¹Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.

¹ در این هنگام باجگیران و خطاكاران ازدحام كرده بودند تا به سخنان او گوش دهند.

²And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

² فریسیان و علما غرولند‌كنان گفتند: «این مرد اشخاص بی‌سر‌و‌پا را با خوشرویی می‌پذیرد و با آنان غذا می‌خورد.»

³And he spake this parable unto them, saying,

³ به این جهت عیسی مَثَلی آورد و گفت:

⁴What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

⁴ «فرض كنید یكی از شما صد گوسفند داشته باشد و یكی از آنها را گُم كند، آیا نود و نُه تای دیگر را در چراگاه نمی‌گذارد و به دنبال آن گمشده نمی‌رود تا آن را پیدا كند؟

⁵And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

⁵ و وقتی آن را پیدا كرد با خوشحالی آن را به دوش می‌گیرد

⁶And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.

⁶ و به خانه می‌رود و همهٔ دوستان و همسایگان را جمع می‌کند و می‌گوید: 'با من شادی كنید، گوسفند گمشدهٔ خود را پیدا کرده‌ام.'

⁷I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

⁷ بدانید كه به همان طریق برای یک گناهكار كه توبه می‌کند در آسمان بیشتر شادی و سرور خواهد بود تا برای نود و نه شخص پرهیزکار كه نیازی به توبه ندارند.

⁸Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?

⁸ «و یا فرض كنید زنی ده سکّهٔ نقره داشته باشد و یكی را گُم كند آیا چراغی روشن نمی‌کند و خانه را جارو نمی‌نماید و در هر گوشه به دنبال آن نمی‌گردد تا آن را پیدا كند؟

⁹And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.

⁹ و وقتی پیدا كرد همهٔ دوستان و همسایگان خود را جمع می‌کند و می‌گوید: 'با من شادی كنید، سکّه‌ای را كه گُم كرده بودم، پیدا كردم.'

¹⁰Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

¹⁰ به همان طریق بدانید كه برای یک گناهكار كه توبه می‌کند در میان فرشتگان خدا، شادی و سرور خواهد بود.»

¹¹And he said, A certain man had two sons:

¹¹ باز فرمود: «مردی بود كه دو پسر داشت.

¹²And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

¹² پسر كوچكتر به پدر گفت: 'پدر، سهم مرا از دارایی خودت به من بده.' پس پدر دارایی خود را بین آن دو تقسیم كرد.

¹³And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

¹³ چند روز بعد پسر كوچک تمام سهم خود را به پول نقد تبدیل كرد و رهسپار سرزمین دوردستی شد و در آنجا دارایی خود را در عیاشی به باد داد.

¹⁴And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.

¹⁴ وقتی تمام آن را خرج كرد قحطی سختی در آن سرزمین رخ داد و او سخت دچار تنگدستی شد.

¹⁵And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

¹⁵ پس رفت و نوكر یكی از مَلاّكین آن محل شد. آن شخص او را به مزرعهٔ خود فرستاد تا خوكهایش را بچراند.

¹⁶And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

¹⁶ او آرزو داشت شكم خود را با نواله‌هایی كه خوكها می‌خورند پُر كند ولی هیچ‌کس به او چیزی نمی‌داد.

¹⁷And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

¹⁷ سرانجام به خود آمد و گفت: 'بسیاری از کارگران پدر من نان كافی و حتّی اضافی دارند و من در اینجا نزدیک است از گرسنگی تلف شوم.

¹⁸I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

¹⁸ من برمی‌‌خیزم و پیش پدر خود می‌روم و به او می‌گویم: پدر، من نسبت به خدا و نسبت به تو گناه کرده‌ام.

¹⁹And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

¹⁹ دیگر لایق آن نیستم كه پسر تو خوانده شوم. با من هم مثل یكی از نوكران خود رفتار كن.'

²⁰And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

²⁰ پس برخاست و رهسپار خانهٔ پدر شد. «هنوز تا خانه فاصلهٔ زیادی داشت كه پدرش او را دید و دلش به حال او سوخت و به طرف او دوید، دست به گردنش انداخت و به گرمی او را بوسید.

²¹And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.

²¹ پسر گفت: 'پدر، من نسبت به خدا و نسبت به تو گناه کرده‌ام. دیگر لایق آن نیستم كه پسر تو خوانده شوم.'

²²But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:

²² امّا پدر به نوكران خود گفت: 'زود بروید. بهترین ردا را بیاورید و به او بپوشانید. انگشتری به انگشتش و كفش به پاهایش كنید.

²³And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:

²³ گوسالهٔ پرواری را بیاورید و سر ببرید تا مجلس جشنی برپا كنیم،

²⁴For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

²⁴ چون این پسر من مرده بود، زنده شده و گُمشده بود، پیدا شده است.' به این ترتیب جشن و سرور شروع شد.

²⁵Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.

²⁵ «در این هنگام پسر بزرگتر در مزرعه بود و وقتی بازگشت، همین‌که به خانه نزدیک شد صدای رقص و موسیقی را شنید.

²⁶And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.

²⁶ یكی از نوكران را صدا كرد و پرسید: 'جریان چیست؟'

²⁷And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.

²⁷ نوكر به او گفت: 'برادرت آمده و پدرت چون او را صحیح و سالم باز یافته، گوسالهٔ پرواری را كشته است.'

²⁸And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.

²⁸ امّا پسر بزرگ قهر كرد و به هیچ‌وجه نمی‌خواست به داخل بیاید پدرش بیرون آمد و به او التماس نمود.

²⁹And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

²⁹ امّا او در جواب پدر گفت: 'تو خوب می‌دانی كه من در این چند سال چطور مانند یک غلام به تو خدمت کرده‌ام و هیچ‌وقت از اوامر تو سرپیچی نکرده‌ام و تو حتّی یک بُزغاله هم به من ندادی تا با دوستان خود خوش بگذرانم.

³⁰But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.

³⁰ امّا حالا كه این پسرت پیدا شده، بعد از آنكه همهٔ ثروت تو را با فاحشه‌ها تلف كرده است برای او گوسالهٔ پرواری می‌کشی.'

³¹And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.

³¹ پدر گفت: 'پسرم، تو همیشه با من هستی و هرچه من دارم مال توست. امّا ما باید جشن بگیریم و شادی كنیم، زیرا این برادر توست كه مرده بود، زنده شده است و گُمشده بود، پیدا شده است.'»

³²It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

³² امّا ما باید جشن بگیریم و شادی كنیم، زیرا این برادر توست كه مرده بود، زنده شده است و گُمشده بود، پیدا شده است.'»
