¹The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a diamond: it is graven upon the table of their heart, and upon the horns of your altars;

¹ خداوند می‌گوید: «ای یهودا، گناه شما با قلمی آهنین نوشته شده، با قلمی که نوکش از الماس است بر قلبهای شما حک، و بر گوشهٔ قربانگاههایتان کنده‌کاری شده است.

²Whilst their children remember their altars and their groves by the green trees upon the high hills.

² شما شمایل الههٔ اشره را در قربانگاههایی که در کنار هر درخت سبز و در بالای تپّه‌ها

³O my mountain in the field, I will give thy substance and all thy treasures to the spoil, and thy high places for sin, throughout all thy borders.

³ و کوهستان‌ها برافراشته‌اید، پرستش می‌کنید. به‌خاطر گناهانی که در سراسر این سرزمین مرتکب شده‌اید، من دشمنان شما را وادار می‌کنم تمام ثروت و ذخایر شما را به تاراج ببرند.

⁴And thou, even thyself, shalt discontinue from thine heritage that I gave thee; and I will cause thee to serve thine enemies in the land which thou knowest not: for ye have kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn for ever.

⁴ سرزمینی را که من به شما دادم تسلیم دیگران خواهید کرد، و من شما را وادار می‌کنم در مملکتی که چیزی دربارهٔ آن نمی‌دانید در خدمت دشمنان خود در آیید، چون خشم من مثل آتشی است که هیچ‌وقت خاموش نخواهد شد.»

⁵Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.

⁵ خداوند می‌گوید: «کسی را که از من روی بگرداند و به انسان -‌به قدرت انسان فانی- توکّل کند، محکوم خواهم کرد.

⁶For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.

⁶ چنین شخصی مثل بوته‌ای است که در کویر در بیابان بی‌آب و علف، یا در سرزمین شوره‌زار می‌روید، و خیر و برکتی نخواهد دید.

⁷Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

⁷ «امّا به کسی‌که به من توکّل کرده است برکت خواهم داد.

⁸For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

⁸ او مثل درختی است که در کنار آبی روییده و در زمین پر آب ریشه دوانده است. از هوای گرم هراسی ندارد، چون برگهایش همچنان سبز می‌مانند. از نباریدن باران نیز نگران نیست، و همچنان میوه‌ خواهد آورد.

⁹The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

⁹ «کیست که بتواند دل انسان را درک کند؟ چیزی فریبنده‌تر از آن نیست، و آن به‌حدّی بیمار است که علاجی برای آن وجود ندارد.

¹⁰I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

¹⁰ من، خداوند، فکر و دل انسانها را تفحّص می‌کنم، و با هرکس طبق طرز زندگی و کارهای او رفتار می‌کنم.»

¹¹As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.

¹¹ کسی که از راه ناراست پول به دست می‌آورد مثل پرنده‌ای است که بر روی تخمهای پرندگان دیگر می‌خوابد و جوجه‌هایی تولید می‌کند که مال خودش نیستند. در وقت بلوغ همه او را ترک می‌کنند و عاقبت، او احمقی بیش نخواهد بود.

¹²A glorious high throne from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary.

¹² معبد بزرگ ما مانند تخت پرشکوهی از ازل بر کوهی بلند استوار شده است.

¹³O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters.

¹³ ای خداوند، تو امید قوم اسرائیل هستی؛ تمام کسانی‌که تو را ترک کنند، شرمسار خواهند شد. آنها مثل نامهایی که بر روی گرد و خاک نوشته شده باشند، محو می‌شوند، چون تو خداوند و سرچشمهٔ آب زندگی را ترک کرده‌اند.

¹⁴Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise.

¹⁴ ای‌ خداوند، مرا شفا ده تا کاملاً سالم شوم، مرا خلاصی ده تا در امنیّت کامل به سر ببرم. تنها تو را ستایش می‌کنم!

¹⁵Behold, they say unto me, Where is the word of the LORD? let it come now.

¹⁵ مردم به من می‌گویند: «کجاست آن تهدیدهای خداوند برضد ما؟ بگذار آنها عملی شوند»

¹⁶As for me, I have not hastened from being a pastor to follow thee: neither have I desired the woeful day; thou knowest: that which came out of my lips was right before thee.

¹⁶ امّا ای خداوند، من هیچ‌وقت مصرّانه از تو نخواستم تا آنها را دُچار مصیبت کنی و من در آرزوی روزهای سیاه برای آنها نبودم. خداوندا، تو این را می‌دانی و از آنچه گفته‌ام آگاهی.

¹⁷Be not a terror unto me: thou art my hope in the day of evil.

¹⁷ مرا دچار وحشت نکن؛ در سختی‌ها تو تنها پناهگاه من هستی.

¹⁸Let them be confounded that persecute me, but let not me be confounded: let them be dismayed, but let not me be dismayed: bring upon them the day of evil, and destroy them with double destruction.

¹⁸ ای خداوند تمام کسانی را که به من جفا می‌رسانند، رسوا کن. آنها را به وحشت بینداز، امّا مرا نترسان. آنها را دچار مصیبت و نابودی کن.

¹⁹Thus said the LORD unto me; Go and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the kings of Judah come in, and by the which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem;

¹⁹ خداوند به من گفت: «ای ارمیا، به کنار دروازهٔ مردم، دروازه‌ای که پادشاه اسرائیل از آن وارد و خارج می‌شود و به سایر دروازه‌های شهر اورشلیم برو و پیام مرا اعلام کن.

²⁰And say unto them, Hear ye the word of the LORD, ye kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, that enter in by these gates:

²⁰ به پادشاهان و تمام مردم یهود و تمام سکنهٔ اورشلیم که از این دروازه رد می‌شوند بگو به گفتار من گوش دهند.

²¹Thus saith the LORD; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem;

²¹ به آنها بگو اگر می‌خواهند زنده بمانند، نباید هیچ ‌باری را در روز سبت حمل کنند. نباید هیچ چیزی را نه از دروازه‌‌های اورشلیم

²²Neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye any work, but hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers.

²² و نه از خانه‌های خودشان در روز سبت بیرون ببرند. آنها نباید در روز سبت کار کنند. باید روز سبت را همان‌طور که به اجدادشان دستور داده بودم، به عنوان یک روز مقدّس نگاهدارند.

²³But they obeyed not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receive instruction.

²³ اجدادشان به من گوش ندادند و به من توجّهی نکردند. در عوض آنها سرسخت شدند و نخواستند از من اطاعت کنند یا چیزی بشنوند.

²⁴And it shall come to pass, if ye diligently hearken unto me, saith the LORD, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the sabbath day, but hallow the sabbath day, to do no work therein;

²⁴ «به این مردم بگو که ‌آنها باید تمام دستوارات مرا اطاعت کنند. آنها نباید هیچ ‌باری از طریق این دروازه‌ها در روز سبت حمل و نقل کنند. آنها باید روز سبت را به عنوان یک روز مقدّس حفظ کنند و در آن هیچ‌کاری نکنند.

²⁵Then shall there enter into the gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they, and their princes, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: and this city shall remain for ever.

²⁵ در آن صورت پادشاهان و شاهزادگان آنها که از دروازه‌های اورشلیم وارد می‌شوند، دارای همان قدرتی خواهند بود که داوود داشت. آنها به همراه مردم یهودا و اورشلیم سوار بر ارّابه‌ها و اسبها از آنها گذر خواهند کرد و شهر اورشلیم همیشه پر از جمعیّت خواهد بود.

²⁶And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the plain, and from the mountains, and from the south, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meat offerings, and incense, and bringing sacrifices of praise, unto the house of the LORD.

²⁶ مردم از شهرهای یهودا و از روستاهای اورشلیم، از سرزمین بنیامین، از دامنهٔ کوهها، از کوهستانها و از قسمت‌های جنوبی یهودا خواهند آمد. آنها برای معبد بزرگ من هدایا، قربانی‌‌های سوختنی، غلاّت، بُخور و هدایای شکرگزاری خواهند آورد. آنها باید از من اطاعت کنند و سبت را به عنوان یک روز مقدّس نگاهدارند. آنها نباید هیچ کالایی از دروازه‌های اورشلیم وارد یا خارج کنند. اگر چنین کنند، من دروازه‌های اورشلیم را به آتش می‌کشم. آن آتش، کاخهای اورشلیم را خواهد سوزانید و هیچ‌کس نخواهد توانست آن را خاموش کند.»

²⁷But if ye will not hearken unto me to hallow the sabbath day, and not to bear a burden, even entering in at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day; then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.

²⁷ آنها باید از من اطاعت کنند و سبت را به عنوان یک روز مقدّس نگاهدارند. آنها نباید هیچ کالایی از دروازه‌های اورشلیم وارد یا خارج کنند. اگر چنین کنند، من دروازه‌های اورشلیم را به آتش می‌کشم. آن آتش، کاخهای اورشلیم را خواهد سوزانید و هیچ‌کس نخواهد توانست آن را خاموش کند.»
