¹And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to enquire of the LORD, and sat before me.

¹ در روزِ دهم از ماه پنجمِ سال هفتم تبعید ما، عدّه‌ای از رهبران اسرائیل آمدند و مقابل من نشستند تا از خداوند راهنمایی بطلبند.

²Then came the word of the LORD unto me, saying,

² آنگاه خداوند این پیام را به من داد:

³Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye come to enquire of me? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you.

³ «ای انسان فانی، به رهبران اسرائیل چنین بگو: خداوند، متعال می‌فرماید: چرا شما آمده‌اید از من راهنمایی می‌خواهید؟ به حیات خودم سوگند که هدایتی از من نخواهید یافت.

⁴Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge them? cause them to know the abominations of their fathers:

⁴ «تو ای انسان فانی، آیا آماده هستی که ایشان را محکوم کنی؟ پس آنان را متوجّه گناهان اجدادشان بساز.

⁵And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up mine hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up mine hand unto them, saying, I am the LORD your God;

⁵ آنچه به تو می‌گویم به ایشان بگو، هنگامی‌که اسرائیل را برگزیدم و خود را به ایشان در سرزمین مصر آشکار ساختم، وعده دادم و گفتم من خداوند، خدای شما هستم.

⁶In the day that I lifted up mine hand unto them, to bring them forth of the land of Egypt into a land that I had espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands:

⁶ آن موقع بود که سوگند خوردم که ایشان را از مصر بیرون آورم و به سرزمینی که برای ایشان برگزیده بودم ببرم، سرزمینی که غنی و حاصلخیز است و بهترین سرزمینهاست.

⁷Then said I unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

⁷ به ایشان گفتم که بُتهای منفوری را که دوست می‌دارند، دور بیندازند و خود را با خدایان مصری آلوده نکنند، زیرا من خداوند، خدا هستم.

⁸But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

⁸ امّا علیه من سرکشی کردند و به من گوش فرا ندادند، بُتهای نفرت‌انگیز خود و خدایان مصر را رها نکردند، آماده بودم که قدرت خشم مرا در مصر تجربه کنند.

⁹But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.

⁹ امّا به‌خاطر حفظ حرمت نام خود آن کار را نکردم، زیرا در حضور قومی که در میان ایشان زندگی می‌کردند، اعلام داشتم که قوم اسرائیل را از مصر بیرون می‌آورم.

¹⁰Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.

¹⁰ «پس آنها را از سرزمین مصر به بیابان آوردم.

¹¹And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them.

¹¹ فرامین خود را به ایشان دادم و قوانین خود را به ایشان آموختم که به هرکس از آنها پیروی کند، حیات بخشد.

¹²Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.

¹² همچنین برگزاری روز سبت را نشانهٔ پیمان خود با ایشان ساختم تا به ایشان یاد آوری شود که من خداوند، ایشان را مقدّس ساخته‌ام.

¹³But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they despised my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly polluted: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.

¹³ امّا قوم اسرائیل در بیابان علیه من سرکشی کردند. ایشان از قوانین من پیروی نکردند و احکام حیاتبخش مرا زیر پا نهادند و روز سبت را بی‌حرمت شمردند. آنگاه آماده بودم که خشم خود را در بیابان بر ایشان فرو ریزم و ایشان را نابود كنم.

¹⁴But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out.

¹⁴ امّا چنین نکردم تا در نظر اقوامی‌ که دیدند اسرائیل را از مصر بیرون آوردم، نام من بی‌حرمت نشود.

¹⁵Yet also I lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands;

¹⁵ امّا در بیابان سوگند یاد کردم که ایشان را به سرزمینی که به ایشان داده بودم، نیاورم؛ سرزمینی که غنی و حاصلخیز است و بهترین سرزمین‌هاست.

¹⁶Because they despised my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, but polluted my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols.

¹⁶ زیرا ایشان قوانین مرا نپذیرفتند و چون دلهایشان به دنبال بُتهایشان بود، از احکام من پیروی نکردند و سبت را بی‌حرمت کردند.

¹⁷Nevertheless mine eye spared them from destroying them, neither did I make an end of them in the wilderness.

¹⁷ «امّا سپس بر ایشان رحم کردم و تصمیم گرفتم ایشان را آنجا در بیابان نکُشم.

¹⁸But I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols:

¹⁸ در بیابان به فرزندانشان گفتم، از احکام و فرامین نیاکان خود پیروی نکنید و با بُتهای ایشان خود را آلوده نسازید.

¹⁹I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them;

¹⁹ من، خداوند خدایتان هستم. از احکام من پیروی کنید و با دقّت کامل دستورات مرا بجا آورید.

²⁰And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.

²⁰ روز سبت مرا که به یادبود پیمان من با شما تعیین شده است نگاه دارید تا بدانید که من، خداوند خدایتان هستم.

²¹Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; they polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.

²¹ «امّا فرزندانشان علیه من سرکشی کردند. از فرامین من پیروی نکردند و قوانین مرا با دقّت انجام ندادند؛ قوانینی که اطاعت از آن به آنان زندگی‌ می‌بخشد. ایشان روز سبت مرا بی‌حرمت ساختند. آنگاه اندیشیدم که خشم خود را بر ایشان فرو ریزم و همه را بکشم.

²²Nevertheless I withdrew mine hand, and wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted in the sight of the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth.

²² امّا دست نگاه داشتم تا در نظر ملّتهایی که دیدند ایشان را از مصر خارج می‌کنم، نام من بی‌حرمت نگردد.

²³I lifted up mine hand unto them also in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the heathen, and disperse them through the countries;

²³ همچنین در بیابان سوگند یاد کردم که در میان ملّتها و کشورها ایشان را پراکنده خواهم کرد.

²⁴Because they had not executed my judgments, but had despised my statutes, and had polluted my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols.

²⁴ زیرا آنها احکام مرا بجا نیاوردند، قوانین مرا رد کردند، روز سبت مرا بی‌حرمت ساختند و به بُتهای اجداد خود چشم دوختند.

²⁵Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and judgments whereby they should not live;

²⁵ «پس من هم احکام و قوانینی را به ایشان دادم که خوب و حیاتبخش نبودند.

²⁶And I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that openeth the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I am the LORD.

²⁶ ایشان را گذاشتم که با قربانی کردن فرزند اول خود برای بُتها، خود را آلوده سازند و به این ترتیب ایشان را جزا بدهم و بدانند که من خداوند هستم.

²⁷Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me.

²⁷ «پس ای انسان فانی، از جانب من، خداوند متعال، به قوم اسرائیل بگو که وقتی اجدادشان را به سرزمینی که به نیاکانشان وعده‌ داده بودم آوردم، در آنجا هم به من خیانت کردند و نام مرا بی‌حرمت ساختند، زیرا بر سر هر تپّه و زیر هر درخت سبز برای بُتها قربانی نمودند، بُخور سوزاندند و عطر و هدایای نوشیدنی آوردند و با این کار خود، آتش خشم مرا برافروختند.

²⁸For when I had brought them into the land, for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savour, and poured out there their drink offerings.

²⁸ به ایشان گفتم: این مکانهای بلند که به آنجا می‌روید، چیست؟» پس نام آن تا به امروز بامه خوانده می‌شود.

²⁹Then I said unto them, What is the high place whereunto ye go? And the name whereof is called Bamah unto this day.

²⁹ بنابراین به قوم اسرائیل بگو: «خداوند متعال چنین می‌فرماید: آیا با پیروی از آیین نیاکانتان خود را آلوده خواهید ساخت؟ و با دنبال کردن بُتها خود را گمراه خواهید کرد؟

³⁰Wherefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye polluted after the manner of your fathers? and commit ye whoredom after their abominations?

³⁰ حتّی امروز همان هدایا را به بُتها تقدیم می‌کنید و با قربانی کردن فرزندانتان در آتش برای آنها خود را آلوده می‌سازید و هنوز شما اسرائیلی‌ها می‌آیید تا ارادهٔ مرا بدانید؟ خداوند، خدا می‌فرماید: به حیات خود سوگند که به شما اجازه نخواهم داد که از من سؤال کنید.

³¹For when ye offer your gifts, when ye make your sons to pass through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, even unto this day: and shall I be enquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you.

³¹ آنچه در اندیشهٔ شماست هرگز رخ نخواهد داد که مانند ملّتها و قبایل کشورهای دیگر شوید و چوب و سنگ را ستایش کنید.

³²And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all, that ye say, We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.

³² «من، خداوند متعال به حیات خود سوگند می‌خورم که با دست پُرقدرت و بازوی توانا و خشم سهمگین، بر شما سلطنت می‌کنم.

³³As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you:

³³ هنگامی‌که شما را از کشورهایی که در آنها پراکنده شده‌اید، گرد هم آورم، توان و خشم خود را به شما نشان خواهم داد.

³⁴And I will bring you out from the people, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out.

³⁴ شما را به بیابان ملّتها خواهم آورد و در آنجا با شما روبه‌رو می‌شوم و شما را داوری خواهم کرد.

³⁵And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face.

³⁵ اینک همان‌گونه که نیاکانتان را در صحرای سینا محکوم کردم، شما را نیز محکوم خواهم ساخت.

³⁶Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the Lord GOD.

³⁶ «شما را از زیر عصا خواهم گذراند و مجبور خواهید شد که از پیمان من پیروی کنید.

³⁷And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant:

³⁷ کسانی را که سرکش و گناهکار هستند، از میان شما برمی‌دارم و از سرزمینی که اینک در آن زندگی می‌کنید، بیرون می‌آورم، امّا اجازه نخواهم داد تا به سرزمین اسرائیل بازگردند. آنگاه خواهید دانست که من خداوند هستم.»

³⁸And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

³⁸ خداوند، متعال می‌فرماید: «ای قوم اسرائیل، همهٔ شما بروید و بُتهای خود را خدمت کنید، امّا هشدار می‌دهم که پس از این باید از من پیروی کنید و با تقدیم هدایا به بُتها، نام مقدّس مرا بی‌حرمت نسازید.

³⁹As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD; Go ye, serve ye every one his idols, and hereafter also, if ye will not hearken unto me: but pollute ye my holy name no more with your gifts, and with your idols.

³⁹ در آن سرزمین، بر کوه مقدّس من، یعنی کوه بلند اسرائیل، همهٔ شما مرا پرستش خواهید کرد. از ستایش شما راضی خواهم شد و قربانی‌ها و هدایای مقدّس شما را خواهم پذیرفت.

⁴⁰For in mine holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, there shall all the house of Israel, all of them in the land, serve me: there will I accept them, and there will I require your offerings, and the firstfruits of your oblations, with all your holy things.

⁴⁰ پس از آنکه شما را از کشورهایی که در آنها پراکنده شده‌اید بیرون آوردم و گرد هم جمع کردم، قربانی‌های سوختنی شما را خواهم پذیرفت و ملّتها خواهند دید که من مقدّس هستم.

⁴¹I will accept you with your sweet savour, when I bring you out from the people, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered; and I will be sanctified in you before the heathen.

⁴¹ هنگامی‌که شما را به اسرائیل، سرزمینی که به نیاکانتان وعده داده بودم، بازگردانم، آنگاه خواهید دانست که من خداوند هستم.

⁴²And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to your fathers.

⁴² آنگاه تمام کارهای ناشایستی را که انجام داده‌اید و باعث آلودگی‌تان شد، به یاد می‌آورید و به‌خاطر همه پلیدیهایی که انجام دادید از خود بیزار می‌گردید.

⁴³And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have been defiled; and ye shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have committed.

⁴³ خداوند، متعال می‌فرماید: ای قوم اسرائیل، هنگامی‌که با شما به‌خاطر نام خود عمل کنم و نه به سزای رفتارهای پلید و فاسد شما، آنگاه خواهید دانست که من خداوند، خدا هستم.»

⁴⁴And ye shall know that I am the LORD when I have wrought with you for my name's sake, not according to your wicked ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O ye house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.

⁴⁴ خداوند به من فرمود:

⁴⁵Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

⁴⁵ «ای انسان فانی، به سوی جنوب بنگر و علیه آن سخن بگو و علیه جنگلهای جنوب نبوّت کن.

⁴⁶Son of man, set thy face toward the south, and drop thy word toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field;

⁴⁶ به جنگلهای جنوب بگو به آنچه خداوند، متعال می‌فرماید گوش فرا ده. ببین! آتشی برمی‌افروزم و همهٔ درختان تو را از تر و خشک خواهد سوزاند، هیچ چیزی نمی‌تواند آن را خاموش کند. آن آتش از جنوب به سوی شمال گسترش خواهد یافت و همه گرمای شعله‌های آن را حس خواهند کرد.

⁴⁷And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.

⁴⁷ همه خواهند دانست که من، خداوند این آتش را افروخته‌ام و خاموش نخواهد شد.» آنگاه گفتم: «آه ای خداوند خدا، ایشان دربارهٔ من می‌گویند 'چرا او با رمز و راز سخن می‌گوید؟'»

⁴⁸And all flesh shall see that I the LORD have kindled it: it shall not be quenched.

⁴⁸ آنگاه گفتم: «آه ای خداوند خدا، ایشان دربارهٔ من می‌گویند 'چرا او با رمز و راز سخن می‌گوید؟'»

⁴⁹Then said I, Ah Lord GOD! they say of me, Doth he not speak parables?
