¹In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

¹ در ازل كلمه بود. كلمه با خدا بود و كلمه خود خدا بود،

²The same was in the beginning with God.

² از ازل كلمه با خدا بود.

³All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

³ همه ‌چیز به وسیلهٔ او هستی یافت و بدون او چیزی آفریده نشد.

⁴In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

⁴ حیات از او به وجود آمد و آن حیات

⁵And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

⁵ نور آدمیان بود. نور در تاریكی می‌تابد و تاریكی هرگز بر آن چیره نشده است.

⁶There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

⁶ مردی به نام یحیی ظاهر شد كه فرستادهٔ خدا بود.

⁷The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

⁷ او آمد تا شاهد باشد و بر آن نور شهادت دهد تا به وسیلهٔ او همه ایمان بیاورند.

⁸He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

⁸ او خود آن نور نبود، بلكه آمد تا بر آن نور شهادت دهد.

⁹That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

⁹ آن نور واقعی كه همهٔ آدمیان را نورانی می‌كند، در حال آمدن بود.

¹⁰He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

¹⁰ او در جهان بود و جهان به وسیلهٔ او آفریده شد، امّا جهان او را نشناخت.

¹¹He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

¹¹ او به قلمرو خود آمد ولی متعلّقانش او را قبول نكردند.

¹²But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

¹² امّا به همهٔ کسانی‌که او را قبول كردند و به او ایمان آوردند، این امتیاز را داد كه فرزندان خدا شوند

¹³Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

¹³ كه نه مانند تولّدهای معمولی و نه در اثر تمایلات نفسانی یک پدر جسمانی، بلكه از خدا تولّد یافتند.

¹⁴And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

¹⁴ كلمه انسان شد و در میان ما ساكن گردید. ما شكوه و جلالش را دیدیم، شكوه و جلالی شایستهٔ فرزند یگانهٔ پدر و پر از فیض و راستی.

¹⁵John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

¹⁵ شهادت یحیی این بود كه فریاد می‌زد و می‌گفت: «این همان شخصی است كه دربارهٔ او گفتم كه بعد از من می‌‌‌آید امّا بر من برتری و تقدّم دارد، زیرا پیش از تولّد من، او وجود داشت.»

¹⁶And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

¹⁶ از فیض سرشار او، پیوسته بركات فراوانی یافته‌ایم.

¹⁷For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

¹⁷ زیرا شریعت به وسیلهٔ موسی عطا شد، امّا فیض و راستی توسط عیسی مسیح آمد.

¹⁸No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

¹⁸ كسی هرگز خدا را ندیده است، امّا آن فرزند یگانه‌ای كه در ذات پدر و از همه به او نزدیكتر است او را شناسانیده است.

¹⁹And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?

¹⁹ این است شهادت یحیی وقتی یهودیان اورشلیم، كاهنان و لاویان را پیش او فرستادند تا بپرسند كه او كیست.

²⁰And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.

²⁰ او از جواب دادن خودداری نكرد، بلكه به طور واضح اعتراف نموده گفت: «من مسیح نیستم.»

²¹And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.

²¹ آنها از او پرسیدند «پس آیا تو الیاس هستی؟» پاسخ داد: «خیر.» آنها پرسیدند: «آیا تو آن نبی موعود هستی؟» پاسخ داد: «خیر.»

²²Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?

²² پرسیدند: «پس تو کیستی؟ ما باید به فرستندگان خود جواب بدهیم، دربارهٔ خودت چه می‌گویی؟»

²³He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.

²³ او از زبان اشعیای نبی پاسخ داده گفت: «من صدای ندا كننده‌ای هستم كه در بیابان فریاد می‌زند، 'راه خداوند را راست گردانید.'»

²⁴And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.

²⁴ این قاصدان كه از طرف فریسیان فرستاده شده بودند

²⁵And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?

²⁵ از او پرسیدند: «اگر تو نه مسیح هستی و نه الیاس و نه آن نبی موعود، پس چرا تعمید می‌دهی؟»

²⁶John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;

²⁶ یحیی پاسخ داد: «من با آب تعمید می‌دهم، امّا کسی در میان شما ایستاده است كه شما او را نمی‌شناسید.

²⁷He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

²⁷ او بعد از من می‌آید، ولی من حتّی شایستهٔ آن نیستم كه بند كفشهایش را باز كنم.»

²⁸These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.

²⁸ این ماجرا در بیت‌عنیا، یعنی آن طرف رود اردن، در جایی‌که یحیی مردم را تعمید می‌داد، واقع شد.

²⁹The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

²⁹ روز بعد، وقتی یحیی عیسی را دید كه به طرف او می‌آید، گفت: «نگاه كنید این است آ‌ن برّهٔ خدا كه گناه جهان را برمی‌دارد.

³⁰This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.

³⁰ این است آن کسی‌که درباره‌اش گفتم كه بعد از من مردی می‌آید كه بر من تقدّم و برتری دارد، زیرا پیش از تولّد من او وجود داشته است.

³¹And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

³¹ من او را نمی‌شناختم، امّا آمدم تا با آب تعمید دهم و به ‌این وسیله او را به اسرائیل بشناسانم.»

³²And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

³² یحیی شهادت خود را این‌طور ادامه داد: «من روح خدا را دیدم كه به صورت كبوتری از آسمان آمد و بر او قرار گرفت.

³³And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

³³ من او را نمی‌شناختم امّا آن کسی‌که مرا فرستاد تا با آب تعمید دهم به من گفته بود، هرگاه ببینی كه روح بر کسی نازل شود و بر او قرار گیرد، بدان كه او همان کسی است كه به روح‌القدس تعمید می‌دهد.

³⁴And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

³⁴ من این را دیده‌ام و شهادت می‌دهم كه او پسر خداست.»

³⁵Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;

³⁵ روز بعد هم یحیی با دو نفر از شاگردان خود ایستاده بود،

³⁶And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

³⁶ وقتی عیسی را دید كه از آنجا می‌گذرد گفت: «این است برّهٔ خدا.»

³⁷And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

³⁷ آن دو شاگرد این سخن را شنیدند و به دنبال عیسی به راه افتادند.

³⁸Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?

³⁸ عیسی برگشت و آن دو نفر را دید كه به دنبال او می‌آیند. از آنها پرسید: «به دنبال چه می‌گردید؟» آنها گفتند: «ربی (یعنی ای استاد) منزل تو كجاست؟»

³⁹He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.

³⁹ او به ایشان گفت: «بیایید و ببینید.» پس آن دو نفر رفتند و دیدند كجا منزل دارد و بقیّهٔ روز را پیش او ماندند. زیرا تقریباً ساعت چهار بعد از ظهر بود.

⁴⁰One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.

⁴⁰ یكی از آن دو نفر، كه بعد از شنیدن سخنان یحیی به دنبال عیسی رفت، اندریاس برادر شمعون پطرس بود.

⁴¹He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

⁴¹ او اول برادر خود شمعون را پیدا كرد و به او گفت: «ما ماشیح (یعنی مسیح) را یافته‌ایم.»

⁴²And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

⁴² پس وقتی اندریاس، شمعون را نزد عیسی برد، عیسی به شمعون نگاه كرد و گفت: «تویی شمعون پسر یونا، ولی بعد از این كیفا (یا پطرس به معنی صخره) نامیده می‌شوی.»

⁴³The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.

⁴³ روز بعد، وقتی عیسی می‌‌خواست به جلیل برود، فیلیپُس را یافته به او گفت: «به دنبال من بیا.»

⁴⁴Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

⁴⁴ فیلیپُس مانند اندریاس و پطرس اهل بیت‌صیدا بود.

⁴⁵Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

⁴⁵ فیلیپُس هم رفت و نتنائیل را پیدا كرد و به او گفت: «ما آن کسی را كه موسی در تورات ذكر كرده و انبیا دربارهٔ او سخن گفته‌اند، پیدا كرده‌ایم او عیسی پسر یوسف و از اهالی ناصره است.»

⁴⁶And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

⁴⁶ نتنائیل به او گفت: «آیا می‌شود كه از ناصره چیز خوبی بیرون بیاید؟» فیلیپُس جواب داد: «بیا و ببین.»

⁴⁷Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

⁴⁷ وقتی عیسی نتنائیل را دید كه به طرف او می‌آید گفت: «این است یک اسرائیلی واقعی كه در او هیچ مكری وجود ندارد.»

⁴⁸Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

⁴⁸ نتنائیل پرسید: «مرا از كجا می‌شناسی؟» عیسی جواب داد: «پیش از آنکه فیلیپُس تو را صدا كند، وقتی زیر درخت انجیر بودی، من تو را دیدم.»

⁴⁹Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

⁴⁹ نتنائیل گفت: «ای استاد، تو پسر خدا هستی! تو پادشاه اسرائیل می‌باشی!»

⁵⁰Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.

⁵⁰ عیسی در جواب گفت: «آیا فقط به علّت اینکه به تو گفتم تو را زیر درخت انجیر دیدم ایمان آوردی؟ بعد از این كارهای بزرگتری خواهی دید.» آنگاه به او گفت: «یقین بدانید كه شما آسمان را گشوده و فرشتگان خدا را در حالی‌كه بر پسر انسان صعود و نزول می‌كنند خواهید دید.»

⁵¹And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

⁵¹ آنگاه به او گفت: «یقین بدانید كه شما آسمان را گشوده و فرشتگان خدا را در حالی‌كه بر پسر انسان صعود و نزول می‌كنند خواهید دید.»
