¹Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.

¹ مردم می‌گویند: «بیایید به سوی خداوند بازگردیم، زیرا او که ما را دریده است، ما را شفا می‌بخشد و او که ما را مجروح ساخته، ما را درمان خواهد کرد.

²After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.

² پس از دو سه روز ما را زنده خواهد ساخت و ما در حضور او زندگی خواهیم کرد.

³Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

³ پس باید بکوشیم تا خداوند را بشناسیم. همان‌گونه که دمیدن سپیدهٔ صبح و ریزش باران بهاری قطعی است، خداوند نیز به سوی ما باز خواهد گشت.

⁴O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away.

⁴ «ای افرایم و ای یهودا، با شما چه کنم؟ دوستی و محبّت شما همچون مه و شبنم صبحگاهی زودگذر است.

⁵Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.

⁵ به همین دلیل من انبیای خود را فرستاده‌ام تا پیام مرا به شما برسانند که هلاکت شما حتمی و داوری من مانند صاعقه‌ای بر شما فرود خواهد آمد.

⁶For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

⁶ من از شما محبّت پایدار می‌خواهم نه قربانی. من خواهان هدایای سوختنی شما نیستم، بلکه از شما توقع دارم که مرا بشناسید.

⁷But they like men have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.

⁷ «امّا آنها مانند آدم، پیمان مرا شکستند و به من خیانت کردند.

⁸Gilead is a city of them that work iniquity, and is polluted with blood.

⁸ جلعاد، شهر گناهکاران و قاتلان است.

⁹And as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the company of priests murder in the way by consent: for they commit lewdness.

⁹ کاهنان آن مانند راهزنان در راه شکیم در کمین مردم می‌نشینند و خون مردم را می‌ریزند و دست به هر نوع جنایتی می‌زنند.

¹⁰I have seen an horrible thing in the house of Israel: there is the whoredom of Ephraim, Israel is defiled.

¹⁰ من در اسرائیل شاهد کارهای زشتی بوده‌ام. مردم بُتها را پرستش کرده و خود را ناپاک ساخته‌اند. «برای تو نیز ای یهودا، روزی را برای مجازات تعیین کرده‌ام.

¹¹Also, O Judah, he hath set an harvest for thee, when I returned the captivity of my people.
