¹Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

¹Derfor er du uten undskyldning, menneske, hvem du enn er som dømmer. For idet du dømmer din næste, fordømmer du dig selv; for du gjør det samme, du som dog dømmer;

²But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

²men vi vet at Guds dom, som sannhet byder, er over dem som gjør slikt.

³And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

³Men mener du det, du menneske, du som dømmer dem som gjør slikt, og selv gjør det, at du skal undfly Guds dom?

⁴Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

⁴Eller forakter du hans godhets og tålmods og langmods rikdom, og vet ikke at Guds godhet driver dig til omvendelse?

⁵But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

⁵Ved din hårdhet og ditt ubotferdige hjerte ophoper du dig vrede på vredens dag, den dag da Guds rettferdige dom åpenbares,

⁶Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

⁶han som skal betale enhver efter hans gjerninger:

⁷To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

⁷dem som med utholdenhet i god gjerning søker herlighet og ære og uforgjengelighet, skal han gi evig liv,

⁸But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

⁸men dem som er gjenstridige og ulydige mot sannheten, men lydige mot urettferdigheten, dem skal times vrede og harme.

⁹Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

⁹Trengsel og angst skal komme over hver menneskesjel som gjør det onde, både jøde først og så greker;

¹⁰But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

¹⁰men herlighet og ære og fred skal times hver den som gjør det gode, både jøde først og så greker.

¹¹For there is no respect of persons with God.

¹¹For Gud gjør ikke forskjell på folk:

¹²For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

¹²alle som syndet uten loven, skal også gå fortapt uten loven, og alle som syndet under loven, skal dømmes ved loven;

¹³(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

¹³for ikke de som hører loven, er rettferdige for Gud, men de som gjør efter loven, skal bli rettferdiggjort.

¹⁴For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

¹⁴For når hedningene, som ikke har loven, av naturen gjør det loven byder, da er disse, som dog ikke har loven, sig selv en lov;

¹⁵Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

¹⁵de viser at lovens gjerning er skrevet i deres hjerter, idet også deres samvittighet gir sitt vidnesbyrd, og deres tanker innbyrdes anklager eller også forsvarer dem -

¹⁶In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

¹⁶på den dag da Gud skal dømme det skjulte hos menneskene efter mitt evangelium ved Jesus Kristus.

¹⁷Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,

¹⁷Men om du kalles jøde og setter din lit til loven og roser dig av Gud

¹⁸And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;

¹⁸og kjenner hans vilje og dømmer om de forskjellige ting, idet du lærer av loven,

¹⁹And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,

¹⁹og trøster dig til å være en veiviser for blinde, et lys for dem som er i mørke,

²⁰An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.

²⁰en opdrager for dårer, en lærer for umyndige, da du har den rette form for kunnskap og sannhet i loven:

²¹Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?

²¹du som altså lærer en annen, lærer du ikke dig selv? du som preker at en ikke skal stjele, stjeler du?

²²Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?

²²du som sier at en ikke skal drive hor, driver du hor? du som har motbydelighet for avgudene, raner du avgudenes templer?

²³Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?

²³Du som roser dig av loven, du vanærer Gud ved å bryte loven!

²⁴For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.

²⁴For for eders skyld spottes Guds navn blandt hedningene, som skrevet er.

²⁵For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.

²⁵For omskjærelsen har vel sin nytte om du holder loven; men er du en lov-bryter, da er din omskjærelse blitt til forhud.

²⁶Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?

²⁶Om altså den uomskårne holder lovens bud, skal da ikke hans forhud bli regnet som omskjærelse?

²⁷And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?

²⁷Og den av naturen uomskårne som opfyller loven, skal dømme dig, du som med bokstav og omskjærelse er en lov-bryter.

²⁸For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

²⁸For ikke den er jøde som er det i det åpenbare; heller ikke er det omskjærelse som skjer i det åpenbare, på kjøttet;

²⁹But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

²⁹men den som er jøde i det skjulte, han er jøde, og omskjærelsen er hjertets omskjærelse i Ånden, ikke i bokstaven; en sådan har sin ros, ikke av mennesker, men av Gud.
