¹And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate.

¹ سپس تمام حاضران در مجلس برخاستند و او را به حضور پیلاطس آوردند

²And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.

² و علیه او شكایت خود را این‌طور شروع كردند: «ما این شخص را در حالی دیدیم كه به منحرف كردن ملّت ما مشغول بود. او با پرداخت مالیات به قیصر مخالفت می‌كرد و ادّعا می‌کند كه مسیح یعنی پادشاه است.»

³And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.

³ پیلاطس از او پرسید: «آیا تو پادشاه یهودیان هستی؟» عیسی جواب داد: «تو می‌گویی.»

⁴Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.

⁴ پیلاطس سپس به سران كاهنان و جماعت گفت: «من در این مرد هیچ تقصیری نمی‌بینم.»

⁵And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.

⁵ امّا آنان پافشاری می‌کردند و می‌گفتند: «او مردم را در سراسر یهودیه با تعالیم خود می‌شوراند. از جلیل شروع كرد و به اینجا رسیده است.»

⁶When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean.

⁶ هنگامی‌که پیلاطس این را شنید پرسید كه آیا این مرد جلیلی است.

⁷And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.

⁷ وقتی آگاه شد كه به قلمرو هیرودیس تعلّق دارد او را پیش هیرودیس كه در آن موقع در اورشلیم بود فرستاد.

⁸And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.

⁸ وقتی هیرودیس عیسی را دید بسیار خوشحال شد، زیرا دربارهٔ او مطالبی شنیده بود و مدّتها بود می‌خواست او را ببیند و امید داشت كه شاهد معجزاتی از دست او باشد.

⁹Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.

⁹ از او سؤالات فراوانی كرد امّا عیسی هیچ جوابی نداد.

¹⁰And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.

¹⁰ سران كاهنان و علما جلو آمدند و اتّهامات شدیدی به او وارد كردند.

¹¹And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.

¹¹ پس هیرودیس و سربازانش به عیسی اهانت كرده، او را مسخره نمودند و ردای پُر زَرق و بَرقی به او پوشانیده، او را پیش پیلاطس پس فرستاد.

¹²And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.

¹² در همان روز هیرودیس و پیلاطس آشتی كردند، زیرا دشمنی دیرینه‌ای تا آن زمان بین آن دو وجود داشت.

¹³And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,

¹³ پیلاطس در این موقع سران كاهنان، رهبران قوم و مردم را احضار كرد

¹⁴Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:

¹⁴ و به آنان گفت: «شما این مرد را به اتّهام اخلالگری پیش من آوردید. امّا چنانكه می‌دانید خود من در حضور شما از او بازپرسی كردم و در او چیزی كه اتّهامات شما را تأیید كند نیافتم.

¹⁵No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.

¹⁵ هیرودیس هم دلیلی پیدا نكرد، چون او را پیش ما برگردانیده است. واضح است كه او كاری نكرده است كه مستوجب مرگ باشد.

¹⁶I will therefore chastise him, and release him.

¹⁶ بنابراین او را پس از تازیانه زدن آزاد می‌كنم.» [

¹⁷(For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)

¹⁷ زیرا لازم بود كه هر عیدی یک نفر زندانی را برای آنها آزاد كند.]

¹⁸And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:

¹⁸ امّا همه با صدای بلند گفتند: «اعدامش كن! برای ما باراباس را آزاد كن.»

¹⁹(Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)

¹⁹ (این شخص به‌خاطر شورشی كه در شهر اتّفاق افتاده بود و به علّت آدمكشی زندانی شده بود.)

²⁰Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.

²⁰ چون پیلاطس مایل بود عیسی را آزاد سازد بار دیگر سخن خود را به‌ گوش جماعت رسانید

²¹But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.

²¹ امّا آنها فریاد كردند: «مصلوبش كن، مصلوبش كن!»

²²And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.

²² برای سومین بار به ایشان گفت: «چرا؟ مرتكب چه جنایتی شده است؟ من او را در هیچ مورد، مستوجب اعدام ندیدم. بنابراین او را پس از تازیانه زدن آزاد می‌کنم.»

²³And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.

²³ امّا آنان در تقاضای خود پافشاری كردند و فریاد می‌زدند كه عیسی باید به صلیب میخكوب شود. فریادهای ایشان غالب آمد

²⁴And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.

²⁴ و پیلاطس حكمی را كه آنان می‌خواستند صادر كرد.

²⁵And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

²⁵ بنابر درخواست ایشان، مردی را كه به‌خاطر یاغی‌گری و آدمكشی به زندان افتاده بود آزاد كرد و عیسی را در اختیار آنان گذاشت.

²⁶And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.

²⁶ هنگامی‌كه او را برای اعدام می‌بردند مردی را به ‌نام شمعون كه اهل قیروان بود و از صحرا به شهر می‌آمد گرفتند. صلیب را روی دوش او گذاشتند و او را مجبور كردند كه آن را به دنبال عیسی ببرد.

²⁷And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.

²⁷ جمعیّت بزرگی از جمله زنانی كه به‌خاطر عیسی به سینهٔ خود می‌زدند و عزاداری می‌کردند از عقب او می‌آمدند.

²⁸But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.

²⁸ عیسی روبه آنان كرد و فرمود: «ای دختران اورشلیم، برای من اشک نریزید، برای خودتان و فرزندانتان گریه كنید!

²⁹For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.

²⁹ بدانید روزهایی خواهد آمد كه خواهند گفت: 'خوشا به حال نازایان و رحم‌هایی كه بچّه نیاوردند و پستانهایی كه شیر ندادند'

³⁰Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.

³⁰ آن ‌وقت به کوهها خواهند گفت: 'به روی ما بیفتید' به تپّه‌ها خواهند گفت: 'ما را بپوشانید.'

³¹For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

³¹ اگر با چوب‌‌تر چنین كنند با چوب خشک چه خواهند كرد؟»

³²And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.

³² دو جنایتكار هم برای اعدام با او بودند

³³And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.

³³ و وقتی به محلی موسوم به «كاسهٔ‌‌سر» رسیدند، او را در آنجا به صلیب میخكوب كردند. آن جنایتكاران را هم با او مصلوب نمودند، یكی را در سمت راست و دیگری را در سمت چپ او.

³⁴Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

³⁴ عیسی گفت: «ای پدر، اینان را ببخش زیرا نمی‌دانند چه می‌كنند.» لباس‌های او را به قید قرعه میان خود تقسیم كردند.

³⁵And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.

³⁵ مردم ایستاده تماشا می‌كردند و رهبران آنان با طعنه می‌گفتند: «دیگران را نجات داد. اگر این مرد مسیح و برگزیدهٔ خداست، حالا خودش را نجات دهد.»

³⁶And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,

³⁶ سربازان هم او را مسخره كردند و جلو آمده، شراب تُرشیده به او تعارف كردند

³⁷And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.

³⁷ و گفتند: «اگر تو پادشاه یهودیان هستی خود را نجات بده.»

³⁸And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

³⁸ در بالای سر او نوشته شده بود: «پادشاه یهودیان.»

³⁹And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.

³⁹ یكی از آن جنایتكاران كه به صلیب آویخته شده بود با طعنه به او می‌گفت: «مگر تو مسیح نیستی؟ خودت و ما را نجات بده.»

⁴⁰But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?

⁴⁰ امّا آن دیگری با سرزنش به اولی جواب داد: «از خدا نمی‌ترسی؟ تو و او یكسان محكوم شده‌اید.

⁴¹And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

⁴¹ در مورد ما منصفانه عمل شده، چون ما به سزای کارهای خود می‌رسیم، امّا این مرد هیچ خطایی نكرده است.»

⁴²And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

⁴² و گفت: «ای عیسی، وقتی به سلطنت خود رسیدی مرا به‌یاد داشته باش.»

⁴³And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

⁴³ عیسی جواب داد: «خاطر جمع باش، امروز با من در فردوس خواهی بود.»

⁴⁴And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.

⁴⁴ تقریباً ظهر بود، كه تاریكی تمام آن سرزمین را فراگرفت و تا ساعت سه بعد از ظهر آفتاب گرفته بود

⁴⁵And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.

⁴⁵ و پردهٔ معبد بزرگ دو تکه شد.

⁴⁶And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

⁴⁶ عیسی با فریادی بلند گفت: «ای پدر، روح خود را به تو تسلیم می‌كنم.» این را گفت و جان داد.

⁴⁷Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.

⁴⁷ وقتی افسری كه مأمور نگهبانی بود، این جریان را دید خدا را حمد كرد و گفت: «در واقع این مرد بی‌گناه بود.»

⁴⁸And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned.

⁴⁸ جمعیّتی كه برای تماشا گرد آمده بودند وقتی ماجرا را دیدند، سینه‌زنان به خانه‌های خود برگشتند.

⁴⁹And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.

⁴⁹ آشنایان عیسی با زنانی كه از جلیل همراه او آمده بودند، همگی در فاصلهٔ دوری ایستاده بودند و جریان را می‌دیدند.

⁵⁰And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just:

⁵⁰ در آنجا مردی به ‌نام یوسف حضور داشت كه یكی از اعضای شورای یهود بود. او مردی نیکنام و درستكار بود.

⁵¹(The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.

⁵¹ یوسف به تصمیم شورا و كاری كه در پیش گرفته بودند رأی مخالف داده بود. او از اهالی یک شهر یهودی به ‌نام رامه بود و از ‌آن كسانی بود كه در انتظار پادشاهی خدا به سر می‌بردند.

⁵²This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.

⁵² این مرد در این ‌موقع پیش پیلاطس رفت و جنازهٔ عیسی را خواست.

⁵³And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.

⁵³ سپس آن را پایین آورد و در كتان لطیف پیچید و در مقبره‌ای كه از سنگ تراشیده شده بود و پیش از آن كسی را در آن نگذاشته بودند قرار داد.

⁵⁴And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.

⁵⁴ آن روز، روز تدارک بود و روز سبت از آن ساعت شروع می‌شد.

⁵⁵And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.

⁵⁵ زنانی كه از جلیل همراه عیسی ‌آمده بودند به‌ دنبال یوسف رفتند. آنها مقبره و طرز تدفین او را دیدند. سپس به خانه رفتند و حنوط و عطریّات تهیّه كردند و در روز سبت طبق دستور شریعت استراحت نمودند.

⁵⁶And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
