¹Ye are the children of the LORD your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.

¹I er Herrens, eders Guds barn; I skal ikke skjære eder i eders kjøtt og ikke rake eder skallet over pannen av sorg over en avdød;

²For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.

²for et hellig folk er du for Herren din Gud, og dig har Herren utvalgt av alle de folk som er på jorden, til å være ham et eiendomsfolk.

³Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing.

³Du skal ikke ete noget som er en vederstyggelighet.

⁴These are the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat,

⁴Dette er de firføtte dyr som I kan ete: oksen, fåret og gjeten,

⁵The hart, and the roebuck, and the fallow deer, and the wild goat, and the pygarg, and the wild ox, and the chamois.

⁵hjorten og rådyret og dådyret og stenbukken og fjellgjeten og villoksen og villgjeten.

⁶And every beast that parteth the hoof, and cleaveth the cleft into two claws, and cheweth the cud among the beasts, that ye shall eat.

⁶Alle de firføtte dyr som har klover og har dem tvekløvd helt igjennem, og som tygger drøv, dem kan I ete.

⁷Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the cloven hoof; as the camel, and the hare, and the coney: for they chew the cud, but divide not the hoof; therefore they are unclean unto you.

⁷Det er bare disse I ikke skal ete blandt dem som tygger drøv, og blandt dem som har klover som er kløvd helt igjennem: kamelen og haren og fjellgrevlingen, for de tygger vel drøv, men har ikke klover, de skal være urene for eder,

⁸And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass.

⁸og svinet, for det har vel klover, men tygger ikke drøv, det skal være urent for eder. Av disse dyrs kjøtt skal I ikke ete, og ved deres døde kropper skal I ikke røre.

⁹These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat:

⁹Dette kan I ete av alt det som er i vannet: Alt det som har finner og skjell, kan I ete;

¹⁰And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you.

¹⁰men alt det som ikke har finner og skjell, skal I ikke ete, det skal være urent for eder.

¹¹Of all clean birds ye shall eat.

¹¹Alle rene fugler kan I ete;

¹²But these are they of which ye shall not eat: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray,

¹²men disse fugler skal I ikke ete: landørnen og havørnen og fiskeørnen

¹³And the glede, and the kite, and the vulture after his kind,

¹³og kråken og falken, og glenten efter sine arter,

¹⁴And every raven after his kind,

¹⁴og alle ravnene efter sine arter,

¹⁵And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckoo, and the hawk after his kind,

¹⁵og strutsen og gjøken og måken, og høken efter sine arter,

¹⁶The little owl, and the great owl, and the swan,

¹⁶kattuglen og hubroen og nattravnen

¹⁷And the pelican, and the gier eagle, and the cormorant,

¹⁷og pelikanen og gribben og dykkeren

¹⁸And the stork, and the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.

¹⁸og storken, og heiren efter sine arter, og hærfuglen og flaggermusen.

¹⁹And every creeping thing that flieth is unclean unto you: they shall not be eaten.

¹⁹Alt kryp som har vinger, skal være urent for eder, det skal I ikke ete.

²⁰But of all clean fowls ye may eat.

²⁰Men alt flyvende som er rent, kan I ete.

²¹Ye shall not eat of anything that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien: for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.

²¹I skal ikke ete noget selvdødt dyr; du kan gi det til den fremmede som bor hos dig, forat han kan ete det, eller du kan selge det til en utlending; for et hellig folk er du for Herren din Gud. Du skal ikke koke et kje i dets mors melk.

²²Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.

²²Du skal gi tiende av all din avgrøde, av sæden som vokser på marken år for år.

²³And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.

²³Og for Herrens, din Guds åsyn, på det sted han utvelger til å la sitt navn bo der, skal du ete tienden av ditt korn og din most og din olje og det førstefødte av ditt storfe og av ditt småfe, forat du kan lære å frykte Herren din Gud alle dager.

²⁴And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:

²⁴Men hvis veien er dig for lang, så du ikke makter å føre det dit, fordi det sted Herren din Gud utvelger til å la sitt navn bo der, er for langt borte fra dig, og har Herren din Gud velsignet dig rikelig,

²⁵Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose:

²⁵så kan du selge det for penger, og pengene skal du knytte inn i et plagg og ta dem med dig til det sted som Herren din Gud utvelger.

²⁶And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,

²⁶For disse penger skal du så kjøpe alt hvad du har lyst til, storfe og småfe og vin og sterk drikk - alt det ditt hjerte attrår - og du skal ete det der for Herrens, din Guds åsyn og være glad, du og ditt hus.

²⁷And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee.

²⁷Og levitten som bor hos dig, må du ikke glemme; for han har ingen del eller arv med dig.

²⁸At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates:

²⁸Hvert tredje år skal du legge til side hele tienden av din avling i det år og opsamle den i dine byer,

²⁹And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.

²⁹og så skal levitten komme - for han har ingen del eller arv med dig - og den fremmede og den farløse og enken som bor hos dig, og de skal ete og bli mette, forat Herren din Gud må velsigne dig i alt det arbeid du tar dig fore.
