¹The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the dearth.

²Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish; they are black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.

³And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.

³Eb li cuanqueb xcuanquil nequeßxtakla lix môseb chixsicßbal li haß. Nequeßxic cuan cuiß lix julel li haß abanan incßaß nequeßxtau li haß xban nak chaki. Mâcßaß xsaß lix cuqueb nak nequeßsukßi li môs. Yôqueb chi cßoxlac ut nequeßxtzßap li ru xban xxutâneb.

⁴Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads.

⁴Xelajeßitzßeß li chßochß xban nak incßaß chic naxqßue li hab. Ut eb laj acuinel sachsôqueb xchßôl ut nequeßxmuk li ru riqßuin li rukßeb.

⁵Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass.

⁵Ut li quej naxcanab xjunes li chßina ral xban nak mâcßaß chic li pachßayaß.

⁶And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.

⁶Eb li bûr li cuanqueb saß qßuicheß nequeßxakli saß xbên li bol chixcßulbal li ikß joß nequeßxbânu laj xoj. Moymoy chic saß ruheb xban nak mâcßaß chic richajeb.—

⁷O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name's sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee.

⁷Eb li tenamit nequeßxye: —Usta yâl nak cuan kamâc ut aßan li najitoc ke, abanan choâtenkßa, at Kâcuaß, saß xcßabaß lâ rahom. Nabal sut xatkatzßektâna ut xomâcob châcuu.

⁸O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?

⁸At Kâcuaß, lâat li kayoßon lâo aj Israel. Lâat li nacatcoloc ke chiru li raylal. ¿Cßaßut nak chanchanat jun li jalan xtenamit? ¿Cßaßut nak chanchanat jun li yal numecß yô?

⁹Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.

¹⁰Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.

Cuan saß inchßôl li mâusilal li nequeßxbânu. Joßcan nak lâin tinqßueheb chixtojbal lix mâqueb, chan li Dios.

¹¹Then said the LORD unto me, Pray not for this people for their good.

¹¹Li Kâcuaß quixye cue: —At Jeremías, mâtzßâma chicuu nak tinbânu usilal reheb li tenamit aßin.

¹²When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.

¹²Usta nequeßxbânu lix ayûn, lâin incßaß tinsumeheb nak teßxyâba lin cßabaß. Usta nequeßxmayeja li ru li racuîmkeb ut nequeßxcßat li xul chokß xmayejeb chicuu, lâin incßaß tincßul. Tinqßueheb ban chi camsîc saß li plêt, malaj ut teßcâmk xban cueßej ut xban caki yajel, chan li Dios.

¹³Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.

¹³Ut laj Jeremías quixye: —At nimajcual Dios, lâat nacanau nak eb li profetas yôqueb chixyebal reheb li tenamit nak incßaß tâcuânk li plêt chi moco tâcuânk li cueßej. Yôqueb chixyebal nak tâqßue reheb li tuktûquil usilal, chan.

¹⁴Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

¹⁴Ut li Kâcuaß quixye: —Li cßaßru yôqueb chixyebal li profetas ticßtiß. Nequeßxye nak yôqueb chi âtinac saß incßabaß. Lâin incßaß xebintakla, ut incßaß xinxakabeb chi moco xinâtinac riqßuineb. Lâin incßaß xincßut visión chiruheb. Ticßtißic ut balakßic nequeßxbânu. Yôqueb chixyebal li cßaßru nequeßrecßa xjuneseb.

¹⁵Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.

¹⁶And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.

¹⁶Ut eb li tenamit li yôqueb chi abînc re li cßaßru nequeßxye li profeta aßin, teßcutekß saß eb li be re Jerusalén xban li plêt ut xban cueßej. Ut mâ ani târûk tâmukuk reheb. Incßaß teßmukekß li rixakileb chi moco li ralal xcßajoleb. Lâin tintakla li raylal saß xbêneb joß xcßulubeb xcßulbal.

¹⁷Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.

¹⁷At Jeremías, tâye reheb li tenamit chi joßcaßin, “Chi kßek chi cutan tinyâbak chirixeb lin tenamit xban nak kßaxal ra cuanqueb. Incßaß tincanab yâbac xban nak rahobtesinbileb.

¹⁸If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.

¹⁸Nak ninxic saß cßalebâl nequeßcuil li queßcamsîc saß li plêt. Ut saß eb li tenamit, nequeßcuil li yôqueb chi câmc xban cueßej. Eb li profeta ut eb laj tij xeßcßameß saß jun tenamit li incßaß xeßxnau ru,” chaßakat.—

¹⁹Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul lothed Zion? why hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? we looked for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold trouble!

²⁰We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee.

²⁰At Kâcuaß, lâo xomâcob châcuu. Nakanau nak incßaß us xkabânu. Ut queßmâcob ajcuiß châcuu eb li kaxeßtônil yucuaß.

²¹Do not abhor us, for thy name's sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.

²¹Saß xcßabaß lâ rahom, at Kâcuaß, moâtzßektâna. Ut mâcßut xxutân lâ tenamit li cuan cuiß lâ lokßlaj cßojaribâl. Mâcuisi xcuanquil li contrato li cabânu kiqßuin. Incßaß taxak chi sachk saß âchßôl.¿Ma cuan ta biß junak li yîbanbil dios saß li xnînkal ru tenamit târûk tixtakla chak li hab? ¿Ma naru ta biß tâchâlk li hab saß choxa yal xjunes? ¿Ma mâcuaß ta biß lâat, at Kâcuaß, nacatqßuehoc re? Joßcan nak caßaj cuiß âcuiqßuin noco-oybenin xban nak lâat nacatqßuehoc re chixjunil li cßaßak re ru aßin, chan laj Jeremías.

²²Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.
