¹Now it came to pass, when Adonizedec king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;

¹ چون ادونی‌صدق، پادشاه اورشلیم شنید که یوشع، عای را تصرّف کرده و آن را با خاک یکسان ساخته و پادشاه آن را به قتل رسانیده، همان‌طور که اریحا و پادشاه آن را از بین برد همچنین و با مردم جبعون پیمان صلح بسته است و آنها با مردم اسرائیل زندگی می‌کنند، بی‌اندازه ترسید. چون جبعون مانند همهٔ پایتخت‌های دیگر، شهری مهم و بزرگتر از عای بود و همچنین مردانی دلاور و جنگجو داشت،

²That they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.

² بنابراین ادونی‌صدق، پادشاه اورشلیم به هوهام پادشاه حبرون، فرام پادشاه یرموت، یافیع پادشاه لاخیش و دبیر پادشاه عجلون پیامی‌ به این شرح فرستاد:

³Wherefore Adonizedec king of Jerusalem, sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,

³ «بیایید به من کمک کنید تا جبعون را از بین ببریم، زیرا آنها با یوشع و بنی‌اسرائیل پیمان صلح بسته‌اند.»

⁴Come up unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.

⁴ این پنج پادشاه اموری، یعنی پادشاهان اورشلیم، حبرون، یرموت، لاخیش و عجلون، قوای خود را جمع کرده، با همهٔ سپاهیان خود به جبعون آمدند و جنگ شروع شد.

⁵Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.

⁵ مردان جبعون در اردوگاه جلجال به یوشع خبر دادند و خواهش کرده گفتند: «ما را تنها نگذار. هرچه زودتر خود را به کمک ما برسان! ما را نجات بده! همهٔ پادشاهان اموری که در کوهستان‌ها زندگی می‌کنند، با سپاهیان خود برای حمله در اینجا جمع شده‌اند.»

⁶And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.

⁶ ‌آنگاه یوشع با تمام ارتش و سربازان دلیر خود از جلجال به سوی جبعون حرکت کرد.

⁷So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valor.

⁷ خداوند به یوشع فرمود: «از دشمن نترس. من پیروزی را نصیب تو کرده‌ام. هیچ‌کدام از آنها نمی‌‌توانند در برابر تو مقاومت کنند.»

⁸And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.

⁸ پس یوشع و سپاهیان او تمام شب راه رفتند تا به جبعون رسیدند و یک حملهٔ ناگهانی را بر اموریان شروع کردند.

⁹Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.

⁹ خداوند آنها را به دست مردم اسرائیل شکست داد، تعداد بی‌شماری از آنها در جبعون به قتل رسیدند و بقیّهٔ به گردنهٔ کوه بیت‌‌حورون فرار کردند. بنی‌اسرائیل آنها را تا عزیقه و مقیده تعقیب کرده، به کشتار خود ادامه می‌‌دادند.

¹⁰And the LORD discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Bethhoron, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.

¹⁰ فراریان وقتی می‌‌خواستند از گردنهٔ کوه بیت‌حورون پایین بروند، خداوند تگرگهای درشتی را تا عزیقه بر سرشان فرود می‌‌آورد و همه را نابود کرد. آنانی که در اثر بارش تگرگ بزرگ کشته شدند، بیشتر از آنانی بودند که با شمشیر بنی‌اسرائیل کشته شدند.

¹¹And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

¹¹ در همان روزی که مردم اسرائیل اموریان را شکست دادند، یوشع در اجتماع اسرائیل به درگاه خداوند چنین دعا کرد: «ای آفتاب، در بالای جبعون بایست و ای مهتاب، بر دشت ایلون توقّف کن.»

¹²Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.

¹² بنابراین تا زمانی که اسرائیل دشمنان خود را نابود نساخت، آفتاب در جای خود ایستاد و مهتاب از جای خود حرکت نکرد. در این باره در کتاب یاشر نوشته شده است که آفتاب در وسط آسمان در جای خود ایستاد و تمام روز غروب نکرد.

¹³And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

¹³ نه پیش از آن و نه بعد از آن، کسی چنان روزی را ندیده است که خداوند فقط به‌خاطر دعای یک انسان چنین کاری کرد. خداوند برای مردم اسرائیل جنگ نمود.

¹⁴And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.

¹⁴ بعد یوشع با همهٔ سپاهیان خود به اردوگاه در جلجال برگشت.

¹⁵And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

¹⁵ در زمان جنگ، آن پنج پادشاه فرار کردند و در غار مقیده پنهان شدند.

¹⁶But these five kings fled, and hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah.

¹⁶ به یوشع خبر رسید که مخفیگاه آن پنج پادشاه را پیدا کرده‌اند و آنها در غار مقیده هستند.

¹⁷And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found hid in a cave at Makkedah.

¹⁷ یوشع دستور داد که سنگهای بزرگی را به دهانه غار بگذارند و چند نفر هم در آنجا کشیک بدهند تا آنها نتوانند از غار خارج شوند.

¹⁸And Joshua said, Roll great stones upon the mouth of the cave, and set men by it for to keep them:

¹⁸ به سربازان دیگر هم دستور داد: «به تعقیب بقیّهٔ دشمنان بروید و از پشت سر به آنها حمله کنید و نگذارید که داخل شهر خود شوند! خداوند خدای شما، آنها را به دست شما داده است.»

¹⁹And stay ye not, but pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for the LORD your God hath delivered them into your hand.

¹⁹ یوشع و مردان او به کشتار آنها ادامه دادند و هر پنج لشکر دشمن را از بین بردند، امّا تعداد کمی‌ جان سالم به در برده، داخل شهر شدند.

²⁰And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, that the rest which remained of them entered into fenced cities.

²⁰ بعد لشکریان اسرائیل بدون تلفات جانی به اردوگاه خود برگشتند. و از آن به بعد کسی جرأت آن را نداشت که حرف بدی دربارهٔ اسرائیل بزند.

²¹And all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.

²¹ سپس یوشع دستور داد که سنگها را از دهانهٔ غار بردارند و آن پنج پادشاه را به حضور او بیاورند.

²²Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave.

²² آنها سنگها را از دهانهٔ غار برداشته، پنج پادشاه اورشلیم، حبرون، یرموت، لاخیش و عجلون را بیرون آوردند و پیش یوشع بردند. آنگاه یوشع تمام قوم اسرائیل را جمع کرد و به فرماندهان نظامی‌ گفت: «بیایید و پاهای خود را روی گردن این پادشاهان بگذارید.»

²³And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.

²³ و اضافه کرد: «نترسید. شجاع و دلیر باشید، زیرا خداوند این کار را در حق همهٔ دشمنان شما می‌‌کند.»

²⁴And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.

²⁴ سپس یوشع، پادشاهان را کشت و اجساد آنها را بر پنج درخت آویخت و آنها تا شام بر درخت آویزان ماندند.

²⁵And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.

²⁵ هنگام شام یوشع دستور داد که اجساد آنها را پایین بیاورند و در همان غاری که پنهان شده بودند، بیندازند. سپس سنگهای بزرگی را در دهانه غار قرار دادند که هنوز هم در آنجا باقی است.

²⁶And afterward Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.

²⁶ یوشع در همان روز به شهر مقیده حمله کرده، پادشاه آن را کشت و همهٔ مردم آنجا را به قتل رسانید و هیچ‌کس را زنده نگذاشت. همان کاری را که در حق پادشاه اریحا کرده بود، در حق پادشاه مقیده هم کرد.

²⁷And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had been hid, and laid great stones in the cave's mouth, which remain until this very day.

²⁷ بعد یوشع با ارتش خود از مقیده حرکت کرده، به لبنه حمله کرد.

²⁸And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof he utterly destroyed, them, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of Jericho.

²⁸ خداوند، بنی‌اسرائیل را بر آن شهر و پادشاهش پیروز ساخت. آنها هیچ‌کس را زنده نگذاشتند و بلایی را که بر سر پادشاه اریحا آورده بودند، بر سر این پادشاه هم آوردند.

²⁹Then Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah:

²⁹ یوشع و لشکر او، از لبنه به لاخیش رفته، آن را محاصره کردند.

³⁰And the LORD delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of Jericho.

³⁰ خداوند به بنی‌اسرائیل پیروزی بخشید و یوشع آنجا را در روز دوم تسخیر نمود و کاری که در لبنه کرده بود، در لاخیش هم کرد و تمام مردم آنجا را کشت و هیچ‌کس را زنده نگذاشت.

³¹And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it:

³¹ آنگاه هورام، پادشاه جازر به کمک لاخیش آمد، امّا یوشع او را با سپاهش مغلوب کرد و یک نفر را هم زنده نگذاشت.

³²And the LORD delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, which took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

³² سپس یوشع با ارتش خود از لاخیش به عجلون رفت و در روز اول آن را محاصره و تصرّف کرد و مثل لاخیش همهٔ ساکنان آن را با شمشیر کشت.

³³Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.

³³ بعد از آن یوشع با قوای خود از عجلون به حبرون رفت. پس از یک حمله آن را تسخیر کرد. سپس پادشاه، شهرها و همهٔ مردم آنجا را از بین برد و چنانکه در عجلون کرد در آنجا هم هیچ‌کس را زنده نگذاشت و همهٔ کسانی را که در آنجا بودند بکلّی نابود نمود.

³⁴And from Lachish Joshua passed unto Eglon, and all Israel with him; and they encamped against it, and fought against it:

³⁴ بعد یوشع به دبیر حمله کرد و آن را هم مثل حبرون تسخیر نمود. پادشاه و شهرهای آن را از بین برد و همهٔ ساکنان آنجا را کشت و هیچ‌کس را زنده نگذاشت.

³⁵And they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

³⁵ یوشع مطابق دستور خداوند خدای بنی‌اسرائیل، تمام آن سرزمین را که شامل کوهستان، منطقهٔ جنوبی و دامنه‌های کوه بود، تصرّف کرد. پادشاهان و مردمان آن را از بین برد. همه را بکلّی نابود کرد و هیچ جانداری را زنده نگذاشت.

³⁶And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it:

³⁶ مبارزهٔ یوشع از قادش برنیع شروع شد و تا غزه و تمام سرزمین جوشن و جبعون رسید.

³⁷And they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and all the souls that were therein.

³⁷ همهٔ پادشاهان و سرزمینهای ایشان را در یک زمان تسخیر کرد، زیرا خداوند اسرائیل، برای ایشان جنگ می‌کرد. بعد یوشع و ارتش او به اردوگاه خود در جلجال برگشتند.

³⁸And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it:

³⁸ بعد یوشع و ارتش او به اردوگاه خود در جلجال برگشتند.

³⁹And he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to her king.

⁴⁰So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.

⁴¹And Joshua smote them from Kadeshbarnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.

⁴²And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.

⁴³And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.
