¹Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.

¹ ای اورشلیم تو مثل زن نازایی بودی که هیچ فرزندی نداشت، امّا اکنون می‌توانی با صدای بلند و با شادی بسرایی، چون تعداد فرزندان تو بیشتر از زنی است که شوهرش همیشه با او بوده است.

²Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes;

² چادری را که در آن زندگی می‌کنید بزرگتر، ریسمانهای آن را بلندتر و میخهای آن را محکمتر کنید!

³For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.

³ مرزهای خود را از هر سو گسترش دهید، قوم شما تمام سرزمینهایی را که اکنون در تصرّف سایر ملّتهاست پس خواهند گرفت. شهرهایی که الآن متروک هستند، از جمعیّت پُر خواهند شد.

⁴Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.

⁴ نترس! دیگر رسوا و تحقیر نخواهی شد. تو بی‌وفایی روزهای جوانی خود را و تنهایی غم‌انگیز خود را در روزگار بیوگی فراموش خواهی کرد.

⁵For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

⁵ آفرینندهٔ تو که نامش خداوند متعال است مثل شوهری حامی تو خواهد بود. خدای قدّوس اسرائیل -‌و حکمران تمام جهان- تو را نجات خواهد داد.

⁶For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God.

⁶ ای اسرائیل، تو مثل زن جوانی هستی که شوهرش او را ترک کرده و بسیار افسرده است. امّا خداوند تو را دوباره به سوی خودش می‌خواند و می‌گوید:

⁷For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee.

⁷ «برای یک لحظهٔ کوتاه تو را ترک کردم، اکنون با محبّت پایدار تو را برمی‌گردانم.

⁸In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer.

⁸ من از روی خشم، فقط برای لحظه‌ای، دور شدم امّا من محبّت پایدارم را تا به ابد، به تو نشان خواهم داد.» این است، آنچه خدای نجات دهنده می‌گوید.

⁹For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee.

⁹ «در زمان نوح قول دادم که هیچ‌وقت در دنیا چنین توفانی نفرستم. اکنون قول می‌دهم، دیگر نسبت به تو خشم نگیرم، و دیگر تو را سرزنش و مجازات نکنم.

¹⁰For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.

¹⁰ ممکن است کوهها و تلها درهم بریزند، امّا محبّت پایدار من برای تو، هیچ‌وقت پایان نخواهد داشت، و من به پیمان خودم برای صلح همیشه وفادار خواهم بود.» این است آنچه خدایی که شما را دوست دارد می‌گوید.

¹¹O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.

¹¹ خداوند می‌گوید: «ای اورشلیم، ای شهر رنجدیده و بیچاره که تسلّی‌دهنده‌ای نداری، من بنیادهای تو را از نو با سنگهای قیمتی خواهم ساخت.

¹²And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones.

¹² من بُرجهای تو را از یاقوت و دروازه‌های تو را با سنگهایی می‌سازم که‌ مثل شعلهٔ آتش بدرخشد و دیوار اطراف تو را با جواهرات خواهم ساخت.

¹³And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.

¹³ «من خودم مردم تو را تعلیم می‌دهم و به آنها صلح و سعادت خواهم بخشید.

¹⁴In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.

¹⁴ عدالت و راستی به تو قوّت خواهد داد، و تو از ظلم و وحشت در امان خواهی بود.

¹⁵Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.

¹⁵ کسی‌که به تو حمله کند، تأیید مرا ندارد؛ و هرکه با تو بجنگد، سقوط خواهد کرد.

¹⁶Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.

¹⁶ «من آهنگر را آفریده‌ام تا بر آتش بدمد و اسلحه بسازد، من همچنین سرباز را آفریدم تا از اسلحه برای کشتن استفاده کند. امّا دیگر هیچ اسلحه‌‌ای نمی‌تواند به تو آسیب برساند، تو برای همهٔ کسانی‌که تو را متّهم می‌کنند، پاسخی خواهی داشت. من از بندگان خود دفاع خواهم ‌کرد و به آنها پیروزی خواهم داد.»

¹⁷No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

¹⁷ امّا دیگر هیچ اسلحه‌‌ای نمی‌تواند به تو آسیب برساند، تو برای همهٔ کسانی‌که تو را متّهم می‌کنند، پاسخی خواهی داشت. من از بندگان خود دفاع خواهم ‌کرد و به آنها پیروزی خواهم داد.»
