¹Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

¹ خداوند به من فرمود:

²Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:

² «ای انسان فانی، به قوم خود هشدار بده: اگر من ارتشی به این سرزمین بیاورم، و مردم شخصی را از میان خود برای دیده‌بانی برگزینند

³If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;

³ و اگر دیده‌بان آمدن ارتش را دیده، شیپور را به صدا درآورد و به مردم هشدار دهد

⁴Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.

⁴ و اگر کسی صدای شیپور را بشنود و به آن توجّه نکند، او در جنگ کشته خواهد شد. بنابراین خونش برگردن خودش خواهد بود.

⁵He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.

⁵ او خودش مقصّر است، زیرا اگر توجّه می‌کردند، می‌توانستند فرار کنند.

⁶But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand.

⁶ امّا اگر دیده‌بان آمدن ارتش را ببیند و شیپور را به صدا درنیاورد و به مردم هشدار ندهد، دشمن به آنها حمله خواهند کرد و مردم گناهکار را خواهد کشت ولی من خداوند، دیده‌بان را مسئول مرگ آنها خواهم دانست.

⁷So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.

⁷ «پس ای انسان فانی، تو را به دیده‌بانی قوم اسرائیل برمی‌گزینم. هرگاه سخنی از دهان من می‌شنوی باید از سوی من به ایشان هشدار بدهی.

⁸When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

⁸ اگر به اشخاص پلیدی بگویم: 'شما ای شریران یقیناً خواهید مُرد' و تو سخن نگویی و آن مردان پلید را هشدار ندهی تا راه خود را عوض کنند، آن مردان پلید در گناه خود خواهند مُرد، امّا تو مسئول مرگ ایشان خواهی بود.

⁹Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

⁹ امّا اگر تو به آن مردان پلید هشدار دادی تا از راه خود بازگردند و ایشان از راه خود بازنگردند، ایشان در گناه خود خواهند مُرد ولی تو جان خود را نجات داده‌ای.

¹⁰Therefore, O thou son of man, speak unto the house of Israel; Thus ye speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live?

¹⁰ «ای انسان فانی، به قوم اسرائیل بگو: شما چنین گفته‌اید: 'بار گناه و خطای ما بسیار سنگین است و ما را ضعیف و ناتوان ساخته است، پس چطور می‌توان زیست؟'

¹¹Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

¹¹ به ایشان بگو خداوند متعال می‌فرماید: 'به حیات خود سوگند که از مردن گناهکار خشنود نمی‌گردم، بلکه از اینکه پلیدکار از راه خود بازگردد و زنده بماند. بازگردید، از روشهای پلید خود بازگردید. ای قوم اسرائیل، چرا می‌خواهید بمیرید؟'

¹²Therefore, thou son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth.

¹² «وقتی نیکوکاری گناه ورزد، کارهای نیک او، او را نجات نخواهد داد. امّا اگر شخص شریری از شرارت خود دست بردارد، تنبیه نخواهد شد. و اگر شخص نیکوکاری گناه ورزد، حیات او به هدر خواهد رفت.

¹³When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.

¹³ اگر به نیکوکاری قول حیات بدهم، امّا او فکر کند که کارهای نیکوی او کافی است و شروع به گناه ورزیدن کند، من هیچ‌کدام از کارهای نیکوی او را به یاد نخواهم آورد. او به‌خاطر گناهان خودش خواهد مرد.

¹⁴Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right;

¹⁴ اگر به شخص شریری هشدار بدهم که خواهد مرد، امّا او از شرارت خود باز ایستد و آنچه را نیکوست انجام دهد؛

¹⁵If the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, walk in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.

¹⁵ برای نمونه اگر او وام خود را پرداخت کند، آنچه را دزدیده است بازگرداند و گناه نکند و قوانینی را که حیات می‌بخشد پیروی نماید، وی به راستی زنده خواهد ماند و نخواهد مُرد.

¹⁶None of his sins that he hath committed shall be mentioned unto him: he hath done that which is lawful and right; he shall surely live.

¹⁶ هیچ‌کدام از گناهانی که مرتکب شده‌ علیه او به یاد آورده نخواهد شد. او آنچه را که راست و نیکوست است، انجام داده‌ و زنده خواهد ماند.

¹⁷Yet the children of thy people say, The way of the Lord is not equal: but as for them, their way is not equal.

¹⁷ «امّا قوم تو می‌گویند: 'راه خداوند راست نیست' درحالی‌که این روش ایشان است که راست نیست.

¹⁸When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby.

¹⁸ هنگامی‌که شخص نیکوکاری از نیکوکاری باز ایستد و گناه ورزد، به‌خاطر آن خواهد مُرد

¹⁹But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby.

¹⁹ و هنگامی‌که شخص شریری از گناه کردن دست بردارد و آنچه را راست و نیکوست انجام دهد، زنده خواهند ماند.

²⁰Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. O ye house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways.

²⁰ هنوز می‌گویند: 'راه خداوند راست نیست.' ای قوم اسرائیل، من شما را طبق کردارتان داوری خواهم کرد.»

²¹And it came to pass in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is smitten.

²¹ در روز پنجم ماه دهم از سال دوازدهم تبعید ما، شخصی که از اورشلیم گریخته بود، نزد من آمد و گفت: «شهر تسخیر شده است.»

²²Now the hand of the LORD was upon me in the evening, afore he that was escaped came; and had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened, and I was no more dumb.

²² غروب روز گذشته، قبل از آمدن مرد فراری، من حضور قدرتمند خداوند را احساس کرده بودم. زمانی که مرد فراری در صبح نزد من آمد، دهان من گشوده شد و خداوند قدرت سخن گفتن را به من بازگردانید.

²³Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

²³ خداوند به من فرمود:

²⁴Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance.

²⁴ «ای انسان فانی، ساکنان ویرانه‌هایی که در سرزمین اسرائیل هستند می‌گویند: 'ابراهیم یک نفر بود و سرزمین را تصرّف کرد. امّا ما بسیار هستیم، بدون شک این سرزمین به ما داده شده است تا تصرّف کنیم.'

²⁵Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land?

²⁵ «بنابراین به ایشان بگو خداوند متعال چنین می‌فرماید: شما گوشت را با خونش می‌خورید، بت‌پرستی می‌کنید و خون می‌ریزید. آیا شما فکر می‌کنید که سرزمین را متصرّف خواهید شد؟

²⁶Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every one his neighbour's wife: and shall ye possess the land?

²⁶ شما بر شمشیر خود تکیه می‌کنید و مرتکب پلیدی می‌شوید، همهٔ شما زنان همسایهٔ خود را آلوده می‌کنید. آیا شما فکر می‌کنید که سرزمین را متصرّف خواهید شد؟

²⁷Say thou thus unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely they that are in the wastes shall fall by the sword, and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be devoured, and they that be in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence.

²⁷ «به ایشان بگو که من، خداوند متعال، هشدار می‌دهم به حیات خودم سوگند، مردمی که در شهرهای ویرانه زندگی می‌کنند کشته خواهند شد و کسانی را که در صحرا هستند، خوراک حیوانات وحشی خواهم کرد و کسانی‌که در دژها و غارها هستند، از بیماری خواهند مُرد.

²⁸For I will lay the land most desolate, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through.

²⁸ من این سرزمین را متروک و ویران خواهم کرد و قدرتی که به آن مغرور بودند، پایان خواهد یافت. کوههای اسرائیل چنان ویران خواهند شد که کسی از آنها نخواهد گذشت.

²⁹Then shall they know that I am the LORD, when I have laid the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed.

²⁹ هنگامی‌که این سرزمین را به‌خاطر پلیدیهای ایشان ویران و متروک سازم، آنگاه خواهند دانست که من خداوند هستم.»

³⁰Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD.

³⁰ خداوند فرمود: «ای انسان فانی، قوم تو در کنار دیوارها و در کنار درهای خانه‌ها گرد هم می‌آیند و با یکدیگر دربارهٔ تو صحبت می‌کنند و می‌گویند: 'بیاییم و کلام خداوند را بشنویم.'

³¹And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.

³¹ ایشان نزد تو می‌آیند همان‌گونه که قوم من می‌آیند و مانند قوم من نزد تو می‌نشینند و سخنان تو را می‌شنوند، امّا از آنها پیروی نمی‌کنند، زیرا چاپلوسی بر لبهای ایشان است و دلشان در پی سودجویی است.

³²And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.

³² برای ایشان تو چون خوانندهٔ خوش آهنگی هستی که شعرهای عاشقانه می‌خواند و خوب ساز می‌زند. ایشان آنچه را می‌گویی می‌شنوند ولی آن را انجام نمی‌دهند. امّا هنگامی‌که سخنان تو به حقیقت بپیوندند -که به حقیقت خواهند پیوست- آنگاه خواهند دانست که نبی‌‌ای در میان ایشان بوده است.»

³³And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.

³³ امّا هنگامی‌که سخنان تو به حقیقت بپیوندند -که به حقیقت خواهند پیوست- آنگاه خواهند دانست که نبی‌‌ای در میان ایشان بوده است.»
