¹And it came to pass a long time after that the LORD had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua waxed old and stricken in age.

¹ پس از گذشت سالهای طولانی، سرانجام خداوند بنی‌اسرائیل را از دشمنان گرداگرد ایشان رهایی بخشید و آنان به آرامی‌ رسیدند. یوشع پیر و سالخورده شده بود.

²And Joshua called for all Israel, and for their elders, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers, and said unto them, I am old and stricken in age:

² او تمام قوم اسرائیل را با رهبران، رؤسا، داوران و معتمدان آنها جمع کرده به آنها گفت: «من اکنون پیر شده‌ام.

³And ye have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto all these nations because of you; for the LORD your God is he that hath fought for you.

³ شما آنچه را که خداوند خدای شما، به‌خاطر شما با سایر قومها کرد، دیدید. خداوند خدای شما، برای شما جنگ کرد.

⁴Behold, I have divided unto you by lot these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even unto the great sea westward.

⁴ من سرزمین اقوامی‌ را که باقی مانده‌اند و همچنین آنهایی را که قبلاً مغلوب نموده‌ام، از رود اردن در شرق تا دریای مدیترانه در غرب، بین شما تقسیم کردم.

⁵And the LORD your God, he shall expel them from before you, and drive them from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their land, as the LORD your God hath promised unto you.

⁵ خداوند خدای شما، همهٔ آن مردم را از سر راه شما و از سرزمینی که در آن سکونت دارند، بیرون می‌کند تا همان‌طور که به شما وعده داده بود، سرزمین آنها را تصرّف نمایید.

⁶Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left;

⁶ پس کوشش کنید آنچه را که در کتاب تورات موسی نوشته شده، انجام دهید و از هیچ‌یک از دستورات آن سرپیچی نکنید.

⁷That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them:

⁷ احتیاط کنید با مردمی‌ که در بین شما باقی مانده‌اند، معاشرت نداشته باشید. حتّی نام خدایان آنها را هم، به زبان نیاورید. به نام خدایان ایشان قسم نخورید و آنها را خدمت یا پرستش نکنید.

⁸But cleave unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto this day.

⁸ بلکه همان‌طور که تا به حال رفتار نموده‌اید، به خداوند خدای خود توکّل نمایید.

⁹For the LORD hath driven out from before you great nations and strong: but as for you, no man hath been able to stand before you unto this day.

⁹ او اقوام بزرگ و نیرومند را از سر راهتان بیرون راند تا هیچ قومی‌ یارای مقاومت با شما را نداشته باشد.

¹⁰One man of you shall chase a thousand: for the LORD your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath promised you.

¹⁰ هرکدام از شما می‌تواند به تنهایی در مقابل هزار سرباز دشمن بایستد، زیرا خداوند خدایتان مطابق وعده‌ای که داده است، برای شما جنگ می‌کند.

¹¹Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love the LORD your God.

¹¹ پس کوشش کنید که خداوند خدای خود را دوست داشته باشید.

¹²Else if ye do in any wise go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and shall make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you:

¹² اگر از او روی برگردانید و با اقوامی‌ که باقی مانده‌اند، معاشرت و ازدواج کنید،

¹³Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.

¹³ باید بدانید که خداوند خدای شما، آنها را بیرون نخواهد کرد، بلکه آنها دام بر سر راه شما و تازیانه برای پشت شما و خاری در چشمتان خواهند شد تا اینکه همگی شما در این زمین نیکویی که خداوند خدای شما، به شما داده است، هلاک گردید.

¹⁴And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.

¹⁴ «اکنون زمان مرگ من رسیده است و شما از دل و جان می‌‌دانید که خداوند خدای شما، همهٔ چیزهای خوبی را که وعده فرموده بود، به شما داد و به تمام وعده‌های خود وفا کرد و یکی از آنها هم بر زمین نیافتاد.

¹⁵Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good things are come upon you, which the LORD your God promised you; so shall the LORD bring upon you all evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.

¹⁵ امّا همان‌طور که همهٔ وعده‌های خود را عملی کرد، اگر از فرمان او سرپیچی نمایید، چنان بلاهایی بر سرتان خواهد آورد که همگی شما در این سرزمینی که خداوند به شما داده است، بکلّی نابود شوید. اگر شما پیمانی را که خداوند خدایتان با شما بسته است، بشکنید و خدایان بیگانه را پرستش کنید، آنگاه خشم خداوند بر شما خواهد آمد و شما را در آن سرزمینی که به شما داده است، نیست و نابود می‌‌کند.»

¹⁶When ye have transgressed the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them; then shall the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.

¹⁶ اگر شما پیمانی را که خداوند خدایتان با شما بسته است، بشکنید و خدایان بیگانه را پرستش کنید، آنگاه خشم خداوند بر شما خواهد آمد و شما را در آن سرزمینی که به شما داده است، نیست و نابود می‌‌کند.»
