¹Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

¹ بعد از وفات یوشع، قوم اسرائیل از خداوند پرسیدند: «اول کدام طایفه باید به جنگ کنعانیان برود؟»

²And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

² خداوند فرمود: «طایفهٔ یهودا باید اول برود. من آن سرزمین را به آنها خواهم سپرد.»

³And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

³ طایفهٔ یهودا، به طایفهٔ شمعون گفتند: «شما با ما بیایید تا با کنعانیان بجنگیم و سرزمینی را که متعلّق به ماست تصرّف کنیم، ما نیز به شما کمک می‌کنیم تا سرزمین خود را تصرّف نمایید.» پس سپاهیان شمعون و سپاهیان یهودا با هم به جنگ رفتند.

⁴And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

⁴ خداوند آنها را بر کنعانیان و فرزیان پیروز ساخت، آنان ده‌هزار نفر از دشمنان خود را در بازق کشتند.

⁵And they found Adonibezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

⁵ سپس ادونی بازق را یافته، با او جنگیدند.

⁶But Adonibezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.

⁶ ادونی بازق فرار کرد، امّا آنها او را دستگیر نموده، شصت دست و پای او را بریدند.

⁷And Adonibezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

⁷ ادونی بازق گفت: «هفتاد پادشاه با شصتهای دست و پا بریده، خرده نانهای سفرهٔ مرا می‌خوردند. اکنون خداوند مرا به سزای کارهایم رسانیده است.» بعد او را به اورشلیم آوردند و او در آنجا مُرد.

⁸Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

⁸ سپاهیان یهودا اورشلیم را تصرّف کردند و ساکنان آن را با شمشیر کشتند و شهر را آتش زدند.

⁹And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.

⁹ سپس به جنگ کنعانیان که در کوهستان، در جنوب و در کوهپایه‌ها زندگی می‌کردند، رفتند.

¹⁰And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

¹⁰ بعد با کنعانیان ساکن حبرون، که قبلاً قریت اربع نامیده می‌شد، جنگ کردند و خاندانهای شیشای، اخیمان و تلمای را شکست دادند.

¹¹And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher:

¹¹ از آنجا به شهر دبیر حمله کردند. (نام دبیر پیش از آن قریت سفیر بود.)

¹²And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

¹² کالیب گفت: «هرکسی که قریت سفیر را تسخیر کند من دختر خود، عکسه را به او می‌دهم.»

¹³And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

¹³ عتنئیل، پسر قناز برادر کوچکتر کالیب، آن شهر را تسخیر کرد و کالیب عکسه دختر خود را به او داد.

¹⁴And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?

¹⁴ وقتی پیش او آمد، عنتئیل او را تشویق کرد که از پدرش کالیب، یک مزرعه بخواهد. عکسه از الاغ خود پایین آمد و کالیب از او پرسید: «چه می‌خواهی؟»

¹⁵And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

¹⁵ عکسه گفت: «به من یک هدیه بده. چون زمینی که به من داده‌ای، سرزمینی خشک و بی‌آب است، پس چند چشمهٔ آب نیز به من بده.» پس کالیب چشمه‌های بالا و پایین را به او داد.

¹⁶And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.

¹⁶ فرزندان قینی، پدر زن موسی، با طایفهٔ یهودا از اریحا به بیابان یهودا که در جنوب عَراد است رفتند و با مردم آنجا زندگی کردند.

¹⁷And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

¹⁷ بعد مردان یهودا، به همراهی مردان شمعون، به جنگ کنعانیانِ شهر صَفَت رفتند. آن شهر را بکلّی ویران کردند و نامش را حُرما گذاشتند.

¹⁸Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.

¹⁸ سپاهیان یهودا همچنین غَزَّه، اشقلون، عقرون و روستاهای اطراف آنها را تصرّف کردند.

¹⁹And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

¹⁹ خداوند آنها را در تصرّف کوهستان کمک کرد. امّا آنها نتوانستند، ساکنان دشت را بیرون برانند، زیرا آنها ارّابه‌های جنگی آهنی داشتند.

²⁰And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.

²⁰ شهر حبرون را، طبق دستور موسی، به کالیب دادند و سه خاندان عَناق را از آنجا بیرون راندند.

²¹And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.

²¹ امّا طایفهٔ بنیامین، یبوسیان مقیم اورشلیم را بیرون نراندند، بنابراین آنها تا به امروز، با طایفهٔ بنیامین زندگی می‌کنند.

²²And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the LORD was with them.

²² طایفهٔ یوسف هم رفت و به شهر بیت‌ئیل حمله کرد و خداوند با آنها بود.

²³And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)

²³ آنها جاسوسانی را به بیت‌ئیل، که اکنون لوز نامیده می‌شود، فرستادند.

²⁴And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Show us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will show thee mercy.

²⁴ جاسوسان مردی را دیدند که از شهر خارج می‌شود. آنها پیش او رفتند و گفتند: «اگر راه ورود به شهر را به ما نشان بدهی، ما با تو به خوبی رفتار می‌کنیم.»

²⁵And when he showed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.

²⁵ آن مرد راه را به آنها نشان داد. آنها رفتند و همهٔ مردم شهر را، به غیراز آن مرد و خانواده‌اش کشتند.

²⁶And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.

²⁶ بعد آن مرد، به سرزمین حِتّیان رفت و در آنجا شهری را آباد کرد و آن را لوز نامید که تا به امروز به همین نام مشهور است.

²⁷Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

²⁷ طایفهٔ منسی ساکنان بیت‌شان، تَعَنَک، مجدو، دور، یبلعام و روستاهای اطراف آنها را بیرون نکردند، بنابراین کنعانیان در همان‌جا ماندند.

²⁸And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.

²⁸ وقتی قوم اسرائیل قویتر شدند، آنها را به کارهای اجباری وادار نمودند امّا آنها را مجبور به ترک آن سرزمین نکردند.

²⁹Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

²⁹ طایفهٔ افرایم هم، کنعانیان مقیم جازَر را بیرون نراندند و ایشان با مردم افرایم به زندگی ادامه دادند.

³⁰Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.

³⁰ طایفهٔ زبولون هم، ساکنان قطرون و نَهلول را بیرون نکردند، پس کنعانیان در همان‌جا ماندند و بنی‌اسرائیل آنها را به کار اجباری وادار کردند.

³¹Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:

³¹ طایفهٔ اشیر ساکنان شهرهای عکو، صیدون، اَحلَب، اکزیب، حَلبه، عَفیق و رَحوب را، بیرون نکردند،

³²But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.

³² بنابراین، مردم اشیر با کنعانیان ساکن آنجا زندگی می‌کردند.

³³Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Bethanath became tributaries unto them.

³³ طایفهٔ نفتالی ساکنان شهرهای بیت شمس و بیت عنات را بیرون نکردند و با کنعانیان آن دو شهر زندگی می‌کردند ولی آنها را مجبور کردند که مردم نفتالی را خدمت کنند.

³⁴And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:

³⁴ امّا اموریان مردم طایفهٔ دان را به کوهستان راندند و به آنها اجازه نمی‌دادند که به دشت بیایند.

³⁵But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.

³⁵ وقتی‌که اموریان در ایلون، شَعَلبیم و کوه حارَس پراکنده شدند، طایفهٔ یوسف قویتر شدند و آنها را شکست دادند و اموریان را به کارهای اجباری وادر نمودند. سرحد اموریان از گردنه عَقرَبیم تا سالع و بالاتر از آن می‌رسید.

³⁶And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.

³⁶ سرحد اموریان از گردنه عَقرَبیم تا سالع و بالاتر از آن می‌رسید.
