¹The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

¹ही शलमोनाची नीतिसूत्रे (शहाणपणाच्या गोष्टी) आहेत शहाणा मुलगा त्याच्या वडिलांना सुखी करतो. पण मूर्ख मुलगा त्याच्या आईला अतिशय दु:खी करतो.

²Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.

²जर एखाद्याने वाईट गोष्टी करुन पैसे मिळवले तर ते पैसे कवडी मोलाचे असतात. पण सत्कर्म तुम्हाला मरणापासून वाचवू शकते.

³The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.

³परमेश्वर चांगल्या लोकांची काळजी घेतो. तो त्यांना हवे असलेले अन्न देतो. परंतु परमेश्वर वाईट लोकाक़डून त्यांना हव्या असलेल्या गोष्टी काढून घेतो.

⁴He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

⁴आळशी माणूस गरीब राहील. पण जो माणूस कष्ट करील तो श्रीमंत होईल.

⁵He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

⁵हुशार मुलगा योग्य वेळी धान्य गोळा करतो. पण हंगामाच्या वेळी झोपणारा आणि धान्य गोळा न करणारा मुलगा लाज आणतो.

⁶Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

⁶लोक देवाला चांगल्या माणसाला आशीर्वाद द्यायला सांगतात. वाईट लोक त्या चांगल्या गोष्टी म्हणतील परंतु त्याचे शब्द त्यांच्या वाईट योजना फक्त लपवतात.

⁷The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

⁷चांगली माणसे चांगल्या आठवणी मागे ठेवतात. पण वाईट माणसे लवकर विसरली जातात.

⁸The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

⁸चांगला, इमानी माणूस सुरक्षित असतो. परंतु कुटिल, फसवणारा माणूस मात्र पकडला जातो.

⁹He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.

⁹शहाण्या माणसाला जर एखाद्याने काही करायला सांगितले तर तो त्या आज्ञा पाळतो. परंतु मूर्ख माणूस वाद घालतो आणि स्वत:वर संकट ओढवून घेतो.

¹⁰He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.

¹⁰जो माणूस सत्य लपवतो तो संकटे निर्माण करतो. जो माणूस उघडपणे बोलतो तो शांती निर्माण करतो.

¹¹The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

¹¹चांगल्या माणसाच्या शब्दांमुळे आयुष्य चांगले होते. पण दुष्टाच्या शब्दांतून त्याच्या मनातला वाईटपणा तेव्वढा दिसतो.

¹²Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

¹²मत्सरमुळे वादविवाद होतात. पण प्रेम लोकांनी केलेल्या प्रत्येक चुकीच्या गोष्टीला क्षमा करते.

¹³In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

¹³शहाणे लोक ऐकायला योग्य अशा गोष्टी बोलतात. पण मूर्ख लोकांनी सुधारावे म्हणून त्यांना शिक्षा करायला हवी.

¹⁴Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

¹⁴शहाणे लोक शांत असतात आणि नवीन गोष्टी शिकतात. पण मूर्ख लोक बोलतात आणि संकटे ओढवून घेतात.

¹⁵The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.

¹⁵संपत्ती श्रीमंत माणसाचे रक्षण करते आणि गरिबी गरिबांचा नाश करते.

¹⁶The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.

¹⁶जर एखाद्याने चांगले कृत्य केले तर त्याला बक्षीस मिळते. त्याला आयुष्य दिले जाते. पण दुष्टावा केवळ शिक्षा आणतो.

¹⁷He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.

¹⁷जो माणूस शिक्षेपासून काही शिकतो तो इतरांनासुध्दा जगायला शिकवू शकतो. पण जो माणूस शिकायला नकार देतो तो लोकांना चुकीच्या मार्गाने नेतो.

¹⁸He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.

¹⁸जो माणूस त्याचा मत्सर लपवतो तो खोटे बोलत असतो. पण केवळ मूर्खच पसरवता येण्यासारख्या अफवा शोधण्याचा प्रयत्न करतो.

¹⁹In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

¹⁹जो माणूस खूप बडबड करतो तो संकंटांना आमंत्रण देतो. शहाणा माणूस गप्प राहायला शिकतो.

²⁰The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.

²⁰चांगल्या माणसाचे शब्द शुध्द चांदीसारखे असतात. पण दुष्ट माणसाचे विचार कवडीमोलाचे असतात.

²¹The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

²¹चांगल्या माणसांच्या शब्दामुळे अनेकांना मदत होते. पण मूर्खाची मूर्खता त्यालाच मारु शकते.

²²The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

²²परमेश्वराच्या आशीर्वादाने तुला खरी संपत्ती मिळेल. आणि ती आपल्याबरोबर संकटे आणणार नाही.

²³It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

²³मूर्ख माणसाला चुका करायला आवडते. परंतु शहाणा माणूस ज्ञानाने खुश होतो.

²⁴The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

²⁴दुष्ट माणसाला ज्या गोष्टींची भीती वाटते त्या गोष्टींकडूनच त्याचा पराभव होतो. पण चांगल्या माणसाला मात्र हव्या असलेल्या गोष्टी मिळतात.

²⁵As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

²⁵दुष्टांचा नाश त्यांच्या संकटांमुळे होतो. पण चांगली माणसे नेहमी बलवान राहातात.

²⁶As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

²⁶आळशी माणसाला तुमच्यासाठी, काहीही करायला सांगू नका. तुमच्या तोंडात शिरलेल्या आंबेप्रमाणे किंवा डोळ्यांत गेलेल्या धुराप्रमाणे तो तुम्हाला चीड आणील.

²⁷The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

²⁷जर तुम्ही परमेश्वराचा आदर करीत असाल तर तुम्ही खूप जगाल. पण दुष्टाची त्याच्या आयुष्यातली अनेक वर्ष कमी होतील.

²⁸The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

²⁸चांगले लोक ज्या गोष्टींची आशा करतात त्या त्यांना आनंद मिळवून देतात. ज्या गोष्टींची आशा वाईट लोक करतात त्या त्यांना विनाश आणतात.

²⁹The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

²⁹परमेश्वर चांगल्या माणसांचे रक्षण करतो. पण जे लोक चुका करतात त्यांचा परमेश्वर नाश करतो.

³⁰The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.

³⁰चांगले लोक नेहमी सुरक्षित असतात. पण दुष्टांना जबरदस्तीने देश सोडणे भाग पडते.

³¹The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.

³¹चांगले लोक शहाणपणाच्या गोष्टी सांगतात. पण जो संकटे आणणाऱ्या गोष्टी सांगतो त्याचे ऐकणे लोक बंद करतात.

³²The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.

³²चांगले लोक बोलण्याच्या योग्य गोष्टी जाणतात. पण वाईट लोक संकटे आणणाऱ्या गोष्टीच बोलतात.
