし子であれば、相続人でもある。神の相続人であって、キリストと栄光を共にするために苦難をも共にしている以上、キリストと共同の相続人なのである。

¹⁸For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

¹⁸わたしは思う。今のこの時の苦しみは、やがてわたしたちに現されようとする栄光に比べると、言うに足りない。

¹⁹For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

¹⁹被造物は、実に、切なる思いで神の子たちの出現を待ち望んでいる。

²⁰For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,

²⁰なぜなら、被造物が虚無に服したのは、自分の意志によるのではなく、服従させたかたによるのであり、

²¹Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

²¹かつ、被造物自身にも、滅びのなわめから解放されて、神の子たちの栄光の自由に入る望みが残されているからである。

²²For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

²²実に、被造物全体が、今に至るまで、共にうめき共に産みの苦しみを続けていることを、わたしたちは知っている。

²³And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

²³それだけではなく、御霊の最初の実を持っているわたしたち自身も、心の内でうめきながら、子たる身分を授けられること、すなわち、からだのあがなわれることを待ち望んでいる。

²⁴For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

²⁴わたしたちは、この望みによって救われているのである。しかし、目に見える望みは望みではない。なぜなら、現に見ている事を、どうして、なお望む人があろうか。

²⁵But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

²⁵もし、わたしたちが見ないことを望むなら、わたしたちは忍耐して、それを待ち望むのである。

²⁶Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

²⁶御霊もまた同じように、弱いわたしたちを助けて下さる。なぜなら、わたしたちはどう祈ったらよいかわからないが、御霊みずから、言葉にあらわせない切なるうめきをもって、わたしたちのためにとりなして下さるからである。

²⁷And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

²⁷そして、人の心を探り知るかたは、御霊の思うところがなんであるかを知っておられる。なぜなら、御霊は、聖徒のために、神の御旨にかなうとりなしをして下さるからである。

²⁸And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

²⁸神は、神を愛する者たち、すなわち、ご計画に従って召された者たちと共に働いて、万事を益となるようにして下さることを、わたしたちは知っている。

²⁹For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

²⁹神はあらかじめ知っておられる者たちを、更に御子のかたちに似たものとしようとして、あらかじめ定めて下さった。それは、御子を多くの兄弟の中で長子とならせるためであった。

³⁰Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

³⁰そして、あらかじめ定めた者たちを更に召し、召した者たちを更に義とし、義とした者たちには、更に栄光を与えて下さったのである。

³¹What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

³¹それでは、これらの事について、なんと言おうか。もし、神がわたしたちの味方であるなら、だれがわたしたちに敵し得ようか。

³²He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

³²ご自身の御子をさえ惜しまないで、わたしたちすべての者のために死に渡されたかたが、どうして、御子のみならず万物をも賜わらないことがあろうか。

³³Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

³³だれが、神の選ばれた者たちを訴えるのか。神は彼らを義とされるのである。

³⁴Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

³⁴だれが、わたしたちを罪に定めるのか。キリスト・イエスは、死んで、否、よみがえって、神の右に座し、また、わたしたちのためにとりなして下さるのである。

³⁵Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

³⁵だれが、キリストの愛からわたしたちを離れさせるのか。患難か、苦悩か、迫害か、飢えか、裸か、危難か、剣か。

³⁶As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

³⁶「わたしたちはあなたのために終日、死に定められており、ほふられる羊のように見られている」と書いてあるとおりである。

³⁷Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

³⁷しかし、わたしたちを愛して下さったかたによって、わたしたちは、これらすべての事において勝ち得て余りがある。

³⁸For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

³⁸わたしは確信する。死も生も、天使も支配者も、現在のものも将来のものも、力あるものも、高いものも深いものも、その他どんな被造物も、わたしたちの主キリスト・イエスにおける神の愛から、わたしたちを引き離すことはできないのである。

³⁹Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

³⁹高いものも深いものも、その他どんな被造物も、わたしたちの主キリスト・イエスにおける神の愛から、わたしたちを引き離すことはできないのである。
