¹I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

¹“रस्त्यातल्या मुलीकडे अभिलाषेने न बघण्याचा करार मी माझ्या डोळ्यांशी केला आहे.

²For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

²तो सर्वशाक्तिमान देव लोकांना काय करतो? तो त्याच्या स्वर्गातील घरातून लोकांची परतफेड कशी करतो?

³Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

³देव दुष्टासाठी संकटे आणि विनाश पाठवतो. आणि जे चुका करतात त्यांच्यासाठी अरिष्टे पाठवतो.

⁴Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

⁴मी जे काही करतो ते देवाला दिसते. माझी प्रत्येक हालचाल तो बघतो.

⁵If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

⁵“मी खोटे बोललो नाही व लोकांना फसविण्याचा प्रयत्न केलेला नाही.

⁶Let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know mine integrity.

⁶जर देव योग्य तागडी वापरेल तर त्याला समजेल की मी निरपराध आहे.

⁷If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;

⁷मी जर योग्य मार्गापासून दूर गेलो असेन आणि माझ्या डोळ्यांनी जर माझ्या मनाला वाईटाकडे वळवले असेल किंवा माझे हात पापांनी बरबटलेले असतील.

⁸Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.

⁸तर इतरांना मी पेरलेले धान्य खाऊ दे. आणि माझे पीक उपटून घेऊ दे.

⁹If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;

⁹“माझ्या मनात स्त्रियांबद्दल लंपट भावना उत्पन्न झाली असेल किंवा शेजाऱ्याच्या बायको बरोबर व्यभिचार करण्यासाठी त्याच्या घराचे दार उघडण्याची मी वाट पहात असेन.

¹⁰Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.

¹⁰तर माझ्या बायकोला दुसऱ्याचे अन्न शिजवू दे आणि दुसऱ्यांना तिची शय्यासोबत करु दे.

¹¹For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.

¹¹का? कारण लैंगिक पाप लज्जास्पद आहे. या पापाला शिक्षा झालीच पाहिजे.

¹²For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.

¹²लैंगिक पाप माझ्या सर्वस्वाचा नाश करील. सर्वस्वाचा होम करणारी ती आग आहे.

¹³If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;

¹³“माझे गुलाम माझ्या विरुध्द तक्रार करतात तेव्हा मी न्यायाने वागण्याचे मान्य केले नाही,

¹⁴What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

¹⁴तर मी जेव्हा देवासमोर जाईन तेव्हा मी काय करु? देवाने माझ्या वागण्याचा जाब विचारला तर मी काय उत्तर देऊ?

¹⁵Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

¹⁵देवाने मला माझ्या आईच्या शरीरात निर्माण केले आणि त्यानेच माझ्या गुलामांनाही घडवले. देवाने आपल्या सर्वांचीच आईच्या पोटात निर्मिती केली आहे.

¹⁶If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

¹⁶“मी गरीबांना मदत करणे कधीच अमान्य केले नाही. मी विधवांना नेहमीच त्यांना ज्याची गरज असते ते दिले.

¹⁷Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

¹⁷मी माझ्या अन्नाविषयी कधीच स्वार्थी नव्हतो. मी पोरक्यांना नेहमी अन्न दिले आहे.

¹⁸(For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;)

¹⁸मी जन्मभर पोरक्यांचा बाप बनलो. मी विधवांची काळजी वाहिली.

¹⁹If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;

¹⁹जेव्हा जेव्हा मला कपडे नाहीत म्हणून दु:खी होणारे लोक दिसले किंवा कोट नसलेले गरीब लोक दिसले.

²⁰If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

²⁰त्यांना मी नेहमी कपडे दिले. मी माझ्या मेंढ्यांची लोकर त्यांना उबदार ठेवण्यासाठी वापरली आणि त्यांनी अंत:करणापासून मला आशीर्वाद दिले.

²¹If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

²¹माझ्या दाराजवळ एखादा पोरका मुलगा मदतीसाठी आलेला मला दिसला तर मी त्याच्यावर कधीही हात उगारला नाही.

²²Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.

²²मी जर कधी असे केले तर माझा हात माझ्या खांद्यांपासून निखळून पडो मी जर कधी असे केले तर माझा हात माझ्या खांद्याच्या सांध्यातून तुटून पडो.

²³For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

²³परंतु यापैकी कुठलीही वाईट गोष्ट मी केली नाही. मला देवाच्या शिक्षेची भीती वाटते. परमेश्वराच्या महतीला मी घाबरतो.

²⁴If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;

²⁴“मला माझ्या श्रीमंतीचा कधीच भरंवसा वाटला नाही. देव मला मदत करेल याचा मला नेहमीच विश्वास वाटला. ‘तू माझी आशा आहेस असे’ मी शुध्द सोन्याला कधीच म्हटले नाही.

²⁵If I rejoice because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;

²⁵मी श्रीमंत होतो पण मला त्याचा अभिमान नव्हता. मी खूप पैसे कमावले पण मी सुखी झालो नाही.

²⁶If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;

²⁶मी चकाकत्या सूर्यांची सुंदर चंद्राची कधीच पूजा केली नाही.

²⁷And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:

²⁷सूर्य, चंद्राची पूजा करण्याइतका मूर्ख मी कधीच नव्हतो.

²⁸This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.

²⁸ते सुध्दा शिक्षा करण्यासारखेच पाप आहे. मी जर त्या गोष्टींची पूजा केली असती तर सर्वशक्तिमान देवाचा विश्वासघात केल्यासारखे झाले असते.

²⁹If I rejoice at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

²⁹“माझ्या शत्रूंचा पाडाव झाल्याचा मला कधीच आनंद वाटला नाही. माझ्या शत्रूंवर संकट कोसळल्यामुळे मी त्यांना कधी हसलो नाही.

³⁰Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.

³⁰माझ्या शत्रूंना शाप देऊन आणि त्यांच्या मरणाची इच्छा करुन मी माझ्या तोंडाला कधी पाप करायला लावले नाही.

³¹If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

³¹मी अपरिचितांना अन्न देतो हे माझ्या घरातील सर्वाना माहीत आहे.

³²The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.

³²परदेशी लोकांना रात्रीच्या वेळी रस्त्यावर झोपायला लागू नये म्हणून मी त्यांना माझ्या घरी बोलावतो.

³³If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom:

³³इतर लोक त्यांचे पाप लपवायचा प्रयत्न करतात परंतु मी माझा अपराध लपवायचा कधीच प्रयत्न केला नाही.

³⁴Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?

³⁴लोक काय म्हणतील याची भीती मी कधीच बाळगली नाही. मी भीतीपोटी कधीच गप्प बसलो नाही. भीतीमुळे मी बाहेर पडायला कचरलो नाही. मला लोकांच्या तिरस्काराची भीती वाटत नाही.

³⁵Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.

³⁵“माझे कुणीतरी ऐकावे असे मला वाटते. मला माझी बाजू मांडू द्या. सर्वशक्तिमान देवाने मला उत्तर द्यावे अशी माझी इच्छा आहे. त्याच्या दृष्टीने मी काय चूक केली ती त्याने लिहून काढावी असे मला वाटते.

³⁶Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.

³⁶नंतर मी ती खूण माझ्या गळ्याभोवती घालेन. मी ती राजमुकुटाप्रमाणे माझ्या मस्तकावर ठेवेन.

³⁷I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

³⁷देवाने जर असे केले तर मी जे काही केले त्याचे स्पष्टीकरण देऊ शकेन. एखाद्या पुढाऱ्याप्रमाणे माझे मस्तक उंच करुन मी देवाकडे येऊ शकेन.

³⁸If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain;

³⁸“मी दुसऱ्याकडून त्याची जमीन हिसकावून घेतली नाही. माझी जमीन चोरुन घेतली आहे असा आरोप माझ्यावर कुणीही करु शकणार नाही.

³⁹If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:

³⁹मी शेतकऱ्यांना माझ्या शेतातून मिळणाऱ्या धान्याबद्दल नेहमी मोबदला दिला आहे. आणि जे जमिनीचे मालक आहेत त्यांच्याकडून जमीन घेण्याचा प्रयत्न मी कधीही केला नाही.

⁴⁰Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

⁴⁰मी यापैकी कुठलीही वाईट गोष्ट केली असेल तर माझ्या शेतात गहू आणि सातू या ऐवजी काटे आणि गवत उगवू दे” ईयोबचे शब्द इथे संपले.
