¹Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

¹ فلسطینی‌ها در دامنه کوه جلبوع با اسرائیل جنگ کردند، بسیاری از اسرائیلی‌ها در آنجا کشته شدند و بقیّهٔ آنها با شائول و پسرانش گریختند.

²And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.

² امّا فلسطینی‌ها به آنها رسیدند و سه پسر شائول، یوناتان، ابیناداب و ملکیشوع را کشتند.

³And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers.

³ نبرد سختی در اطراف شائول در گرفت، کمانداران او را یافتند و او با تیر ایشان زخمی شد.

⁴Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

⁴ شائول به جوانی که اسلحه او را حمل می‌کرد گفت: «شمشیر خود را درآور و مرا بکُش تا این فلسطینی‌های کافر مرا تحقیر نکنند.» امّا مرد جوان بسیار ترسیده بود و چنین نکرد. پس شائول شمشیر کشید و خود را به روی آن انداخت.

⁵And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.

⁵ هنگامی‌که مرد جوان دید شائول مرده است، خود را بر روی شمشیر خود انداخت و مرد.

⁶So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.

⁶ پس شائول و سه پسرش و همهٔ خاندان او با هم کشته شدند.

⁷And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

⁷ هنگامی‌که اسرائیلی‌هایی که در دشت یزرعیل زندگی می‌کردند، شنیدند که ارتش گریخته و شائول و پسرانش درگذشته‌اند شهرها را رها کردند و گریختند. آنگاه فلسطینی‌ها آمدند و شهرها را اشغال کردند.

⁸And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

⁸ فردای آن روز، هنگامی‌که فلسطینی‌ها برای لخت کردن کشته‌شدگان آمدند، جسد شائول و پسرانش را که در کوه جلبوع افتاده بود پیدا کردند.

⁹And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings unto their idols, and to the people.

⁹ فلسطینی‌ها جسد شائول را لخت کردند و سر او و زره‌اش را برداشتند و قاصدانی به سراسر سرزمین فلسطین فرستادند تا خبر خوش را برای بُتهایشان و مردم ببرند.

¹⁰And they put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.

¹⁰ ایشان زره شائول را در پرستشگاه خدایان خود و سرش را در پرستشگاه بت داجون قرار دادند.

¹¹And when all Jabeshgilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

¹¹ هنگامی‌که مردم یابیش در جلعاد شنیدند که فلسطینی‌ها با شائول چه کرده‌اند.

¹²They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

¹² شجاعترین مردان ایشان رفتند و اجساد شائول و پسرانش را به یابیش آوردند و ایشان بدنهای آنها را زیر درخت بلوطی به خاک سپردند و هفت روز روزه گرفتند.

¹³So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;

¹³ شائول مرد زیرا به خداوند وفادار نبود. او از فرمانهای خداوند سرپیچی کرد. او سعی کرد از ارواح مردگان راهنمایی بگیرد. و از خداوند راهنمایی نخواست. در نتیجه خداوند او را کشت و پادشاهی را به داوود پسر یَسی داد.

¹⁴And inquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

¹⁴ و از خداوند راهنمایی نخواست. در نتیجه خداوند او را کشت و پادشاهی را به داوود پسر یَسی داد.
