¹In the seventh month, in the one and twentieth day of the month, came the word of the LORD by the prophet Haggai, saying,

¹I den syvende måned, på den en og tyvende dag i måneden, kom Herrens ord ved profeten Haggai, og det lød så:

²Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,

²Si til Serubabel, Sealtiels sønn, stattholderen over Juda, og til Josva, Jehosadaks sønn, ypperstepresten, og til dem som er igjen av folket:

³Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?

³Har nogen blandt eder som er blitt igjen, sett dette hus i dets første herlighet? Og hvad synes I om det nu? Er det ikke som ingenting i eders øine?

⁴Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: for I am with you, saith the LORD of hosts:

⁴Men vær nu frimodig, Serubabel, sier Herren, vær frimodig, Josva, Jehosadaks sønn, du yppersteprest, vær frimodig, alt landets folk, sier Herren, og arbeid! For jeg er med eder, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud.

⁵According to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so my spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not.

⁵Den pakt jeg gjorde med eder da I drog ut av Egypten, skal stå fast, og min Ånd skal bo blandt eder; frykt ikke!

⁶For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;

⁶For så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Ennu én gang, om en liten stund, vil jeg ryste himmelen og jorden og havet og det tørre land.

⁷And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.

⁷Og jeg vil ryste alle folkene, og alle folkenes kostelige skatter skal komme hit, og jeg vil fylle dette hus med herlighet, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud.

⁸The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.

⁸Mig hører sølvet, og mig hører gullet til, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud.

⁹The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.

⁹Dette siste hus skal bli herligere enn det første, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud; og på dette sted vil jeg gi fred, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud.

¹⁰In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,

¹⁰På den fire og tyvende dag i den niende måned i Darius' annet år kom Herrens ord ved profeten Haggai, og det lød så:

¹¹Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,

¹¹Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Spør prestene om loven og si:

¹²If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.

¹²Om nogen bærer hellig kjøtt i folden av sin kappe og med den kommer nær noget brød eller noget kokt eller vin eller olje eller noget slags mat, blir det da hellig? Prestene svarte: Nei.

¹³Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.

¹³Så sa Haggai: Om en som er blitt uren ved lik, kommer nær noget av dette, blir det da urent? Prestene svarte: Ja, det blir urent.

¹⁴Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.

¹⁴Da tok Haggai til orde og sa: Således er det med dette folk, og således er det med disse mennesker i mine øine, sier Herren, og således er det med all deres henders gjerning; og det de ofrer der*, det er urent. / {* på alteret; ESR 3, 3.}

¹⁵And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD:

¹⁵Og gi nu akt på tiden fra denne dag og tilbake, før det blev lagt sten på sten i Herrens tempel!

¹⁶Since those days were, when one came to an heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty.

¹⁶Kom nogen i den tid til en haug med kornbånd som han tenkte skulde gi tyve mål, så blev det bare ti; kom nogen til persekaret for å øse op femti spann, så blev det bare tyve.

¹⁷I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith the LORD.

¹⁷Jeg slo eder med kornbrand og rust og hagl i all eders henders gjerning; men I vendte eder ikke til mig, sier Herren.

¹⁸Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD's temple was laid, consider it.

¹⁸Gi da akt på tiden fra denne dag og tilbake, fra den fire og tyvende dag i den niende måned like til den dag da Herrens tempel blev grunnlagt! Gi akt!

¹⁹Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree, hath not brought forth: from this day will I bless you.

¹⁹Er det ennu sæd i kornboden? Ennu har hverken vintreet eller fikentreet eller granatepletreet eller oljetreet båret noget. Men fra denne dag vil jeg velsigne.

²⁰And again the word of the LORD came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying,

²⁰Og Herrens ord kom annen gang til Haggai på den fire og tyvende dag i måneden, og det lød så:

²¹Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth;

²¹Si til Serubabel, stattholderen over Juda: Jeg vil ryste himmelen og jorden,

²²And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.

²²og jeg vil omstyrte kongerikers troner og tilintetgjøre hedningerikenes makt; jeg vil velte vognene og dem som kjører på dem, og hestene skal styrte, og de som rider på dem; den ene skal falle for den andres sverd.

²³In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the LORD, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the LORD of hosts.

²³På den dag, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, vil jeg ta dig, Serubabel, Sealtiels sønn, min tjener, sier Herren, og gjøre med dig som med en signetring; for dig har jeg utvalgt, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud.
