¹And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

¹ ایلیای تشبی، از اهالی جلعاد به اخاب پادشاه گفت: «به نام خداوند خدای زندهٔ اسرائیل، که من خدمتگزار او هستم، به شما می‌گویم در چند سال آینده، نه شبنمی‌ خواهد بود و نه باران خواهد بارید، مگر من بگویم!»

²And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

² کلام خداوند بر وی آمد و گفت:

³Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

³ «از اینجا به سوی شرق برو و در نزدیکی وادی کَریت که در شرق ‌رود اردن است پنهان شو.

⁴And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

⁴ از آب جوی بنوش و من به زاغها فرمان داده‌ام تا برای تو خوراک بیاورند.»

⁵So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

⁵ پس ایلیا طبق فرمان خداوند رفت و در نزدیکی وادی کریت، در شرق اردن به سر برد.

⁶And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

⁶ او از جوی، آب می‌نوشید و زاغها صبح و شام برایش نان و گوشت می‌آوردند.

⁷And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

⁷ بعد از مدّتی به علّت نبودن باران نهر خشک شد.

⁸And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

⁸ سپس خداوند به ایلیا فرمود:

⁹Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

⁹ «اکنون به شهر صَرَفه که در نزدیکی شهر صیدون است برو و در آنجا بمان. من به بیوه زنی در آنجا فرمان داده‌ام تا به تو خوراک دهد.»

¹⁰So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

¹⁰ پس او برخاست و به صرفه رفت. هنگامی‌که به دروازهٔ شهر رسید، بیوه زنی را دید که هیزم جمع می‌کرد. او به بیوه‌زن گفت: «خواهش می‌کنم کمی ‌آب به من بدهید.»

¹¹And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

¹¹ هنگامی‌که زن برای آوردن آب می‌رفت او را صدا کرد و گفت: «خواهش می‌کنم تکه نانی هم برای من بیاور.»

¹²And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

¹² او پاسخ داد: «به خداوند زنده، خدای تو سوگند، که من نانی ندارم. آنچه دارم یک مشت آرد در کاسه و کمی‌ روغن زیتون در کوزه است. من به اینجا آمدم تا کمی هیزم جمع کنم و به خانه ببرم تا برای پسرم و خودم آن را بپزم و این آخرین خوراک ما خواهد بود و ما از گرسنگی خواهیم مُرد.»

¹³And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

¹³ ایلیا به او گفت: «نگران نباش. به خانه برو و آنچه را که گفتی انجام بده، امّا ابتدا یک نان کوچک از آنچه داری برای من بپز و برای من بیاور و پس از آن برای خودت و پسرت خوراکی آماده کن.

¹⁴For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.

¹⁴ چون خداوند خدای اسرائیل می‌گوید: 'تا زمانی که خداوند باران بفرستد نه کاسهٔ تو از آرد خالی خواهد شد و نه کوزهٔ تو از روغن.'»

¹⁵And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

¹⁵ بیوه‌زن رفت و آنچه را ایلیا گفته بود، انجام داد و همهٔ آنها برای چندین روز غذای کافی داشتند.

¹⁶And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.

¹⁶ همان‌گونه که خداوند به وسیلهٔ ایلیا وعده داده بود، نه کاسه از آرد خالی شد و نه کوزه از روغن تهی گشت.

¹⁷And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.

¹⁷ چند روز بعد پسر بیوه‌زن بیمار شد. حال او بدتر و بدتر شد و عاقبت مرد.

¹⁸And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?

¹⁸ بیوه‌زن به ایلیا گفت: «ای مرد خدا، چرا با من چنین کردی؟ آیا تو به اینجا آمده‌ای که گناهان مرا به خداوند یاد‌آوری کنی و باعث مرگ پسرم شوی؟»

¹⁹And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

¹⁹ ایلیا به او گفت: «پسرت را به من بده.» ایلیا پسرش را از آغوش او گرفت و او را به بالا خانه، در اتاقی که زندگی می‌کرد برد و در بستر خواباند.

²⁰And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

²⁰ آنگاه او با صدای بلند دعا کرد: «ای خداوند خدای من! چرا چنین بلای وحشتناکی بر سر این بیوه‌زن آورده‌ای؟ او مرا در خانه‌اش پناه داده و حالا تو باعث مرگ پسر او شده‌ای.»

²¹And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.

²¹ سپس ایلیا سه بار روی جسد دراز کشید و چنین دعا کرد: «ای خداوند خدای من، این کودک را زنده گردان.»

²²And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

²² خداوند دعای ایلیا را پاسخ داد، کودک حیات دوباره یافت و زنده شد.

²³And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.

²³ ایلیا کودک را برداشت و پایین نزد مادرش برد و گفت: «ببین، پسر تو زنده است.» زن به ایلیا گفت: «حالا می‌دانم که تو مرد خدا هستی و هرچه می‌گویی، از جانب خداوند است و حقیقت دارد.»

²⁴And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.

²⁴ زن به ایلیا گفت: «حالا می‌دانم که تو مرد خدا هستی و هرچه می‌گویی، از جانب خداوند است و حقیقت دارد.»
