¹The word of the LORD which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Gentiles;

¹ خداوند دربارهٔ ملّتهای دیگر با من سخن گفت:

²Against Egypt, against the army of Pharaohnecho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah.

² و از مصر شروع کرد. این است آنچه خداوند دربارهٔ ارتش نکو، فرعون مصر که از نبوکدنصر پادشاه بابل در کرکمیش نزدیک رود فرات در چهارمین سال سلطنت یهویاقیم -‌پسر یوشیا- پادشاه یهود شکست خورد، می‌گوید:

³Order ye the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle.

³ «افسران مصری فریاد می‌زنند، سپرهای خود را آماده نمایید و برای نبرد حرکت کنید!

⁴Harness the horses; and get up, ye horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, and put on the brigandines.

⁴ اسبهای خود را زین کنید و بر آنها سوار شوید! کلاهخودهایتان را بر سربگذارید و در صف بایستید! نیزه‌های خود را تیز و زره‌های خود را برتن کنید!

⁵Wherefore have I seen them dismayed and turned away back? and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled apace, and look not back: for fear was round about, saith the LORD.

⁵ خداوند می‌پرسد: «امّا این چیست که من می‌بینم؟ آنها با وحشت عقب‌نشینی می‌کنند. سربازانشان شکست خورده و هراسان با سرعت تمام می‌دوند و به پشت سرخود هم نگاه نمی‌کنند.

⁶Let not the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall stumble, and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates.

⁶ آنها که با چنین سرعتی می‌دوند، نمی‌توانند فرار کنند؛ سربازان نمی‌توانند بگریزند. آنها در شمال، در کنار فرات می‌لغزند و می‌افتند.

⁷Who is this that cometh up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers?

⁷ این کیست که مثل امواج رود نیل برمی‌خیزد و طوفانش تمام سواحل آن را زیر آب می‌برد؟

⁸Egypt riseth up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he saith, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof.

⁸ این مصر است که مثل امواج رود نیل برخاسته، و سیلی که سواحل آن را پوشانیده است. چون مصر گفته بود: 'من برمی‌خیزم و تمام جهان را خواهم گرفت، من شهرها و مردمی را که در آنها زندگی می‌کنند، درهم خواهم شکست.

⁹Come up, ye horses; and rage, ye chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, that handle the shield; and the Lydians, that handle and bend the bow.

⁹ به سواره نظام فرمان حرکت بده و ارّابه‌ها را روانه کن! سربازان را بفرست، مردان حبشی و لیبیایی را برای حمل سپرها بفرست، و تیراندازان ماهر لود را نیز.'

¹⁰For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: for the Lord GOD of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.

¹⁰ امروز روز خداوند متعال است: امروز روزی است که او انتقام خواهد گرفت، امروز روزی است که او دشمنان خود را مجازات خواهد کرد. شمشیر او آنها را آن‌قدر خواهد خورد تا کاملاً سیر شود، و آن‌قدر از خون آنها خواهد آشامید تا سیراب شود. امروز قادر متعال در شمال، در کنار رود فرات مغلوبان را قربانی می‌کند.

¹¹Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: in vain shalt thou use many medicines; for thou shalt not be cured.

¹¹ ای مردم مصر به جلعاد بروید و در جستجوی دارویی باشید! تمام داروهای شمال بی‌اثر هستند و هیچ‌چیزی نمی‌تواند درد شما را درمان کند.

¹²The nations have heard of thy shame, and thy cry hath filled the land: for the mighty man hath stumbled against the mighty, and they are fallen both together.

¹² ملّتها از رسوایی شما باخبرند، و همه فریاد شما را شنیده‌اند. سربازی به سرباز دیگری برخورد می‌کند و هر دو باهم به زمین می‌افتند.

¹³The word that the LORD spake to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt.

¹³ وقتی نبوکدنصر از بابل برای حمله به مصر آمد، خداوند به من چنین گفت:

¹⁴Declare ye in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes: say ye, Stand fast, and prepare thee; for the sword shall devour round about thee.

¹⁴ «در شهرهای مصر -‌در مجدل، ممفیس و تَحفَنحیس- اعلام کن و بگو: 'برای دفاع از خود آماده شوید، تمام شما در جنگ نابود خواهید شد!

¹⁵Why are thy valiant men swept away? they stood not, because the LORD did drive them.

¹⁵ چرا خدای قادر شما، اپیس، افتاده است؟ خداوند آن را سرنگون کرده است!'

¹⁶He made many to fall, yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword.

¹⁶ سربازان شما لغزیدند و افتادند، هریک به دیگری می‌گوید: 'عجله کن، بیا تا به خانه‌های خود و به پیش اقوام خودمان برویم و از شمشیر دشمن بگریزیم!'

¹⁷They did cry there, Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he hath passed the time appointed.

¹⁷ به فرعون نامی تازه بدهید، 'طبل توخالی که فرصت را از دست داد.'

¹⁸As I live, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.

¹⁸ من، خدای متعال، پادشاه هستم. من خدای زنده هستم. به همان‌گونه که کوه تابور برفراز کوههای دیگر قرار گرفته و کوه کرمل در کنار دریا سر به آسمان کشیده، قدرت کسی‌که به شما حمله می‌کند، همچنین خواهد بود.

¹⁹O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish thyself to go into captivity: for Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant.

¹⁹ ای مردم مصر برای اسارت آماده شوید! ممفیس به بیابان تبدیل می‌شود و کسی در آن ویرانه زندگی نخواهد کرد.

²⁰Egypt is like a very fair heifer, but destruction cometh; it cometh out of the north.

²⁰ مصر مانند گاو قشنگ و چاقی است که زنبوری از شمال به آن حمله کرده باشد.

²¹Also her hired men are in the midst of her like fatted bullocks; for they also are turned back, and are fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their calamity was come upon them, and the time of their visitation.

²¹ حتّی سربازان حقوق بگیر آنها مثل گوساله‌های درمانده‌ هستند. آنها نایستاده‌اند که بجنگند، همهٔ آنها برگشتند و فرار کردند. روز مجازات و زمان نابودی آنها رسیده‌ بود.

²²The voice thereof shall go like a serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood.

²² مصر مانند ماری، هیس‌هیس‌ کنان می‌گریزد، و ارتش دشمن به او نزدیکتر می‌شود. آنها با تبرهای خود، مثل چوب‌بُرانی که درختان جنگل را می‌برند

²³They shall cut down her forest, saith the LORD, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.

²³ و آن را از بین می‌برند، به او حمله می‌کنند. مردان آنها بی‌شمارند، و سربازان آنها از ملخها بیشتر.

²⁴The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.

²⁴ مردم مصر شرمسارند؛ چون مغلوب مردمی شده‌اند که از شمال آمده‌اند. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.»

²⁵The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saith; Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all them that trust in him:

²⁵ خداوند متعال، خدای اسرائیل می‌گوید: «من آمون، خدای تیبس را به همراه تمام مصر و خدایان و پادشاهانش مجازات خواهم کرد. من فرعون و تمام کسانی را که به او اعتماد کرده‌اند، به مکافات کارهایشان خواهم رساند.

²⁶And I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith the LORD.

²⁶ و آنها را تسلیم نبوکدنصر پادشاه بابل و ارتش او -‌که خواهان نابودیشان هستند- خواهم کرد. امّا در آینده، باز مردم در مصر مثل گذشته زندگی خواهند کرد. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.

²⁷But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.

²⁷ «ای قوم من ترسان نباشید، ای مردم اسرائیل وحشت نکنید. من شما را از سرزمینهای دور واز ممالکی که به اسارت برده شده بودید، آزاد خواهم ساخت. شما به سلامتی به خانه‌های خود بازمی‌گردید، در امن و امان خواهید بود و دیگر از کسی نخواهید ترسید. من با شما خواهم آمد و شما را نجات خواهم داد. من ملّتهایی که شما را در میان آنها پراکنده کردم، نابود خواهم کرد؛ امّا شما را نابود نخواهم کرد. من شما را بدون مجازات رها نمی‌کنم؛ و وقتی شما را مجازات کنم، منصفانه خواهد بود. من خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.»

²⁸Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the LORD: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.

²⁸ من با شما خواهم آمد و شما را نجات خواهم داد. من ملّتهایی که شما را در میان آنها پراکنده کردم، نابود خواهم کرد؛ امّا شما را نابود نخواهم کرد. من شما را بدون مجازات رها نمی‌کنم؛ و وقتی شما را مجازات کنم، منصفانه خواهد بود. من خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.»
