¹And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the LORD unto Bethel: and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.

¹ به فرمان خداوند نبی‌ای از یهودا به بیت‌ئیل رفت و هنگامی‌که یربعام در برابر قربانگاه ایستاده بود تا قربانی تقدیم کند، به آنجا رسید.

²And he cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men's bones shall be burnt upon thee.

² او بنا به فرمان خداوند به قربانگاه گفت: «ای قربانگاه، ای قربانگاه، خداوند چنین می‌فرماید: کودکی به نام یوشیا در خاندان داوود به دنیا خواهد آمد. او کاهنانی را که بر روی تو بُخور می‌سوزانند، قربانی خواهد کرد و استخوان انسان را در روی تو خواهد سوزانید.»

³And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This is the sign which the LORD hath spoken; Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.

³ سپس ادامه داده گفت: «این قربانگاه ویران خواهد شد و خاکسترهای آن پراکنده خواهند گشت. آنگاه خواهید دانست كه آنچه می‌گویم از جانب خداوند است.»

⁴And it came to pass, when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had cried against the altar in Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.

⁴ هنگامی‌که پادشاه این سخنان را شنید دست خود را از قربانگاه به طرف او دراز کرد و گفت: «او را دستگیر کنید.» دستی را که دراز کرده بود، چنان خشک شد که او نمی‌توانست آن را به سوی خود جمع کند.

⁵The altar also was rent, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.

⁵ قربانگاه ویران شد و خاکسترهای آن بیرون ریخت همان‌طور که مرد خدا طبق کلام خداوند پیشگویی کرده بود.

⁶And the king answered and said unto the man of God, Entreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again. And the man of God besought the LORD, and the king's hand was restored him again, and became as it was before.

⁶ ‌پادشاه به نبی گفت: «خواهش می‌کنم برای من نزد خداوند خدای خود دعا کن تا دست مرا شفا دهد.» مرد خدا در نزد خداوند دعا کرد و دست او شفا یافت و مانند سابق شد.

⁷And the king said unto the man of God, Come home with me, and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a reward.

⁷ آنگاه پادشاه به مرد خدا گفت: «با من به خانه بیا و غذایی بخور و من پاداش تو را خواهم داد.»

⁸And the man of God said unto the king, If thou wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place:

⁸ مرد خدا به پادشاه پاسخ داد: «اگر نیمی از خانهٔ خود را به من بدهی من با تو وارد آن نخواهم شد و من در اینجا نان نخواهم خورد و آب نخواهم نوشید.

⁹For so was it charged me by the word of the LORD, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest.

⁹ خداوند به من فرمان داده است که در اینجا نان نخورم و آب ننوشم و از راهی که آمده‌ام باز نگردم.»

¹⁰So he went another way, and returned not by the way that he came to Bethel.

¹⁰ پس او از راه دیگری رفت و از راهی که به بیت‌ئیل آمده بود بازنگشت.

¹¹Now there dwelt an old prophet in Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel: the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father.

¹¹ در آن زمان نبی پیری در بیت‌ئیل زندگی می‌کرد. پسرهایش آمدند و برای او تعریف كردند که نبی یهودا در آن روز در بیت‌ئیل چه کرده و به یربعام پادشاه چه گفته است.

¹²And their father said unto them, What way went he? For his sons had seen what way the man of God went, which came from Judah.

¹² پدر ایشان پرسید: «از چه راهی رفت؟» پسرانش به او نشان دادند نبی‌ای که از یهودا آمده بود، از چه راهی بازگشت.

¹³And he said unto his sons, Saddle me the ass. So they saddled him the ass: and he rode thereon,

¹³ پس به پسرانش گفت: «الاغ مرا حاضر كنید» پسرانش الاغ را حاضر كردند و او سوار شده

¹⁴And went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak: and he said unto him, Art thou the man of God that camest from Judah? And he said, I am.

¹⁴ و به دنبال مرد خدا به راه افتاد و او را که در زیر درخت بلوطی نشسته بود، پیدا کرد و از او پرسید، «آیا تو مرد خدا اهل یهودا هستی؟» او پاسخ داد: «من هستم.»

¹⁵Then he said unto him, Come home with me, and eat bread.

¹⁵ به او گفت: «با من به خانه بیا و غذا بخور.»

¹⁶And he said, I may not return with thee, nor go in with thee: neither will I eat bread nor drink water with thee in this place:

¹⁶ مرد خدا گفت: «من نمی‌توانم بر گردم و به خانهٔ تو بیایم و نمی‌‌توانم آنجا نان بخورم و آب بنوشم.

¹⁷For it was said to me by the word of the LORD, Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest.

¹⁷ زیرا خداوند به من امر کرده است: تو نباید آنجا نان بخوری یا آب بنوشی و از راهی که آمده‌ای بازگردی.»

¹⁸He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him.

¹⁸ آنگاه نبی پیر بیت‌ئیل به او گفت: «من نیز مانند تو نبی هستم و فرشته از طرف خداوند به من گفت که تو را با خود به خانه ببرم و از تو پذیرایی کنم.» امّا نبی پیر دروغ می‌گفت.

¹⁹So he went back with him, and did eat bread in his house, and drank water.

¹⁹ پس او به خانهٔ نبی پیر رفت و در خانه‌اش نان خورد و آب نوشید.

²⁰And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came unto the prophet that brought him back:

²⁰ هنگامی‌که آنها بر سفره نشسته بودند، کلام خداوند بر نبی پیری که او را بازگردانده بود آمد.

²¹And he cried unto the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the LORD, and hast not kept the commandment which the LORD thy God commanded thee,

²¹ نبی پیر فریاد برآورد و به نبی اهل یهودا گفت: «خداوند می‌فرماید چون تو از کلام خداوند سرپیچی کردی و دستورات خداوند خدایت را نگاه نداشتی،

²²But camest back, and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place, of the which the Lord did say to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy carcass shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers.

²² چون تو بازگشتی و در آنجا نان خوردی و آب نوشیدی درحالی‌که او به تو گفت: 'نان نخور و آب ننوش' پس بدن تو در گورستان نیاکانت به خاک سپرده نخواهد شد.»

²³And it came to pass, after he had eaten bread, and after he had drunk, that he saddled for him the ass, to wit, for the prophet whom he had brought back.

²³ بعد از صرف غذا، نبی پیر الاغ نبی یهودا را حاضر کرد.

²⁴And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him: and his carcass was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the carcass.

²⁴ نبی یهودا سوار شده به راه خود رفت. امّا در راه شیری به او حمله کرد و او را کشت. جسد او در جاده افتاده بود و الاغ و شیر در کنارش ایستاده بودند.

²⁵And, behold, men passed by, and saw the carcass cast in the way, and the lion standing by the carcass: and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.

²⁵ مردمی که از آنجا می‌گذشتند، جسد را در راه و شیری که در کنارش بود، دیدند. پس به شهری که نبی پیر زندگی می‌کرد، خبر آوردند.

²⁶And when the prophet that brought him back from the way heard thereof, he said, It is the man of God, who was disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him.

²⁶ هنگامی‌که نبی پیر شنید، گفت: «این نبی از فرمان خداوند سرپیچی کرد، پس خداوند شیر را فرستاد تا به او حمله کند و او را بکشد، همان‌طور که خداوند گفته بود.»

²⁷And he spake to his sons, saying, Saddle me the ass. And they saddled him.

²⁷ آنگاه به پسران خود گفت: «الاغی را برای من حاضر کنید» و آنها چنین کردند.

²⁸And he went and found his carcass cast in the way, and the ass and the lion standing by the carcass: the lion had not eaten the carcass, nor torn the ass.

²⁸ سپس او رفت و جسد را که در راه افتاده بود، یافت درحالی‌که الاغ و شیر کنارش ایستاده بودند. شیر نه جسد را خورده بود و نه به الاغ حمله کرده بود.

²⁹And the prophet took up the carcass of the man of God, and laid it upon the ass, and brought it back: and the old prophet came to the city, to mourn and to bury him.

²⁹ نبی پیر جسد را برداشت و بر روی الاغ گذاشت و به بیت‌ئیل بازگشت تا سوگواری کند و او را به خاک بسپارد.

³⁰And he laid his carcass in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, Alas, my brother!

³⁰ او جسد را در گورستان خانواد‌گی‌اش به خاک سپرد و برای او سوگواری کرده و می‌گفتند: «وای ای برادر من، وای ای برادر من!»

³¹And it came to pass, after he had buried him, that he spake to his sons, saying, When I am dead, then bury me in the sepulchre wherein the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones:

³¹ بعد از به خاک سپردن، مرد خدا به پسرانش گفت: «هنگامی‌که من مُردم مرا در گوری که مرد خدا به خاک سپرده شد، دفن کنید و استخوانهای مرا پهلوی استخوانهای او بگذارید.

³²For the saying which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.

³² سخنانی که او به فرمان خداوند علیه قربانگاه در بیت‌ئیل و علیه همهٔ پرستشگاهها در شهرهای سامره گفت، به حقیقت خواهند پیوست.»

³³After this thing Jeroboam returned not from his evil way, but made again of the lowest of the people priests of the high places: whosoever would, he consecrated him, and he became one of the priests of the high places.

³³ بعد از این وقایع، یربعام از کارهای پلید خود دست برنداشت و از میان همهٔ مردم، کاهنان برای پرستشگاههای بالای تپّه‌ها می‌گماشت. او هرکسی را که می‌خواست کاهن شود، به کهانت می‌گماشت. ‌این گناه او باعث ویرانی و نابودی کامل خاندان او شد.

³⁴And this thing became sin unto the house of Jeroboam, even to cut it off, and to destroy it from off the face of the earth.
