¹Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?

¹സഹോദരന്മാരേ, ന്യായപ്രമാണം അറിയുന്നവരോടല്ലോ ഞാന്‍ സംസാരിക്കുന്നതുമനുഷ്യന്‍ ജീവനോടിരിക്കും കാലത്തൊക്കെയും ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിന്നു അവന്റെമേല്‍ അധികാരമുണ്ടു എന്നു നിങ്ങള്‍ അറിയുന്നില്ലയോ?

²For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.

²ഭര്‍ത്താവുള്ള സ്ത്രീ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ഭര്‍ത്താവിനോടു ന്യായപ്രമാണത്താല്‍ ബന്ധിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. ഭര്‍ത്താവു മരിച്ചാല്‍ അവള്‍ ഭര്‍ത്തൃന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില്‍നിന്നു ഒഴിവുള്ളവളായി.

³So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

³ഭര്‍ത്താവു ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ അവള്‍ വേറെ പുരുഷന്നു ആയാല്‍ വ്യഭിചാരിണി എന്നു പേര്‍ വരും; ഭര്‍ത്താവു മരിച്ചു എങ്കിലോ അവള്‍ വേറെ പുരുഷന്നു ആയാല്‍ വ്യഭിചാരിണി എന്നു വരാതവണ്ണം ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില്‍നിന്നു സ്വതന്ത്രയാകുന്നു.

⁴Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

⁴അതുകൊണ്ടു സഹോദരന്മാരേ, നാം ദൈവത്തിന്നു ഫലം കായക്കുമാറു മരിച്ചിട്ടു ഉയിര്‍ത്തെഴുന്നേറ്റവനായ വേറോരുവന്നു ആകേണ്ടതിന്നു നിങ്ങളും ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ ശരീരം മുഖാന്തരം ന്യായപ്രമാണസംബന്ധമായി മരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

⁵For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

⁵നാം ജഡത്തിലായിരുന്നപ്പോള്‍ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്താല്‍ ഉളവായ പാപരാഗങ്ങള്‍ മരണത്തില്‍ ഫലം കായ്ക്കത്തക്കവണ്ണം നമ്മുടെ അവയവങ്ങളില്‍ വ്യാപരിച്ചുപോന്നു.

⁶But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

⁶ഇപ്പോഴോ, നമ്മെ പിടിച്ചടക്കിയിരുന്ന ന്യായപ്രമാണം സംബന്ധിച്ചു മരിച്ചിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അക്ഷരത്തിന്റെ പഴക്കത്തിലല്ല ആത്മാവിന്റെ പുതുക്കത്തില്‍ തന്നേ സേവിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നാം ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില്‍നിന്നു ഒഴിവുള്ളവരായിരിക്കുന്നു.

⁷What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

⁷ആകയാല്‍ നാം എന്തു പറയേണ്ടു? ന്യായപ്രമാണം പാപം എന്നോ? ഒരുനാളും അരുതു. എങ്കിലും ന്യായപ്രമാണത്താല്‍ അല്ലാതെ ഞാന്‍ പാപത്തെ അറിഞ്ഞില്ല; മോഹിക്കരുതു എന്നു ന്യായപ്രമാണം പറയാതിരുന്നെങ്കില്‍ ഞാന്‍ മോഹത്തെ അറികയില്ലായിരുന്നു.

⁸But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

⁸പാപമോ അവസരം ലഭിച്ചിട്ടു കല്പനയാല്‍ എന്നില്‍ സകലവിധ മോഹത്തെയും ജനിപ്പിച്ചു; ന്യായപ്രമാണം കൂടാതെ പാപം നിര്‍ജ്ജീവമാകുന്നു.

⁹For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

⁹ഞാന്‍ ഒരുകാലത്തു ന്യായപ്രമാണം കൂടാതെ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നു; എന്നാല്‍ കല്പന വന്നപ്പോള്‍ പാപംവീണ്ടും ജീവിക്കയും ഞാന്‍ മരിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

¹⁰And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.

¹⁰ഇങ്ങനെ ജീവന്നായി ലഭിച്ചിരുന്ന കല്പന എനിക്കു മരണ ഹേതുവായിത്തീര്‍ന്നു എന്നു ഞാന്‍ കണ്ടു. പാപം അവസരം ലഭിച്ചിട്ടു കല്പനയാല്‍ എന്നെ ചതിക്കയും കൊല്ലുകയും ചെയ്തു.

¹¹For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

¹¹ആകയാല്‍ ന്യായപ്രമാണം വിശുദ്ധം; കല്പന വിശുദ്ധവും ന്യായവും നല്ലതും തന്നേ.

¹²Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

¹²എന്നാല്‍ നന്മയായുള്ളതു എനിക്കു മരണകാരണമായിത്തീര്‍ന്നു എന്നോ? ഒരുനാളും അരുതു, പാപമത്രേ മരണമായിത്തീര്‍ന്നതു; അതു നന്മയായുള്ളതിനെക്കൊണ്ടു എനിക്കു മരണം ഉളവാക്കുന്നതിനാല്‍ പാപം എന്നു തെളിയേണ്ടതിന്നു കല്പനയാല്‍ അത്യന്തം പാപമായിത്തീരേണ്ടതിന്നും തന്നേ.

¹³Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

¹³ന്യായപ്രമാണം ആത്മികം എന്നു നാം അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ; ഞാനോ ജഡമയന്‍ , പാപത്തിന്നു ദാസനായി വില്‍ക്കപ്പെട്ടവന്‍ തന്നേ.

¹⁴For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

¹⁴ഞാന്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നതു ഞാന്‍ അറിയുന്നില്ല; ഞാന്‍ ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നതിനെ അല്ല പകെക്കുന്നതിനെ അത്രേ ചെയ്യുന്നതു.

¹⁵For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

¹⁵ഞാന്‍ ഇച്ഛിക്കാത്തതിനെ ചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കിലോ ന്യായപ്രമാണം നല്ലതു എന്നു ഞാന്‍ സമ്മതിക്കുന്നു.

¹⁶If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.

¹⁶ആകയാല്‍ അതിനെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നതു ഞാനല്ല എന്നില്‍ വസിക്കുന്ന പാപമത്രേ.

¹⁷Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

¹⁷എന്നില്‍ എന്നുവെച്ചാല്‍ എന്റെ ജഡത്തില്‍ നന്മ വസിക്കുന്നില്ല എന്നു ഞാന്‍ അറിയുന്നു; നന്മ ചെയ്‍വാനുള്ള താല്പര്യം എനിക്കുണ്ടു; പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നതോ ഇല്ല.

¹⁸For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

¹⁸ഞാന്‍ ചെയ്‍വാന്‍ ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്ന നന്മ ചെയ്യുന്നില്ലല്ലോ; ഇച്ഛിക്കാത്ത തിന്മയത്രേ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നതു.

¹⁹For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

¹⁹ഞാന്‍ ഇച്ഛിക്കാത്തതിനെ ചെയ്യുന്നു എങ്കിലോ അതിനെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നതു ഞാനല്ല എന്നില്‍ വസിക്കുന്ന പാപമത്രേ.

²⁰Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

²⁰അങ്ങനെ നന്മ ചെയ്‍വാന്‍ ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്ന ഞാന്‍ തിന്മ എന്റെ പക്കല്‍ ഉണ്ടു എന്നൊരു പ്രമാണം കാണുന്നു.

²¹I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

²¹ഉള്ളംകൊണ്ടു ഞാന്‍ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില്‍ രസിക്കുന്നു.

²²For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

²²എങ്കിലും എന്റെ ബുദ്ധിയുടെ പ്രമാണത്തോടു പോരാടുന്ന വേറൊരു പ്രമാണം ഞാന്‍ എന്റെ അവയവങ്ങളില്‍ കാണുന്നു; അതു എന്റെ അവയവങ്ങളിലുള്ള പാപപ്രമാണത്തിന്നു എന്നെ ബദ്ധനാക്കിക്കളയുന്നു.

²³But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

²³അയ്യോ, ഞാന്‍ അരിഷ്ടമനുഷ്യന്‍ ! ഈ മരണത്തിന്നു അധീനമായ ശരീരത്തില്‍നിന്നു എന്നെ ആര്‍ വിടുവിക്കും?

²⁴O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

²⁴നമ്മുടെ കര്‍ത്താവായ യേശുക്രിസ്തുമുഖാന്തരം ഞാന്‍ ദൈവത്തിന്നു സ്തോത്രം ചെയ്യുന്നു. ഇങ്ങനെ ഞാന്‍ തന്നേ ബുദ്ധികൊണ്ടു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പ്രമാണത്തെയും ജഡംകൊണ്ടു പാപത്തിന്റെ പ്രമാണത്തെയും സേവിക്കുന്നു.

²⁵I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
