¹The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

¹दमास्कसला हा शोक संदेश आहे. परमेश्वर म्हणतो की पुढील गोष्टी दमास्कसला घडतील. “आता दमास्कस एक शहर आहे. पण त्याचा नाश होईल. फक्त पडझड झालेल्या इमारती तेथे शिल्लक राहतील.

²The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

²लोक अरोएराची शहरे सोडून जातील. त्या ओसाड शहरांतून शेळ्यामेंढ्यांचे कळप मुक्तपणे हिंडतील. त्यांना हाकलायला तेथे कोणी माणूस नसेल.

³The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.

³एफ्राइमची (इस्राएलची) किल्ले असलेली शहरे नष्ट होतील. दमास्कसचे सरकार पडेल. इस्राएलला जे घडले तेच सिरीयात घडेल. सगळी प्रतिष्ठित माणसे दूर केली जातील.” सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वराच्या म्हणण्याप्रमाणे ह्या गोष्टी घडतील.

⁴And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.

⁴त्या वेळी याकोबाची (इस्राएलची) सर्व संपत्ती नष्ट होईल. आजारी माणसाप्रमाणे याकोब दुबळा व बारीक होईल.

⁵And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim.

⁵एफ्राइम खोऱ्यातील धान्याच्या मोसमाप्रमाणे तो काळ असेल. मजूर शेतात पिकलेली पिके कापून गोळा करतात. नंतर कणसे तोडून ते धान्य गोळा करतात.

⁶Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel.

⁶तो काळ जैतूनच्या मोसमाप्रमाणेही असेल. लोक झाड हलवून जैतूनची फळे पाडतात. पण काही झाडावर राहतातच. उंचावरच्या फांद्यावर चार-पाच फळे राहून जातातच. ह्या शहरांचेही असेच होईल. सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वराने हे सांगितले आहे.

⁷At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.

⁷त्या वेळी लोक देवाकडे म्हणजे आपल्या जन्मदात्याकडे पाहतील. त्यांना इस्राएलच्या पवित्र देवाचे दर्शन होईल.

⁸And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.

⁸लोक, स्वत:च्या हाताने केलेल्या वेद्यांकडे जाणार नाहीत. त्यांनी खोट्या देवांसाठी तयार केलेल्या अशेरा स्तंभाचा आणि धूपाच्या वेद्यांचा ते मान ठेवणार नाहीत.

⁹In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.

⁹त्या वेळेला किल्ले असलेली सर्व शहरे ओस पडतील. इस्राएलचे लोक येण्याआधी त्या भूमीवर जसे डोंगर आणि जंगले होती त्याप्रमाणे ती शहरे होतील. पूर्वी इस्राएली लोकांना येताना पाहून तेथे राहणारे लोक पळून गेले. भविष्यात परत एकदा देश ओस पडेल.

¹⁰Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:

¹⁰असे घडण्याचे कारण तू तुला वाचवणाऱ्या देवाला विसरलास. देव हे तुझ्यासाठी सुरक्षित आश्रयस्थान आहे, हे तुझ्या लक्षात राहिले नाही. दूरच्या देशांतून तू चांगल्या जातीच्या द्राक्षवेली आणल्यास तू त्यांची लावणी करशील पण त्या वाढणार नाहीत.

¹¹In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.

¹¹एके दिवशी तू द्राक्षवेलींची लागवड करशील, त्या वाढाव्या म्हणून प्रयत्न करशील. दुसऱ्या दिवसापासून त्या वाढूही लागतील पण सुगीच्या काळात तू फळे गोळा करायला जाशील तेव्हा तुला सगळे सुकून गेलेले दिसेल. रोगाने सर्व वेली मरून जातील.

¹²Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!

¹²समुद्राच्या गर्जनेप्रमाणे येणारा पुष्कळ लोकांचा आक्रोश ऐक. ते मोठ्याने रडत आहेत. लाटा एकमेकीवर आदळून उठणाऱ्या आवाजाप्रमाणे हा आक्रोश आहे.

¹³The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

¹³लोकांची स्थितीही त्या लाटांप्रमाणेच होईल. देव त्यांची कानउघाडणी करील आणि ते लांबवर धावत सुटतील. लोकांची स्थिती वाऱ्यावर उडून जाणाऱ्या फोलपटाप्रमाणे होईल. वावटळीत उडून जाणाऱ्या गवताप्रमाणे त्यांची अवस्था होईल.

¹⁴And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.

¹⁴त्या रात्री सर्व माणसे अतिशय भयभीत होतील. उजाडण्यापूर्वी सर्व नष्ट झालेले असेल. त्यामुळे आमच्या शत्रूंना काहीही मिळणार नाही ते ह्या भूमीवर पाय ठेवतील तेव्हा येथे काहीही उरलेले नसेल.
