¹And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.

¹आसाच्या जागी आता यहोशाफाट यहूदाचा राजा झाला. यहोशाफाट हा आसाचा मुलगा. इस्राएलला तोंड देता यावे म्हणून यहोशाफाटने यहूदाचे बळ वाढवले.

²And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.

²त्याने यहूदाच्या सर्व तटबंदीच्या नगरांमध्ये सैन्याच्या तुकड्या ठेवल्या. आसाने काबीज केलेल्या एफ्राइमच्या नगरांमध्ये तसेच यहूदामध्ये त्याने ठाणी बसवली.

³And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim;

⁴But sought to the Lord God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.

⁴आपल्या पूर्वजांच्या देवालाच तो शरण गेला. परमेश्वराच्या आज्ञा त्याने पाळल्या. इतर इस्राएल लोकांसारखा तो वागला नाही.

⁵Therefore the LORD stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honor in abundance.

⁵परमेश्वारने यहोशाफाटला यहूदाचा खंबीर राजा केले. यहूदा लोकांनी यहोशाफाटसाठी नजराणे आणले त्यामुळे त्याला धन तसेच मानसन्मान मिळाला.

⁶And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.

⁶परमेश्वराच्या मार्गाने वाटचाल करण्यात यहोशाफाटचे मन रमले. यहूदा प्रांतातील उच्च स्थाने आणि अशेरा देवीचे खांब त्याने काढून टाकले.

⁷Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, even to Benhail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.

⁸And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tobadonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.

⁹And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.

¹⁰And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.

¹⁰यहूदाच्या आसपासच्या देशांनी परमेश्वराची धास्ती घेतली होती. त्यामुळे त्यांनी यहोशाफाटवर स्वारी करुन युध्दाला तोंड फोडले नाही.

¹¹Also some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.

¹¹काही पलिष्टे यहोशाफाटसाठी भेटी आणत. या राजाचे वर्चस्व ते जाणून असल्यामुळे रुपेही आणत. काही अरबी शेळ्या-मेंढ्या घेऊन येत. त्यांनी असे 7,700 मेंढे आणि 7,700 बोकड त्याला दिले.

¹²And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store.

¹³And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valor, were in Jerusalem.

¹⁴And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valor three hundred thousand.

¹⁴आपापल्या घराण्यांप्रमाणे त्यांची गणती झालेली होती. ती पुढीलप्रमाणे: यहूदातील सरदार असे: अदना हा 3,00,000 सैनिकांचा सेनापती होता.

¹⁵And next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand.

¹⁵यहोहानानच्या हाताखाली 280,000 सैनिक होते.

¹⁶And next him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor.

¹⁶जिख्रीचा मुलगा अमस्या हा त्या खालोखाल 2,00,000 जणांचा मुख्य होता. त्याने आपणहून परमेश्वराच्या सेवेला वाहून घेतले होते.

¹⁷And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valor, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand.

¹⁷बन्यामिनांच्या वंशातील सरदार असे: एल्यादाच्या अखत्यारीत 2,00,000 सैनिक धनुष्यबाण आणि ढाली वापरण्यात तरबेज होते. एल्यादा हा एक अतिशय शूर योध्दा होता.

¹⁸And next him was Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war.

¹⁸यहोजाबादकडे युध्दसज्ज असे 1,80,000 जण होते.

¹⁹These waited on the king, beside those whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.

¹⁹ही सर्व फौज राजा यहोशाफाट याच्या सेवेत होती. या खेेरीज यहूदाभरच्या नगरांमधील किल्ल्यांवर त्याने माणसे नेमली होती.
