¹And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

¹ روزی عیسی در محلی به دعا مشغول بود. وقتی از دعا فراغت یافت یكی از شاگردان به او گفت: «خداوندا، همان‌طور كه یحیی به شاگردان خود یاد داده است، تو هم دعا كردن را به ما یاد بده.»

²And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

² عیسی به ایشان فرمود: «هروقت دعا می‌کنید، بگویید: 'ای پدر، نام تو مقدّس باد، پادشاهی تو بیاید.

³Give us day by day our daily bread.

³ نان روزانهٔ ما را هر روز به ما بده

⁴And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

⁴ و گناهان ما را به ما ببخش، زیرا ما نیز همهٔ كسانی را كه به ما بدی کرده‌اند، می‌بخشیم و ما را از وسوسه‌‌ها دور نگه‌دار.'»

⁵And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

⁵ سپس به ایشان گفت: «فرض كنید كه یكی از شما دوستی داشته باشد و نیمه شب پیش آن دوست برود و بگوید: 'ای دوست، سه قرص نان به من قرض بده

⁶For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?

⁶ یكی از دوستانم كه در سفر بود به خانهٔ من وارد شده است و چیزی ندارم پیش او بگذارم.'

⁷And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.

⁷ و او از داخل جواب بدهد: 'مزاحم من نشو! حالا در قفل شده است و من و بچّه‌هایم به رختخواب رفته‌ایم و نمی‌توانم برخیزم تا چیزی به تو بدهم.'

⁸I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.

⁸ بدانید كه حتّی اگر از روی دوستی برنخیزد و چیزی به او ندهد، امّا سرانجام سماجت او، او را وادار خواهد كرد كه برخیزد و هرچه را دوستش احتیاج دارد، به او بدهد.

⁹And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

⁹ پس به شما می‌گویم تقاضا كنید كه به شما داده خواهد شد، بجویید که پیدا خواهید کرد، بکوبید که در به روی شما باز خواهد شد.

¹⁰For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

¹⁰ چون هرکه بخواهد به دست می‌آورد و هرکه بجوید پیدا می‌کند و هرکه بكوبد در برویش باز می‌شود.

¹¹If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

¹¹ آیا در میان شما پدری هست كه وقتی پسرش از او ماهی بخواهد به عوض ماهی، ماری در دستش بگذارد.

¹²Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

¹² یا وقتی تخم مرغ بخواهد عقربی به او بدهد؟

¹³If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

¹³ پس اگر شما با اینكه گناهکار هستید، می‌دانید چگونه چیزهای خوب را به فرزندانتان بدهید، چقدر بیشتر پدر آسمانی، روح‌القدس را به آنانی كه از او تقاضا می‌کنند، عطا خواهد فرمود!»

¹⁴And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered.

¹⁴ عیسی یک دیو لال را از شخصی بیرون می‌کرد و وقتی دیو بیرون آمد مرد لال شروع به حرف زدن كرد و مردم حیرت كردند.

¹⁵But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.

¹⁵ امّا بعضی‌ها گفتند: «او به وسیلهٔ بعلزبول، رئیس شیاطین، دیوها را بیرون می‌راند.»

¹⁶And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.

¹⁶ دیگران از راه امتحان از او تقاضای نشانه‌ای آسمانی كردند.

¹⁷But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.

¹⁷ امّا او افكار آنان را درک كرد و فرمود: «هر سلطنتی كه علیه خودش تقسیم شود رو به خرابی می‌گذارد و خانواده‌ای كه دو دستگی در آن باشد سقوط خواهد كرد.

¹⁸If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub.

¹⁸ همچنین اگر شیطان علیه خود تفرقه بیندازد، سلطنتش چطور برقرار خواهد ماند؟ باری شما ادّعا دارید كه من به وسیلهٔ بعلزبول دیوها را بیرون می‌رانم.

¹⁹And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.

¹⁹ اگر من به وسیلهٔ بعلزبول دیوها را بیرون می‌رانم، یاران خود شما به چه وسیله آنها را بیرون می‌رانند؟ آنان ادّعای شما را تكذیب خواهند كرد.

²⁰But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.

²⁰ امّا اگر با قدرت خداست كه من دیوها را بیرون می‌رانم، یقین بدانید كه پادشاهی خدا به شما رسیده است.

²¹When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:

²¹ «وقتی مرد زورمندی كه کاملاً مسلّح است از قلعهٔ خود نگهبانی می‌کند، دارایی او در امان است.

²²But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.

²² امّا وقتی كسی زورمندتر از او به او حمله كند، او را از پای در می‌آورد و تیرها و زرهی را كه تكیه‌گاه او هستند، می‌برد و دارایی‌اش را تاراج می‌کند.

²³He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.

²³ «هرکه با من نباشد، برضد من است و هرکه با من جمع نكند، پراكنده می‌سازد.

²⁴When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.

²⁴ «وقتی روح ناپاكی از كسی بیرون می‌آید، در جستجوی استراحتگاهی در بیابانهای بی‌آب و علف سرگردان می‌شود و وقتی جایی را پیدا نمی‌کند، می‌گوید: 'به منزلی كه از آن بیرون آمدم باز می‌گردم.'

²⁵And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.

²⁵ پس بر می‌گردد و آن خانه را جارو شده و منظّم و مرتّب می‌بیند.

²⁶Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

²⁶ او می‌رود و هفت روح بدتر از خود را جمع می‌کند و آنها همه وارد می‌شوند و مستقر می‌گردند و در آخر، حال و روز آن مَرد از گذشته‌اش بدتر می‌شود.»

²⁷And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.

²⁷ درحالی‌که عیسی صحبت می‌کرد، زنی از میان جمعیّت با صدایی بلند گفت: «خوشا به حال آن مادری كه تو را زایید و به تو شیر داد.»

²⁸But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

²⁸ امّا او فرمود: «امّا خوشا به حال آن کسانی‌که كلام خدا را بشنوند و آن را بجا بیاورند.»

²⁹And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.

²⁹ وقتی مردم در اطراف عیسی ازدحام كردند او به صحبت خود چنین ادامه داد: «مردمان این زمانه چقدر شریرند! آنها نشانه‌ای می‌خواهند، امّا تنها نشانه‌ای كه به ایشان داده خواهد شد، نشانهٔ یونس نبی است.

³⁰For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.

³⁰ چون همان‌طور كه یونس برای مردم نینوا نشانه‌ای بود، پسر انسان نیز برای مردم این زمان نشانهٔ دیگری خواهد بود.

³¹The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

³¹ در روز داوری، ملكهٔ جنوب با مردم این روزگار زنده خواهد شد و آنان را متّهم خواهد ساخت، چون او از آن سرِ دنیا آمد تا حكمت سلیمان را بشنود، و شما بدانید آنكه در اینجاست از سلیمان بزرگتر است.

³²The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

³² مردم نینوا در روز داوری با مردم این روزگار زنده خواهند شد و علیه آنان شهادت خواهند داد، چون مردم نینوا در اثر پیام یونس توبه كردند و آنكه در اینجاست از یونس بزرگتر است.»

³³No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.

³³ «هیچ‌کس چراغ را روشن نمی‌کند كه آن را پنهان كند یا زیر تشت بگذارد، بلكه آن را روی چراغپایه قرار می‌دهد تا کسانی‌که وارد اتاق می‌شوند، نور را ببینید.

³⁴The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.

³⁴ چراغ بدن تو، چشم توست. وقتی چشمانت سالم هستند، تمام وجود تو روشن است امّا وقتی چشمهایت معیوب باشند تو در تاریكی هستی.

³⁵Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

³⁵ پس چشمان خود را باز كن مبادا نوری كه داری، تاریكی باشد.

³⁶If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.

³⁶ اگر تمام وجود تو روشن باشد و هیچ قسمت آن در تاریكی نباشد وجود تو چنان نورانی خواهد بود كه گویی چراغی نور خود را بر تو می‌تاباند.»

³⁷And as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.

³⁷ وقتی عیسی به صحبت خود خاتمه داد، یكی از فریسیان، او را به صرف غذا دعوت كرد. او وارد شد و نشست.

³⁸And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.

³⁸ فریسی با تعجّب ملاحظه كرد، كه عیسی قبل از غذا، دستهای خود را نشست.

³⁹And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

³⁹ امّا عیسی خداوند به او گفت: «ای فریسیان، شما بیرون پیاله و بشقاب را پاک می‌کنید درصورتی‌که در درون خود چیزی جز حِرص و شرارت ندارید.

⁴⁰Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?

⁴⁰ ای احمق‌ها، آیا آن کسی‌که بیرون را ساخت درون را هم نساخت؟

⁴¹But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.

⁴¹ از آنچه درون ظرفها دارید، خیرات كنید كه همه‌اش برای شما پاک خواهد شد.»

⁴²But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

⁴² «وای به حال شما ای فریسیان، شما از نعناع و سداب و انواع ادویه ده‌یک می‌دهید، امّا از اجرای عدالت و محبّت به خدا غافل هستید. اینها چیزهایی است كه شما باید بدون غافل ماندن از چیزهای دیگر به عمل آورید.»

⁴³Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

⁴³ «وای به حال شما ای فریسیان! شما صدر مجلس را در کنیسه‌ها و سلام و تعارف را در بازارها دوست دارید.

⁴⁴Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.

⁴⁴ وای به حال شما! شما مانند قبرهایی هستید كه هیچ نشانه‌ای روی آنها نیست و مردم ندانسته و نشناخته روی آنها راه می‌روند.»

⁴⁵Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also.

⁴⁵ یكی از معلّمان شریعت در جواب عیسی گفت: «ای استاد، وقتی چنین حرفهایی می‌زنی، به ما هم توهین می‌شود.»

⁴⁶And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.

⁴⁶ عیسی در جواب فرمود: «بلی، ای معلّمان شریعت، وای به حال شما نیز، چون بارهای بسیار سنگین بردوش مردم می‌گذرانید و خودتان یک انگشت هم به آن بار نمی‌زنید.

⁴⁷Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.

⁴⁷ وای به حال شما كه آرامگاه‌های انبیایی را كه نیاکان شما كشتند، می‌سازید

⁴⁸Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.

⁴⁸ و به این وسیله کارهای نیاکانتان را تأیید می‌کنید و بر آنها صِحّه می‌گذراید چون آنان مرتكب آن قتلها شدند و شما اینها را بنا می‌کنید.

⁴⁹Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:

⁴⁹ این است كه حكمت خدا می‌فرماید: 'برای ایشان انبیا و رسولان می‌فرستم، بعضی را می‌کشند و بعضی را آزار می‌رسانند،'

⁵⁰That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;

⁵⁰ تا مردم این زمانه مجبور شوند جواب خون تمام انبیایی را كه از اول پیدایش دنیا ریخته شده است بدهند،

⁵¹From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.

⁵¹ از خون هابیل گرفته تا خون زكریا كه بین قربانگاه و داخل جایگاه مقدّس در معبد بزرگ هلاک شد. آری، بدانید كه مردم این روزگار جواب همهٔ آنها را خواهند داد.»

⁵²Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.

⁵² «وای به حال شما ای معلّمان شریعت، شما كلید درِ معرفت را بر می‌‌دارید، خودتان وارد نمی‌شوید و آنانی را هم كه می‌خواهند وارد شوند، باز می‌دارید.»

⁵³And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things:

⁵³ وقتی عیسی از آن خانه بیرون رفت، علما و فریسیان با خشم و غضب دور او را گرفتند و او را در موضوعات بسیار سؤال‌پیچ نمودند و در كمین بودند كه او را با سخنان خودش به دام بیندازند.

⁵⁴Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.

⁵⁴ و در كمین بودند كه او را با سخنان خودش به دام بیندازند.
