¹Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.

¹ خداوند زمین را ویران و خالی از سکنه خواهد کرد. او سطح زمین را خراب می‌کند و مردمِ آن را پراکنده می‌کند.

²And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.

² همهٔ مردم، کاهنان و مردم عادی، بردگان و صاحبان غلامها، خریداران و فروشندگان، وام دهندگان و وام‌گیران، ثروتمندان و فقیران، هم با همان سرنوشت روبه‌رو خواهند شد.

³The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word.

³ تمام زمین خُرد و ویران شده است. خداوند این را گفته و آن واقع خواهد شد.

⁴The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish.

⁴ زمین خشک و همه‌چیز پژمرده می‌شود و مردم دنیا ناتوان‌تر و زمین و آسمان رو به زوال خواهند بود.

⁵The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.

⁵ مردم با شکستن قوانین خدا و با شکستن پیمانی که آنها با خداوند تا ابد بسته بودند، زمین را آلوده کرده‌اند.

⁶Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.

⁶ پس زمین لعنت شده است و مردم آن جزای آنچه را که خود کرده‌‌اند می‌بینند و تعداد کمتر و کمتری زنده می‌مانند.

⁷The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do sigh.

⁷ تاکستانها خشک می‌شوند و شراب کمیاب می‌شود. حتّی کسانی‌که زمانی آدمهای شادی بودند، اکنون افسرده هستند.

⁸The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth.

⁸ موسیقی‌های شادی که با چنگ و طبل می‌نواختند خاموش شده است.

⁹They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.

⁹ دیگر کسی آواز خوشی در کنار جام شراب نمی‌سراید و دیگر کسی از مزهٔ شراب لذّت نمی‌برد.

¹⁰The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in.

¹⁰ در شهر هرج و مرج است و مردم برای امن بودن، درهای خانه‌های خود را قفل می‌کنند.

¹¹There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.

¹¹ مردم در کوچه‌ها فریاد می‌زنند چون دیگر شرابی وجود ندارد. شادی برای همیشه رفته و گویی از این سرزمین رخت بربسته.

¹²In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

¹² شهر ویران شده و دروازه‌های آن شکسته است.

¹³When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done.

¹³ این است آنچه برای تمام ملّتهای جهان روی خواهد داد. مثل آخر فصل برداشت محصول است. وقتی آخرین زیتون و آخرین خوشهٔ انگور را از تاکستان چیده باشند.

¹⁴They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry aloud from the sea.

¹⁴ آنها که زنده مانده‌اند از شادمانی سرود می‌خوانند. ساکنان غرب خواهند گفت که خدا عظیم است،

¹⁵Wherefore glorify ye the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea.

¹⁵ و آنها که در شرق هستند او را ستایش خواهندکرد. مردمی که در کنارهٔ دریا زندگی می‌کنند، خداوند، خدای اسرائیل را حمد خواهند گفت.

¹⁶From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.

¹⁶ از دورترین نقاط جهان سرودهایی در حمد قوم اسرائیل -‌یعنی ملّت نیکوکار و عادل- شنیده می‌شود. امّا برای من دیگر امیدی نیست! من در حال نابودی هستم! خائنین به خیانتهای خود ادامه می‌دهند و خیانتها هر روز زیادتر می‌شود.

¹⁷Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.

¹⁷ ای مردم، همهٔ شما به من گوش دهید! وحشت و حفره و دام در انتظار شماست.

¹⁸And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.

¹⁸ هر که بخواهد از وحشت بگریزد به حفره خواهد افتاد و هرکس از حفره فرار کند گرفتار دام خواهد شد. رگبار باران از آسمان می‌بارد و بنیاد زمین به لرزه خواهد آمد.

¹⁹The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.

¹⁹ زمین می‌لرزد، می‌ترکد، و می‌شکافد.

²⁰The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.

²⁰ زمین مثل یک آدم مست بی‌ثبات و مثل آلونکی در برابر توفان از یک سو به سوی دیگر حرکت می‌کند. دنیا زیر بار گناهانش خم شده است؛ آن سقوط می‌کند و دیگر برنخواهد خاست.

²¹And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.

²¹ زمانی می‌آید که خداوند قدرتهای آسمانی و حکام جهانی را مجازات خواهد کرد.

²²And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.

²² خداوند، پادشاهان را مانند زندانیان با هم در سیاه‌چالی خواهد انداخت. او آنها را در زندان تا روز مجازاتشان نگاه خواهد داشت. ماه نور خود را از دست می‌دهد و خورشید دیگر نخواهد تابید، چون خداوند متعال پادشاه خواهد بود. او در اورشلیم از فراز کوه صهیون حکومت خواهد کرد و رهبران قوم، جلال او را خواهند دید.

²³Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

²³ ماه نور خود را از دست می‌دهد و خورشید دیگر نخواهد تابید، چون خداوند متعال پادشاه خواهد بود. او در اورشلیم از فراز کوه صهیون حکومت خواهد کرد و رهبران قوم، جلال او را خواهند دید.
