¹Thus saith the LORD, Go and get a potter's earthen bottle, and take of the ancients of the people, and of the ancients of the priests;

¹ خداوند به من گفت بروم و کوزه‌ای سفالی بخرم. او همچنین از من خواست گروهی از رهبران قوم و کاهنان پیر را با خود

²And go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the east gate, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee,

² از راه دروازهٔ شغال به درّهٔ «ابن هنوم» ببرم و در آنجا پیامی را که او به من خواهد داد، اعلام کنم.

³And say, Hear ye the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle.

³ در آنجا خداوند از من خواست چنین بگویم: «ای پادشاهان یهودا و مردم اورشلیم به آنچه من خداوند متعال، خدای اسرائیل، می‌گویم گوش دهید. من این سرزمین را دچار چنان مصیبتی خواهم کرد که هرکس دربارهٔ آن بشنود متحیّر خواهد شد.

⁴Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;

⁴ چون این مردم مرا ترک کرده‌اند و این سرزمین را با گذرانیدن قربانی برای خدایانی که نه خودشان و نه اجدادشان و نه پادشاهان یهودا چیزی دربارهٔ آنها می‌دانستند، ناپاک کرده‌اند، آنها را به چنین مصیبتی گرفتار کرده‌ام. آنها این سرزمین را از خون بی‌گناهان پر ساخته‌اند.

⁵They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind:

⁵ آنها قربانگاههایی برای بعل برپا کرده‌اند تا فرزندان خود را به عنوان قربانی در آتش بسوزانند. من هیچ‌گاه چنین دستوری به آنها نداده بودم و حتّی به فکرم هم خطور نکرده بود.

⁶Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that this place shall no more be called Tophet, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter.

⁶ پس زمانی خواهد آمد که این محل دیگر به نام 'توفت' یا درّهٔ 'ابن هنوم' خوانده نخواهد شد، در عوض آن را 'درّهٔ کشتارگاه' خواهند نامید.

⁷And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of them that seek their lives: and their carcases will I give to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.

⁷ در این مکان، من نقشه‌های مردم یهودا و اورشلیم را خنثی خواهم کرد. به دشمنانشان اجازه خواهم داد بر آنها چیره شوند و آنها را در جنگ بکشند و من بدنهای آنها را طعمهٔ پرندگان و حیوانات وحشی خواهم کرد.

⁸And I will make this city desolate, and an hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all the plagues thereof.

⁸ این شهر را چنان ویران خواهم کرد که هرکس از کنار آن رد شود حیرت زده و متعجّب خواهد شد.

⁹And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend in the siege and straitness, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their lives, shall straiten them.

⁹ دشمن شهر را محاصره خواهد کرد و تلاش خواهد کرد تا مردم آن را بکشد. محاصرهٔ شهر چنان سخت خواهد بود که مردم، یکدیگر و حتّی فرزندانشان را خواهند خورد.»

¹⁰Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee,

¹⁰ آنگاه خداوند از من خواست کوزه را در حضور کسانی که با من آمده‌ بودند بشکنم

¹¹And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury them in Tophet, till there be no place to bury.

¹¹ و به آنها بگویم که خداوند متعال گفته بود: «من این مردم و این شهر را مثل این کوزه می‌شکنم و آنها مثل این کوزهٔ سفالینِ خُرد شده، خواهند بود که هیچ‌کس نمی‌تواند آن‌را به صورت اولش درآورد. مردم مردگان خود را حتّی در توفت دفن خواهند کرد چون جای دیگری برای دفن آنها وجود نخواهد داشت.

¹²Thus will I do unto this place, saith the LORD, and to the inhabitants thereof, and even make this city as Tophet:

¹² این شهر و ساکنان آن به سرنوشت توفت گرفتار خواهند شد.

¹³And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall be defiled as the place of Tophet, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink offerings unto other gods.

¹³ در حقیقت تمام خانه‌های شهر اورشلیم، خانه‌های پادشاهان یهودا و تمام خانه‌هایی که در آنها برای ستارگان بُخور سوزانده شده و به سایر خدایان شراب تقدیم شده، همه مثل توفت ناپاک خواهند بود.»

¹⁴Then came Jeremiah from Tophet, whither the LORD had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the LORD's house; and said to all the people,

¹⁴ آنگاه من توفت را -جایی که خداوند مرا فرستاده بود پیام او را اعلام کنم- ترک کردم. من به حیاط معبد بزرگ رفتم، در آنجا ایستادم و به تمام مردم گفتم که خداوند متعال، خدای اسرائیل گفته بود: «من این شهر و تمام شهرهای اطراف را همان‌طور که قبلاً گفته بودم به‌خاطر سرسختی آنها و به‌خاطر این که به آنچه می‌گویم گوش نمی‌دهند، مجازات خواهم کرد.»

¹⁵Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.

¹⁵ که خداوند متعال، خدای اسرائیل گفته بود: «من این شهر و تمام شهرهای اطراف را همان‌طور که قبلاً گفته بودم به‌خاطر سرسختی آنها و به‌خاطر این که به آنچه می‌گویم گوش نمی‌دهند، مجازات خواهم کرد.»
