¹Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.

¹ وقتی عیسی تمام این سخنان را به مردم گفت به شهر كفرناحوم رفت.

²And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.

² سروانی در آنجا خادمی داشت كه در نظرش بسیار گرامی بود. این خادم بیمار شد و نزدیک بود بمیرد.

³And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.

³ آن سروان دربارهٔ عیسی چیزهایی شنیده بود. پس عدّه‌ای از رهبران یهود را پیش او فرستاد تا از او تقاضا نمایند بیاید و غلامش را شفا دهد.

⁴And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:

⁴ ایشان نزد عیسی آمدند و با اصرار و التماس گفتند: «او سزاوار این لطف توست

⁵For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.

⁵ چون ملّت ما را دوست دارد و او بود كه كنیسه را برای ما ساخت.»

⁶Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:

⁶ عیسی با آنان به راه افتاد و وقتی به نزدیکی‌های خانه رسید، آن سروان دوستانی را با این پیغام فرستاد كه: «ای آقا بیش از این به خودت زحمت نده. من لایق آن نیستم كه تو به زیر سقف خانه‌ام بیایی

⁷Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.

⁷ و به همین سبب بود كه روی آن را نداشتم شخصاً به خدمت تو بیایم فقط فرمان بده و غلام من خوب خواهد شد،

⁸For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

⁸ زیرا من خود مأمور هستم و سربازانی هم تحت فرمان خود دارم و به یكی می‌گویم 'برو' می‌رود و به دیگری 'بیا' می‌آید و به غلام می‌گویم 'فلان كار را بكن،' البتّه می‌کند.»

⁹When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

⁹ عیسی وقتی این را شنید تعجّب كرد و به جمعیّتی كه پشت سرش می‌آمدند رو كرد و فرمود: «بدانید كه من حتّی در اسرائیل هم، چنین ایمانی ندیده‌ام.»

¹⁰And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.

¹⁰ قاصدان به خانه برگشتند و غلام را سالم و تندرست یافتند.

¹¹And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.

¹¹ فردای آن روز عیسی با شاگردان خود به اتّفاق جمعیّت زیادی به شهری به نام نائین رفت.

¹²Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.

¹² همین‌که به دروازهٔ شهر رسید با تشییع جنازه‌ای روبه‌رو شد. شخصی كه مرده بود، پسر یگانهٔ یک بیوه‌زن بود. بسیاری از مردم شهر همراه آن زن بودند.

¹³And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.

¹³ وقتی عیسی خداوند آن مادر را دید، دلش به حال او سوخت و فرمود: «دیگر گریه نكن.»

¹⁴And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.

¹⁴ عیسی جلوتر رفت و دست خود را روی تابوت گذاشت و کسانی‌که تابوت را می‌بردند، ایستادند. عیسی فرمود: «ای جوان به تو می‌گویم برخیز.»

¹⁵And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.

¹⁵ آن مرده نشست و شروع به صحبت كرد عیسی او را به مادرش باز گردانید.

¹⁶And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.

¹⁶ همه ترسیدند و خدا را تمجید كرده گفتند: «نبیِ بزرگی در میان ما ظهور كرده است.» و همچنین می‌گفتند: «خدا به قوم خود توجّه نموده است.»

¹⁷And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about.

¹⁷ خبر آنچه كه عیسی كرده بود در سراسر استان یهودیه و همهٔ اطراف آن منتشر شد.

¹⁸And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.

¹⁸ یحیی نیز به وسیلهٔ شاگردان خود از همهٔ این امور باخبر شد. دو نفر از ایشان را احضار كرد

¹⁹And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

¹⁹ و آنها را با این پیغام، پیش عیسی خداوند فرستاد: «آیا تو آن كسی هستی كه قرار است بیاید یا منتظر دیگری باشیم؟»

²⁰When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

²⁰ آن دو نفر پیش عیسی آمدند و عرض كردند: «یحیی تعمید‌دهنده، ما را پیش تو فرستاده است تا بداند: آیا تو آن كسی هستی كه قرار است بیاید یا باید منتظر دیگری باشیم؟»

²¹And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.

²¹ همان ساعت عیسی عدّهٔ كثیری را كه گرفتار ناخوشی‌ها، بلاها و ارواح پلید بودند، شفا داد و به نابینایان زیادی بینایی بخشید.

²²Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.

²² بعد به ایشان پاسخ داد: «بروید و آنچه را كه دیده و شنیده‌اید به یحیی بگویید كه چگونه كوران بینا، لنگان خرامان، جذامیان پاک، كرها شنوا و مردگان برخیزانیده می‌شوند و به بینوایان مژده می‌رسد.

²³And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

²³ خوشا به حال کسی‌که دربارهٔ من شک نكند.»

²⁴And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

²⁴ بعد از آنكه قاصدان یحیی رفتند عیسی دربارهٔ او برای مردم شروع به صحبت كرد و گفت: «وقتی به بیابان رفتید انتظار دیدن چه چیز را داشتید؟ نیِ نیزاری كه از باد می‌لرزد؟

²⁵But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.

²⁵ برای دیدن چه چیز بیرون رفتید؟ مردی با لباسهای حریر و دیبا؟ بدون شک اشخاصی كه لباسهای زیبا می‌پوشند و زندگانی پر تجمّلی دارند در قصرها به سر می‌برند.

²⁶But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.

²⁶ پس برای دیدن چه چیز بیرون رفتید؟ یک نبی؟ آری، بدانید از نبی هم بالاتر.

²⁷This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

²⁷ او مردی است كه کتاب‌مقدّس درباره‌اش می‌فرماید: 'این است قاصد من كه پیشاپیش تو می‌فرستم. او راه تو را پیش پایت آماده خواهد ساخت.'

²⁸For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

²⁸ بدانید كه كسی بزرگتر از یحیی به دنیا نیامده است و با وجود این، كوچكترین شخص در پادشاهی خدا از او بزرگتر است.»

²⁹And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

²⁹ همهٔ مردم و از جمله باجگیران، سخنان عیسی را شنیدند و به سبب اینكه از دست یحیی، تعمید گرفته بودند، خدا را برای عدالتش شكر می‌کردند.

³⁰But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.

³⁰ امّا فریسیان و معلّمان شریعت كه تعمید یحیی را قبول نكرده بودند، نقشه‌ای را كه خدا برای آنان داشت رد كردند.

³¹And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?

³¹ «مردم این زمانه را به چه چیز می‌توانم تشبیه كنم؟ آنان به چه می‌مانند؟

³²They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.

³² مانند كودكانی هستند كه در بازار می‌نشینند و بر سر هم فریاد می‌کشند و می‌گویند: 'برای شما نی زدیم نرقصیدید! نوحه‌گری كردیم، گریه نكردید!'

³³For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil.

³³ مقصود این است كه یحیای تعمید‌دهنده آمد كه نه نان می‌خورد و نه شراب می‌نوشید و شما می‌گفتید: 'او دیو دارد'

³⁴The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!

³⁴ پسر انسان آمد، او هم می‌خورد، هم می‌نوشد و شما می‌گویید: 'نگاه كنید، یک آدم پرخور، میگسار و رفیق باجگیران و خطاكاران!'

³⁵But wisdom is justified of all her children.

³⁵ با وجود این، درستی حكمت خدایی به وسیلهٔ کسانی‌که آن را پذیرفته‌‌اند، به ثبوت می‌رسد.»

³⁶And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.

³⁶ یكی از فریسیان عیسی را برای صرف غذا دعوت كرد. او به خانهٔ آن فریسی رفت و بر سر سفره نشست.

³⁷And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,

³⁷ در آن شهر زن گناهکاری زندگی می‌کرد. چون او شنید كه عیسی در خانهٔ آن فریسی غذا می‌خورد در گلابدانی سنگی، روغنی معطّر آورد.

³⁸And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

³⁸ پشت سر عیسی و كنار پاهای او قرار گرفت و گریه می‌کرد. چون اشكهایش پاهای عیسی را تر كرد، آنها را با گیسوان خود خشک نمود و پاهای عیسی را می‌بوسید و به آنها روغن می‌مالید.

³⁹Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.

³⁹ وقتی میزبان یعنی آن فریسی این را دید پیش خود گفت: «اگر این مرد واقعاً نبی بود، می‌دانست این زنی که او را لمس می‌کند کیست و چطور زنی است، او یک زن بدكاره است.»

⁴⁰And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.

⁴⁰ عیسی به فریسی گفت: «شمعون، مطلبی دارم برایت بگویم.» گفت: «بفرما، استاد.»

⁴¹There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.

⁴¹ فرمود: «دو نفر از شخصی وام گرفته بودند، یكی به او پانصد سکّهٔ نقره بدهكار بود و دیگری پنجاه سکّهٔ نقره.

⁴²And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?

⁴² چون هیچ‌یک از آن دو نفر چیزی نداشت كه به او بدهد، طلبكار هر دو را بخشید. حالا کدام‌یک از آن دو او را بیشتر دوست خواهد داشت؟»

⁴³Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

⁴³ شمعون جواب داد: «گمان می‌کنم آن کسی‌که بیشتر به او بخشیده شد.» عیسی فرمود: «قضاوت تو درست است.»

⁴⁴And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.

⁴⁴ و سپس رو به آن زن كرد و به شمعون فرمود: «این زن را می‌بینی؟ من به خانهٔ تو آمدم و تو برای پاهایم آب نیاوردی. امّا این زن پاهای مرا با اشک چشم شست و با گیسوان خود خشک كرد.

⁴⁵Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.

⁴⁵ تو هیچ مرا نبوسیدی امّا این زن از وقتی‌که من وارد شدم از بوسیدن پاهایم دست برنمی‌دارد.

⁴⁶My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.

⁴⁶ تو به سر من روغن نزدی امّا او به پاهای من روغن معطّر مالید.

⁴⁷Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

⁴⁷ بنابراین بدان كه محبّت فراوان او نشان می‌دهد كه گناهان بسیارش آمرزیده شده است و کسی‌که كم بخشیده شده باشد، كم محبّت می‌نماید.»

⁴⁸And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

⁴⁸ بعد به آن زن فرمود: «گناهان تو بخشیده شده است.»

⁴⁹And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?

⁴⁹ سایر مهمانان از یكدیگر می‌پرسیدند: «این كیست كه حتّی گناهان را هم می‌آمرزد؟» امّا عیسی به آن زن فرمود: «ایمان تو، تو را نجات داده است، بسلامت برو.»

⁵⁰And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

⁵⁰ امّا عیسی به آن زن فرمود: «ایمان تو، تو را نجات داده است، بسلامت برو.»
