¹And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of the LORD, and all Israel with him.

¹ هنگامی‌که پادشاهی رحبعام استوار و نیرومند شد او و تمامی یهودا قوانین خداوند را ترک کردند.

²And it came to pass, that in the fifth year of king Rehoboam Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had transgressed against the LORD,

² در سال پنجم پادشاهی رحبعام، چون به خدا وفادار نبودند، شیشق، فرعون مصر علیه اورشلیم برخاست.

³With twelve hundred chariots, and threescore thousand horsemen: and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt; the Lubims, the Sukkiims, and the Ethiopians.

³ او با هزار و دویست ارّابه و شصت هزار سواره و همراه یا سربازان بی‌شمار لیبی‌یایی و سکیان و حبشی از مصر آمد.

⁴And he took the fenced cities which pertained to Judah, and came to Jerusalem.

⁴ او شهرهای دیواردار یهودا را تسخیر کرد و تا اورشلیم رسید.

⁵Then came Shemaiah the prophet to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Ye have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.

⁵ آنگاه شمعیای نبی نزد رحبعام و رهبران یهودا که به‌خاطر شیشق در اورشلیم جمع شده بودند، آمد و به ایشان گفت: «خداوند چنین می‌فرماید: شما مرا ترک کرده‌اید، پس من شما را در دست شیشق رها می‌کنم.»

⁶Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, The LORD is righteous.

⁶ آنگاه رهبران اسرائیل و پادشاه فروتن شدند و گفتند: «خداوند عادل است.»

⁷And when the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.

⁷ هنگامی‌که خداوند دید که ایشان فروتن شده‌اند، کلام خداوند بر شمعیا آمد و فرمود: «ایشان فروتن شده‌اند، من نابودشان نخواهم کرد و به ایشان رهایی خواهم داد. خشم من به دست شیشق بر اورشلیم فرود نخواهد آمد.

⁸Nevertheless they shall be his servants; that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.

⁸ با این وجود ایشان بندهٔ او خواهند شد تا تفاوت بین خدمت کردن به من و پادشاهان سرزمین‌‌های دیگر را بدانند.»

⁹So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house; he took all: he carried away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.

⁹ پس شیشق فرعون علیه اورشلیم برآمد. او خزانه‌های معبد بزرگ و کاخ پادشاه را با خود برد، او هرچه بود را برداشت. او همه‌چیز را، شامل سپرهایی طلایی که سلیمان ساخته بود، با خود برد.

¹⁰Instead of which king Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king's house.

¹⁰ امّا رحبعام پادشاه به جای آنها سپرهای برنزی ساخت و آنها را به دست نگهبانان دروازه‌های کاخ پادشاه داد.

¹¹And when the king entered into the house of the LORD, the guard came and fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.

¹¹ هرگاه پادشاه به معبد بزرگ می‌رفت، نگهبانان با او می‌آمدند و سپرها را می‌آوردند و سپس به اتاق نگهبانان باز می‌گرداندند.

¹²And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him, that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.

¹² چون او خود را فروتن کرد، خشم خداوند از او دور گشت و ایشان را کاملاً نابود نکرد و شرایط یهودا رو به خوبی بود.

¹³So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess.

¹³ رحبعام در اورشلیم پادشاهی نمود و قدرت خود را افزایش داد. هنگامی‌که رحبعام حکومت خود را آغاز کرد چهل و یک سال داشت. او هفده سال در اورشلیم، شهری که خداوند از میان طایفه‌های اسرائیل برگزید تا نام خود را بر آنجا بگذارد، حکومت کرد. مادرش نعمه عمونی نام داشت.

¹⁴And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.

¹⁴ او پلید کار بود زیرا دلش به دنبال خداوند نبود.

¹⁵Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not written in the book of Shemaiah the prophet, and of Iddo the seer concerning genealogies? And there were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.

¹⁵ شرح کارهای رحبعام از آغاز تا پایان در اسناد شمعیای نبی و عدوی رائی طبق شجره‌نامه نوشته شده‌اند. همواره رحبعام و یربعام با یکدیگر در جنگ بودند. رحبعام در گذشت و به نیاکان خود پیوست. او را در شهر داوود به خاک سپردند و پسرش ابیا جانشین او شد.

¹⁶And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David: and Abijah his son reigned in his stead.
