¹And when Saul's son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands were feeble, and all the Israelites were troubled.

¹ هنگامی که ایشبوشت، پسر شائول شنید که اَبنیر در حبرون کشته شده از ترس دستها و پاهایش سُست شدند و تمام مردم اسرائیل پریشان گشتند.

²And Saul's son had two men that were captains of bands: the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon a Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin: (for Beeroth also was reckoned to Benjamin.

² سپاه متهاجم اسرائیل تحت ادارهٔ دو افسر، به نامهای بعنه و ریکاب بود. این دو نفر پسران رِمون بئیروتی، از طایفهٔ بنیامین بودند. گرچه بئیروتیان به جتایم، محل سکونت کنونی خود فرار کرده بودند، امّا اصلاً از مردم بنیامین بودند.

³And the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and were sojourners there until this day.)

³ یوناتان پسر شائول، پسری داشت به نام مفیبوشت که هنگامی‌که شائول و یوناتان کشته شدند پنج سال داشت. وقتی خبر مرگ آنها در یزرعیل شنیده شد، پرستارش او را برداشت و فرار کرد، امّا به‌خاطر عجله‌ای که داشت او را انداخت و او لنگ شد.

⁴And Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.

⁴ پسران رِمون، یعنی بعنه و ریکاب، هنگام ظهر به خانهٔ ایشبوشت رسیدند. ایشبوشت در حال استراحت بود.

⁵And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, and came about the heat of the day to the house of Ishbosheth, who lay on a bed at noon.

⁵ زنی که دربان خانه بود گندم پاک می‌کرد، امّا لحظه‌ای بعد، از خستگی خوابش برد.

⁶And they came thither into the midst of the house, as though they would have fetched wheat; and they smote him under the fifth rib: and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.

⁶ هنگامی‌که داخل خانه شدند، به اتاق خواب ایشبوشت رفته او را در بسترش کشتند. بعد سرش را از تن جدا کردند و آن را با خود بردند، از راه دشت اردن تمام شب راه رفتند تا به حبرون رسیدند.

⁷For when they came into the house, he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, and they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and gat them away through the plain all night.

⁷ پس سر ایشبوشت را به حضور داوود برده گفتند: «سر ایشبوشت، پسر دشمنت شائول را که همیشه قصد کشتن تو را داشت، برایت آوردیم. خداوند انتقام سرور ما، پادشاه را از شائول و فرزندان او گرفت.»

⁸And they brought the head of Ishbosheth unto David to Hebron, and said to the king, Behold the head of Ishbosheth the son of Saul thine enemy, which sought thy life; and the LORD hath avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed.

⁸ امّا داوود جواب داد: «خداوندی که مرا از شر دشمنانم نجات داد شاهد است

⁹And David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said unto them, As the LORD liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity,

⁹ وقتی آن کسی‌که خبر مرگ شائول را برایم آورد و فکر می‌کرد که من از آن خبر شاد می‌شوم، او را در صقلغ کشتم و این چنین انعامِ خوش خبری‌اش را به او دادم.

¹⁰When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good tidings, I took hold of him, and slew him in Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward for his tidings:

¹⁰ پس می‌دانید کسی‌که یک شخص نیک و صالح را در بستر خوابش بکشد، چند برابر جزا می‌بیند؟ آیا فکر می‌کنید که انتقام خون او را از شما نمی‌گیرم و شما را از روی زمین محو نمی‌کنم؟» آنگاه به خادمان خود امر کرد که آن دو برادر را بکشند. آنها دستور او را بجا آوردند. بعد دست و پایشان را قطع کرده اجسادشان را در کنار برکهٔ حبرون به دار آویختند. سپس سر ایشبوشت را در آرامگاه اَبنیر در حبرون دفن کردند.

¹¹How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?

¹¹ آنگاه به خادمان خود امر کرد که آن دو برادر را بکشند. آنها دستور او را بجا آوردند. بعد دست و پایشان را قطع کرده اجسادشان را در کنار برکهٔ حبرون به دار آویختند. سپس سر ایشبوشت را در آرامگاه اَبنیر در حبرون دفن کردند.

¹²And David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up over the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth, and buried it in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron.
