¹Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshingfloors.

¹ یک روز به داوود خبر رسید که فلسطینیان به شهر قعیله حمله کرده و خرمنهای آنها را غارت کرده‌اند.

²Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.

² داوود از خداوند پرسید: «می‌خواهی بروم و به فلسطینیان حمله کنم؟» خداوند به داوود فرمود: «بلی، برو و آنها را شکست بده و قعیله را آزاد کن.»

³And David's men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?

³ امّا همراهان داوود گفتند: «ما در اینجا در یهودیه در ترس و بیم به سر می‌بریم، پس چطور می‌توانیم به قعیله برویم و با لشکر فلسطینیان بجنگیم؟»

⁴Then David inquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand.

⁴ آنگاه داوود دوباره از خداوند سؤال کرد و خداوند جواب داد: «برخیز و به قعیله برو. من به تو کمک می‌کنم که فلسطینیان را شکست بدهی.»

⁵So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.

⁵ پس داوود و مردان او به قعیله رفتند و با فلسطینیان جنگیدند و تلفات سنگین جانی به آنها رساندند و رمه و گلّهٔ آنها را تاراج کرده با خود آوردند و به این ترتیب داوود مردم قعیله را نجات داد.

⁶And it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.

⁶ وقتی‌که ابیاتار، پسر اخیملک نزد داوود به قعیله فرار کرد، جامهٔ مخصوص کاهنان را با خود برد.

⁷And it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into mine hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars.

⁷ کسی به شائول خبر داد که داوود به قعیله آمده است. شائول گفت: «خداوند او را به دست من داده است، زیرا با آمدن به داخل چهار دیوار این شهر، خودش را به دام انداخته است.»

⁸And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.

⁸ پس شائول همهٔ سپاهیان خود را جمع کرد تا به قعلیه لشکرکشی کنند و داوود و همراهان او را دستگیر نمایند.

⁹And David knew that Saul secretly practiced mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod.

⁹ هنگامی‌که داوود شنید که شائول می‌خواهد به او حمله کند، به ابیاتار کاهن گفت: «جامهٔ مخصوص کاهنان را نزد من بیاور.»

¹⁰Then said David, O LORD God of Israel, thy servant hath certainly heard that Saul seeketh to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.

¹⁰ آنگاه داوود دعا کرده گفت: «ای خداوند خدای اسرائیل، بنده‌ات شنیده‌ام که شائول خیال دارد به قعیله حمله کند و به‌خاطر من شهر را خراب کند.

¹¹Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O LORD God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And the LORD said, He will come down.

¹¹ آیا مردم قعیله مرا به دست او تسلیم می‌کنند؟ آیا همان‌طور که شنیده‌ام شائول به اینجا می‌آید؟ ای خداوند خدای اسرائیل، تمنّا می‌کنم که به من جواب بده.» خداوند فرمود: «بلی، شائول به اینجا می‌آید.»

¹²Then said David, Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul? And the LORD said, They will deliver thee up.

¹² داوود پرسید: «آیا مردم قعیله مرا و همراهانم را به دست شائول تسلیم می‌کنند؟» خداوند جواب داد: «بلی، تسلیم می‌کنند.»

¹³Then David and his men, which were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he forbare to go forth.

¹³ آنگاه داوود با مردان خود که تعدادشان در حدود ششصد نفر بود از قعیله حرکت کردند و شهر به شهر می‌گشتند. چون شائول آگاه شد که داوود فرار کرده است از رفتن به قعیله دست کشید.

¹⁴And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.

¹⁴ هنگامی‌که داوود در بیابان در کوهستان‌های زیف به سر می‌برد، شائول همه روزه در تعقیب او بود، ولی خداوند نمی‌خواست که داوود به دست شائول بیفتد.

¹⁵And David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life: and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in a wood.

¹⁵ داوود در جنگل حارث بود که شنید شائول برای کشتن او آمده بود.

¹⁶And Jonathan Saul's son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.

¹⁶ در همان وقتی‌که داوود در بیابان زیف بود، یوناتان، پسر شائول برای دیدن او به آنجا رفت و او را تشویق کرد که به حمایت خداوند اطمینان داشته باشد.

¹⁷And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth.

¹⁷ او گفت: «نترس! زیرا پدرم، شائول هرگز به تو صدمه‌ای نخواهد زد. تو به مقام سلطنت در اسرائیل می‌رسی و من شخص دوم در دربار تو خواهم شد. و پدرم هم این را می‌داند.»

¹⁸And they two made a covenant before the LORD: and David abode in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house.

¹⁸ پس هردوی ایشان، پیمان دوستی خود را تازه کردند. داوود در جنگل ماند و یوناتان به خانهٔ خود برگشت.

¹⁹Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon?

¹⁹ بعضی از اهالی زیف نزد شائول در جبعه رفتند و به او گفتند: «داوود در نواحی جنوب یهودیه در غارهای حارث در کوههای حخیله به سر می‌برد.

²⁰Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down; and our part shall be to deliver him into the king's hand.

²⁰ ای پادشاه، می‌دانیم که شما چقدر مشتاق دستگیری او هستید؛ پس هر زمان که مایل هستید با ما بیایید و ما وظیفهٔ خود می‌دانیم که او را به دست شما تسلیم کنیم.»

²¹And Saul said, Blessed be ye of the LORD; for ye have compassion on me.

²¹ شائول گفت: «خداوند به شما برکت بدهد که این‌قدر با من مهربان هستید.

²²Go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who hath seen him there: for it is told me that he dealeth very subtilly.

²² بروید بیشتر تحقیق کنید تا مطمئن شوید و پناهگاه دقیق او را معلوم کنید و بپرسید که چه کسی او را دیده است؛ زیرا شنیده‌ام که او خیلی حیله‌گر است.

²³See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Judah.

²³ وقتی مخفیگاه او را پیدا کردید به من اطّلاع دهید بعد من همراه شما می‌آیم و اگر در این سرزمین باشد، حتّی اگر لازم باشد تمام سرزمین یهودیه را جستجو کنم، او را پیدا می‌کنم.»

²⁴And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of Jeshimon.

²⁴ آنگاه همه برخاستند و قبل از شائول به زیف برگشتند. در این وقت داوود و همراهان او در بیابان معون واقع در عربه در جنوب صحرا بودند.

²⁵Saul also and his men went to seek him. And they told David; wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.

²⁵ و شائول و مردان او به تعقیب او رفتند. وقتی داوود از آمدن شائول به زیف آگاه شد، او و همراهانش به طرف صخره‌های کوههای معون رفتند و در آنجا ماندند. وقتی شائول این را شنید به تعقیب او رفت.

²⁶And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David made haste to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them.

²⁶ اکنون شائول در یک طرف کوه بود و داوود در طرف دیگر. هرقدر که داوود و همراهانش عجله می‌کردند که از شائول دورتر شوند، شائول و مردانش برای دستگیری آنها، نزدیکتر می‌شدند.

²⁷But there came a messenger unto Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Philistines have invaded the land.

²⁷ در همین وقت قاصدی آمد و به شائول گفت: «فوراً بازگردید زیرا که فلسطینیان به کشور حمله کرده‌اند.»

²⁸Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Selahammahlekoth.

²⁸ پس شائول از تعقیب داوود دست برداشت و برای جنگ با فلسطینیان رفت. به همین دلیل آنجا را «کوه جدایی» نامیدند. داوود از آنجا رفت و در غارهای عین‌جدی ساکن گردید.

²⁹And David went up from thence, and dwelt in strong holds at Engedi.

²⁹ داوود از آنجا رفت و در غارهای عین‌جدی ساکن گردید.
