¹And it came to pass, that after we were gotten from them, and had launched, we came with a straight course unto Coos, and the day following unto Rhodes, and from thence unto Patara:

¹Da vi nu hadde revet oss løs fra dem og hadde seilt avsted, kom vi rett frem til Kos, næste dag til Rodus, og derfra til Patara.

²And finding a ship sailing over unto Phenicia, we went aboard, and set forth.

²Der fant vi et skib som skulde fare rett over til Fønikia; vi gikk da ombord på det og seilte avsted.

³Now when we had discovered Cyprus, we left it on the left hand, and sailed into Syria, and landed at Tyre: for there the ship was to unlade her burden.

³Efterat vi hadde fått Kypern i sikte og latt den efter oss på venstre hånd, seilte vi til Syria og løp inn til Tyrus; for der skulde skibet losse sin ladning.

⁴And finding disciples, we tarried there seven days: who said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not go up to Jerusalem.

⁴Vi opsøkte da disiplene og blev der i syv dager; de sa til Paulus ved Ånden at han ikke måtte dra til Jerusalem.

⁵And when we had accomplished those days, we departed and went our way; and they all brought us on our way, with wives and children, till we were out of the city: and we kneeled down on the shore, and prayed.

⁵Da nu disse dager var til ende, drog vi derfra og fór videre, og de fulgte oss alle med kvinner og barn helt utenfor byen; vi falt da på kne på stranden og bad;

⁶And when we had taken our leave one of another, we took ship; and they returned home again.

⁶så bød vi hverandre farvel, og vi gikk ombord på skibet; men de vendte tilbake til sitt.

⁷And when we had finished our course from Tyre, we came to Ptolemais, and saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.

⁷Vi endte nu sjøferden og kom fra Tyrus til Ptolemais; der hilste vi på brødrene og blev en dag hos dem.

⁸And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him.

⁸Næste dag drog vi derfra og kom til Cesarea; der tok vi inn hos Filip, evangelisten, som var en av de syv, og blev hos ham.

⁹And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.

⁹Han hadde fire ugifte døtre som hadde profetisk gave.

¹⁰And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.

¹⁰Mens vi nu blev der i flere dager, kom en profet ved navn Agabus ned fra Judea;

¹¹And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

¹¹han kom til oss og tok Paulus' belte og bandt sig selv på hender og føtter og sa: Så sier den Hellige Ånd: Den mann som eier dette belte, ham skal jødene binde således i Jerusalem og overgi i hedningenes hender.

¹²And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that place, besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.

¹²Da vi hørte dette, bad vi ham, både vi og de der på stedet, at han ikke måtte dra op til Jerusalem.

¹³Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

¹³Men Paulus svarte: Hvorfor gråter I og sønderriver mitt hjerte? Jeg er rede ikke bare til å bindes, men også til å dø i Jerusalem for den Herre Jesu navn.

¹⁴And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.

¹⁴Da han nu ikke lot sig overtale, slo vi oss til ro og sa: Skje Herrens vilje!

¹⁵And after those days we took up our carriages, and went up to Jerusalem.

¹⁵Da nu disse dager var til ende, gjorde vi oss i stand og drog op til Jerusalem,

¹⁶There went with us also certain of the disciples of Caesarea, and brought with them one Mnason of Cyprus, an old disciple, with whom we should lodge.

¹⁶og sammen med oss reiste også nogen av disiplene fra Cesarea; de førte oss til en som hette Mnason, fra Kypern, en gammel disippel, som vi skulde bo hos.

¹⁷And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.

¹⁷Da vi nu kom til Jerusalem, tok brødrene imot oss med glede.

¹⁸And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present.

¹⁸Den næste dag gikk Paulus med oss til Jakob, og alle de eldste kom dit.

¹⁹And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.

¹⁹Og da han hadde hilst på dem, fortalte han det som Gud hadde gjort blandt hedningene ved hans tjeneste, det ene efter det annet.

²⁰And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law:

²⁰Da de hørte det, priste de Gud; og så sa de til ham: Du ser, bror, hvor mangfoldige tusener det er blandt jødene som har tatt ved troen, og alle er de nidkjære for loven;

²¹And they are informed of thee, that thou teachest all the Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.

²¹men nu har de hørt si om dig at ute blandt hedningene lærer du alle jøder frafall fra Moses og sier at de ikke skal omskjære sine barn eller vandre efter de gamle skikker.

²²What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come together: for they will hear that thou art come.

²²Hvad er da å gjøre? I ethvert fall vil en hel mengde komme sammen; for de vil få høre at du er kommet.

²³Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men which have a vow on them;

²³Gjør nu derfor som vi sier til dig! Vi har her fire menn som har et løfte på sig;

²⁴Them take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: and all may know that those things, whereof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, and keepest the law.

²⁴slå dig sammen med dem og la dig rense med dem, og ta på dig omkostningene for dem, så de kan få rake sitt hode! så vil alle skjønne at det ikke er noget i det som de har hørt si om dig, men at du også selv vandrer så at du holder loven.

²⁵As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.

²⁵Men om de hedninger som har tatt ved troen, har vi sendt brev og vedtatt at de ikke skal holde noget sådant, men bare vokte sig for avgudsoffer og blod og det som er kvalt, og hor.

²⁶Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them entered into the temple, to signify the accomplishment of the days of purification, until that an offering should be offered for every one of them.

²⁶Da slo Paulus sig sammen med mennene, og den næste dag lot han sig rense med dem og gikk inn i templet for å melde utløpet av renselsesdagene, da offeret skulde frembæres for enhver av dem.

²⁷And when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews which were of Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all the people, and laid hands on him,

²⁷Da nu de syv dager led til ende, fikk jødene fra Asia se ham i templet, og de satte op hele hopen og la hånd på ham

²⁸Crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teacheth all men every where against the people, and the law, and this place: and further brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath polluted this holy place.

²⁸og skrek: Israelittiske menn! kom til hjelp! Dette er det menneske som allesteds lærer alle imot folket og loven og dette sted, og han har endog ført grekere inn i templet og vanhelliget dette hellige sted.

²⁹(For they had seen before with him in the city Trophimus an Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.)

²⁹For de hadde før sett Trofimus fra Efesus ute i byen i følge med ham, og nu tenkte de at Paulus hadde ført ham inn i templet.

³⁰And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: and they took Paul, and drew him out of the temple: and forthwith the doors were shut.

³⁰Det blev da et opstyr i hele byen, og folket flokket sig sammen, og de grep Paulus og slepte ham utenfor templet, og straks blev dets dører lukket.

³¹And as they went about to kill him, tidings came unto the chief captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.

³¹Mens de nu holdt på og vilde slå ham ihjel, gikk det melding op til den øverste høvedsmann for vakten om at hele Jerusalem var i et røre.

³²Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down unto them: and when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, they left beating of Paul.

³²Han tok da straks krigsfolk og høvedsmenn og skyndte sig ned til dem; men da de så den øverste høvedsmann og krigsfolket, holdt de op med å slå Paulus.

³³Then the chief captain came near, and took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and demanded who he was, and what he had done.

³³Da kom den øverste høvedsmann bort til ham og lot ham gripe, og bød at han skulde bindes med to lenker, og spurte hvem han var, og hvad han hadde gjort.

³⁴And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude: and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the castle.

³⁴Nogen i hopen ropte da ett, andre et annet; og da han på grunn av larmen ikke kunde få noget sikkert å vite, bød han at han skulde føres inn i festningen.

³⁵And when he came upon the stairs, so it was, that he was borne of the soldiers for the violence of the people.

³⁵Da han nu kom til trappene, blev det slik at han måtte bæres av krigsfolket, så voldsom var hopen;

³⁶For the multitude of the people followed after, crying, Away with him.

³⁶for hele mengden av folket fulgte efter og skrek: Drep ham!

³⁷And as Paul was to be led into the castle, he said unto the chief captain, May I speak unto thee? Who said, Canst thou speak Greek?

³⁷Da nu Paulus skulde føres inn i festningen, sier han til den øverste høvedsmann: Får jeg lov å si et ord til dig? Han svarte: Kan du gresk?

³⁸Art not thou that Egyptian, which before these days madest an uproar, and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers?

³⁸Er du da ikke den egypter som for nogen tid siden gjorde oprør og førte de fire tusen mordere ut i ørkenen?

³⁹But Paul said, I am a man which am a Jew of Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and, I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people.

³⁹Da sa Paulus: Jeg er en jøde, fra Tarsus, borger av en ikke ukjent by i Kilikia; men jeg ber dig: Gi mig lov å tale til folket!

⁴⁰And when he had given him licence, Paul stood on the stairs, and beckoned with the hand unto the people. And when there was made a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew tongue, saying,

⁴⁰Da han gav ham lov til det, stilte Paulus sig på trappen og slo til lyd for folket med hånden; da det nu blev aldeles stille, talte han til dem på det hebraiske mål og sa:
