1And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them.
1Og Moses kalte hele Israel til sig og sa til dem: Hør, Israel, de lover og de bud som jeg taler for eders ører idag, og lær dem og ta vare på dem så I holder dem!
2The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.
2Herren vår Gud gjorde en pakt med oss på Horeb.
3The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.
3Ikke med våre fedre gjorde Herren denne pakt, men med oss, vi som er her, alle vi som er i live idag.
4The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,
4Åsyn til åsyn talte Herren med eder på fjellet midt ut av ilden.
5(I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to show you the word of the LORD: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying,
5Jeg stod dengang mellem Herren og eder for å kunngjøre eder Herrens ord, for I var redde for ilden og gikk ikke op på fjellet. Og han sa:
6I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
6Jeg er Herren din Gud, som førte dig ut av Egyptens land, av trælehuset.
7Thou shalt have none other gods before me.
7Du skal ikke ha andre guder foruten mig.
8Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:
8Du skal ikke gjøre dig noget utskåret billede, nogen avbildning av det som er oppe i himmelen, eller av det som er nede på jorden, eller av det som er i vannet nedenfor jorden.
9Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,
9Du skal ikke tilbede dem og ikke tjene dem; for jeg, Herren din Gud, er en nidkjær Gud, som hjemsøker fedres misgjerning på barn, på dem i tredje og på dem i fjerde ledd, på dem som hater mig,
10And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.
10og som gjør miskunnhet mot tusen ledd, mot dem som elsker mig og holder mine bud.
11Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
11Du skal ikke misbruke Herrens, din Guds navn; for Herren vil ikke holde den uskyldig som misbruker hans navn.
12Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.
12Ta hviledagen i akt så du holder den hellig, således som Herren din Gud har befalt dig!
13Six days thou shalt labor, and do all thy work:
13Seks dager skal du arbeide og gjøre all din gjerning.
14But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.
14Men den syvende dag er sabbat for Herren din Gud; da skal du intet arbeid gjøre, hverken du eller din sønn eller din datter eller din tjener eller din tjenestepike eller din okse eller ditt asen eller noget av dine dyr eller den fremmede som er hos dig innen dine porter, forat din tjener og din tjenestepike kan få hvile likesom du.
15And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.
15For du skal komme i hu at du selv var tjener i Egyptens land, og at Herren din Gud førte dig ut derfra med sterk hånd og utrakt arm; derfor har Herren din Gud befalt dig å holde sabbatsdagen.
16Honor thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
16Hedre din far og din mor, således som Herren din Gud har befalt dig, så dine dager må bli mange, og det må gå dig vel i det land Herren din Gud gir dig.
17Thou shalt not kill.
17Du skal ikke slå ihjel.
18Neither shalt thou commit adultery.
18Og du skal ikke drive hor.
19Neither shalt thou steal.
19Og du skal ikke stjele.
20Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbor.
20Og du skal ikke si falskt vidnesbyrd mot din næste.
21Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbor's wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbor's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbor's.
21Og du skal ikke begjære din næstes hustru. Og du skal ikke begjære din næstes hus, hans jord eller hans tjener eller hans tjenestepike, hans okse eller hans asen eller noget som hører din næste til.
22These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.
22Disse ord talte Herren på fjellet med høi røst til hele eders menighet midt ut av ilden, skyen og mørket og la intet til, og han skrev dem på to stentavler og gav mig dem.
23And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;
23Men da I hørte røsten midt ut av mørket, mens fjellet stod i brennende lue, da kom I til mig, alle overhodene for eders stammer og eders eldste,
24And ye said, Behold, the LORD our God hath showed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.
24og I sa: Se, Herren vår Gud har latt oss skue sin herlighet og sin storhet, og vi har hørt hans røst midt ut av ilden; på denne dag har vi sett at Gud kan tale med et menneske, og det allikevel blir i live.
25Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.
25Hvorfor skal vi da dø? For denne store ild vil fortære oss; dersom vi ennu lenger skal høre Herrens, vår Guds røst, må vi dø.
26For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?
26For hvem er der på hele jorden som har hørt den levende Guds røst tale midt ut av ilden som vi, og allikevel er blitt i live?
27Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.
27Gå du nær til og hør alt det Herren vår Gud sier, så kan du tale til oss alt det Herren vår Gud taler til dig, og vi vil høre på det og gjøre efter det.
28And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken.
28Og Herren hørte eders ord da I talte til mig, og Herren sa til mig: Jeg har hørt de ord som dette folk har talt til dig; de har talt vel i alt de har sagt.
29O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!
29Måtte de bare alle dager ha det samme hjertelag til å frykte mig og ta vare på alle mine bud, så det kan gå dem og deres barn vel til evig tid!
30Go say to them, Get you into your tents again.
30Gå og si til dem: Vend tilbake til eders telter!
31But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.
31Men stå du her hos mig, så vil jeg tale til dig alle de bud og lover og forskrifter som du skal lære dem, og som de skal leve efter i det land jeg gir dem til eie.
32Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
32Så akt nu på det som Herren eders Gud har befalt eder, og gjør efter det! I skal ikke vike av, hverken til høire eller til venstre.
33Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
33På hele den vei Herren eders Gud har befalt eder, skal I vandre, så I må leve, og det må gå eder vel, og eders dager bli mange i det land I skal ta i eie.
