¹And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

¹ قوم اسرائیل باز کاری کردند که در نظر خداوند گناه بود. پس خداوند آنها را برای مدّت چهل سال زیر سلطهٔ فلسطینیان برد.

²And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not.

² در شهر صرعه مردی زندگی می‌کرد که از طایفهٔ دان و نام او مانوح بود. زن او نازا بود و نمی‌توانست فرزندی داشته باشد.

³And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.

³ روزی فرشتهٔ خداوند پیش آن زن آمد و گفت: «تو نازا هستی و طفلی نداری، امّا حامله می‌شوی و پسری به دنیا می‌آوری.

⁴Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:

⁴ باید از خوردن شراب و هر نوع مسکرات خودداری کنی و چیزهای حرام نخوری.

⁵For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

⁵ موی سر پسری را که به دنیا می‌آوری، نباید بتراشی؛ چون پسرت از ابتدای تولّد، نذر خداوند می‌باشد. او قوم اسرائیل را از دست فلسطینیان نجات می‌دهد.»

⁶Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:

⁶ بعد آن زن رفت و به شوهر خود گفت: «یک مرد خدا پیش من آمد. چهره‌اش مانند چهره یک فرشته مهیبت بود. من نپرسیدم که از کجا آمده بود. او هم به من نگفت که نامش چیست.

⁷But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death.

⁷ او به من گفت: تو پسری به دنیا می‌آوری. از نوشیدن شراب و مسکرات دوری کن و چیزهای حرام نخور، زیرا پسرت از زمان تولّد تا روز وفات نذر خداوند می‌باشد.»

⁸Then Manoah intreated the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.

⁸ آنگاه مانوح از خداوند درخواست کرده گفت: «خداوندا، از تو تمنّا می‌کنم که آن مرد خدا را دوباره بفرست تا به ما یاد بدهد که وقتی طفل متولّد شد، چگونه او را تربیت کنیم.»

⁹And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her.

⁹ خداوند خواهش او را قبول کرد و وقتی‌که آن زن در مزرعه نشسته بود، دوباره فرشته پیش او آمد. شوهرش مانوح با او نبود.

¹⁰And the woman made haste, and ran, and showed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day.

¹⁰ زن با شتاب پیش شوهر خود رفته گفت: «آن مردی که روز پیش اینجا آمده بود، دوباره آمده است.»

¹¹And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am.

¹¹ مانوح برخاست و به دنبال زن خود، پیش آن مرد رفت و پرسید: «تو بودی که با زن من حرف زدی؟» او جواب داد: «بلی، من بودم.»

¹²And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him?

¹² مانوح گفت: «به ما بگو، پس از آن که همهٔ سخنانی را که گفتی انجام شد، او را چگونه تربیت کنیم؟»

¹³And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware.

¹³ فرشتهٔ خداوند جواب داد: «زنت باید آنچه را به او گفته‌ام انجام دهد.

¹⁴She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe.

¹⁴ از محصول تاک نباید بخورد. از شراب و دیگر مسکرات پرهیز کند، چیزهای حرام نخورد او باید آنچه را به او گفته‌ام، انجام دهد.»

¹⁵And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee.

¹⁵ مانوح به فرشتهٔ خداوند گفت: «خواهش می‌کنم که جایی نروی تا بُزغاله‌ای برایت بپزم.»

¹⁶And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the LORD. For Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the LORD.

¹⁶ فرشته گفت: «من جایی نمی‌روم، امّا نان تو را نمی‌خورم. اگر می‌خواهی قربانی سوختنی تهیّه نمایی، آن را به خداوند تقدیم کن.» مانوح نفهمید که او فرشتهٔ خداوند بود.

¹⁷And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honor?

¹⁷ مانوح از فرشته پرسید: «نامت را به ما بگو تا بعد از آن که پیشگویی تو حقیقت پیدا کرد، به همه دربارهٔ تو بگوییم و از تو تشکّر کنیم.»

¹⁸And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?

¹⁸ فرشتهٔ خداوند گفت: «چرا می‌خواهی نام مرا بدانی، زیرا فهمیدن نام من از قدرت و فهم بشر خارج است.»

¹⁹So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD: and the angel did wonderously; and Manoah and his wife looked on.

¹⁹ مانوح بُزغاله و قربانی آردی را گرفته، بر روی یک سنگ برای خداوند تقدیم کرد. خداوند در برابر چشمان مانوح و زنش کارهای عجیبی انجام داد.

²⁰For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.

²⁰ وقتی‌که شعلهٔ آتش از سر قربانگاه به طرف آسمان بلند شد، فرشتهٔ خداوند هم در میان آن شعله به آسمان بالا رفت. با دیدن آن صحنه، مانوح و زنش به سجده افتادند.

²¹But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD.

²¹ پس از آن مانوح و زنش دیگر فرشتهٔ خداوند را ندیدند. آنگاه مانوح دانست که آن شخص فرشتهٔ خداوند بود.

²²And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.

²² او به زن خود گفت: «حالا مُردن ما حتمی است، زیرا خدا را دیده‌ایم.»

²³But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have showed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.

²³ امّا زنش گفت: «اگر خداوند قصد کشتن ما را می‌داشت، قربانی‌های سوختنی و آردی را، از دست ما قبول نمی‌کرد و این معجزات عجیب را نشان نمی‌داد و این سخنان را به ما نمی‌گفت.»

²⁴And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him.

²⁴ وقتی‌که آن زن طفل خود را به دنیا آورد، او را سامسون نامید. طفل بزرگ شد و خداوند او را برکت داد. هر وقت که سامسون از اردوگاه دان در صرعه و اشتاعول دیدن می‌کرد، روحِ‌ خداوند او را به شوق در می‌آورد.

²⁵And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.

²⁵ هر وقت که سامسون از اردوگاه دان در صرعه و اشتاعول دیدن می‌کرد، روحِ‌ خداوند او را به شوق در می‌آورد.
