¹And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.

¹ عیسی آنجا را ترک كرد و به شهر خود آمد، شاگردانش نیز به دنبال او آمدند.

²And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

² در روز سبت، عیسی در كنیسه شروع به تعلیم دادن كرد. جمعیّت زیادی كه صحبتهای او را شنیدند با تعجّب می‌گفتند: «این چیزها را از كجا یاد گرفته است؟ این چه حكمتی است كه به او داده شده كه می‌تواند چنین معجزاتی را انجام دهد؟

³Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

³ این مگر آن نجّار، پسر مریم و برادر یعقوب و یوسف و یهودا و شمعون نیست؟ مگر خواهران او در بین ما نیستند؟» به این سبب آنها از او رویگردان شدند.

⁴But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

⁴ عیسی به آنها فرمود: «یک نبی در همه‌جا مورد احترام است، جز در وطن خود و در میان خانوادهٔ خویش.»

⁵And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.

⁵ او نتوانست در آنجا هیچ معجزه‌ای انجام دهد. فقط دست خود را روی چند بیمار گذاشت و آنها را شفا داد

⁶And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

⁶ و از بی‌ایمانی آنها در حیرت بود. عیسی برای تعلیم مردم به تمام دهکده‌های آن اطراف رفت.

⁷And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;

⁷ بعد دوازده شاگرد خود را احضار كرد و آنها را دو به دو، به مأموریت فرستاد و به آنها قدرت داد تا بر ارواح پلید پیروز شوند.

⁸And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:

⁸ همچنین به آنها دستور داده گفت: «برای سفر به جز یک عصا چیزی برندارید. نه نان و نه کوله‌بار و نه پول در كمربندهای خود،

⁹But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.

⁹ فقط نعلین به پا كنید و بیش از یک پیراهن نپوشید.»

¹⁰And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place.

¹⁰ عیسی همچنین به آنها گفت: «هرگاه شما را در خانه‌ای قبول كنند تا وقتی‌که در آن شهر هستید، در آنجا بمانید

¹¹And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

¹¹ و هرجا كه شما را قبول نكنند و یا به شما گوش ندهند، از آنجا بروید و گرد پاهای خود را هم برای عبرت آنها بتكانید.»

¹²And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

¹² پس آنها به راه افتادند و در همه‌جا اعلام می‌کردند كه مردم باید توبه كنند.

¹³And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.

¹³ آنها دیوهای زیادی را بیرون كردند و بیماران بسیاری را با روغن تدهین كرده، شفا دادند.

¹⁴And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

¹⁴ هیرودیس پادشاه از این جریان باخبر شد، چون شهرت عیسی در همه‌جا پیچیده بود، بعضی می‌گفتند: «یحیی تعمید‌دهنده زنده شده است و به همین جهت معجزات بزرگی از او به ظهور می‌رسد.»

¹⁵Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.

¹⁵ دیگران می‌گفتند: «او الیاس است.» عدّه‌ای هم می‌گفتند: «او نبی‌ای مانند سایر انبیاست.»

¹⁶But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.

¹⁶ امّا وقتی هیرودیس این را شنید گفت: «این همان یحیی است كه من سرش را از تن جدا كردم، او زنده شده است.»

¹⁷For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her.

¹⁷ هیرودیس به درخواست زن خود هیرودیا، دستور داد یحیای تعمید‌دهنده را دستگیر كنند و او را در بند نهاده به زندان بیندازند. هیرودیا قبلاً زن فیلیپُس برادر هیرودیس بود.

¹⁸For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.

¹⁸ یحیی به هیرودیس گفته بود: «تو نباید با زن برادر خود ازدواج كنی.»

¹⁹Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:

¹⁹ هیرودیا این كینه را در دل داشت و می‌‌خواست او را به قتل برساند امّا نمی‌توانست.

²⁰For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.

²⁰ هیرودیس از یحیی می‌ترسید؛ زیرا می‌دانست او مرد خوب و مقدّسی است و به این سبب رعایت حال او را می‌‌نمود و دوست داشت به سخنان او گوش دهد. اگرچه هروقت سخنان او را می‌شنید ناراحت می‌شد.

²¹And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;

²¹ سرانجام هیرودیا فرصت مناسبی به دست آورد. هیرودیس در روز تولّد خود جشنی ترتیب داد و وقتی تمام بزرگان و امرا و اشراف جلیل حضور داشتند،

²²And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.

²² دختر هیرودیا وارد مجلس شد و رقصید. هیرودیس و مهمانانش از رقص او بسیار لذّت بردند، به طوری که پادشاه به دختر گفت: «هرچه بخواهی به تو خواهم داد.»

²³And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.

²³ و برایش سوگند یاد كرده گفت: «هرچه از من بخواهی، حتّی نصف مملكتم را به تو خواهم داد.»

²⁴And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.

²⁴ دختر بیرون رفت و به مادر خود گفت: «چه بخواهم؟» مادرش جواب داد: «سر یحیای تعمید‌دهنده را.»

²⁵And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.

²⁵ دختر فوراً پیش پادشاه برگشت و گفت: «از تو می‌خواهم كه در همین ساعت سر یحیای تعمید‌دهنده را در داخل یک سینی به من بدهی.»

²⁶And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.

²⁶ پادشاه بسیار متأسف شد، امّا به‌خاطر سوگند خود و به احترام مهمانانش صلاح ندانست كه خواهش او را رد كند.

²⁷And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,

²⁷ پس فوراً جلاّد را فرستاد و دستور داد كه سر یحیی را بیاورد. جلاّد رفت و در زندان سر او را برید

²⁸And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.

²⁸ و آن را در داخل یک سینی آورد و به دختر داد و دختر آن را به مادر خود داد.

²⁹And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.

²⁹ وقتی این خبر به شاگردان یحیی رسید، آنها آمدند و جنازهٔ او را برداشتند و در مقبره‌ای دفن كردند.

³⁰And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.

³⁰ رسولان پیش عیسی برگشتند و گزارش همهٔ كارها و تعالیم خود را به عرض او رسانیدند.

³¹And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

³¹ چون آمد و رفتِ مردم آن‌قدر زیاد بود كه عیسی و شاگردانش حتّی فرصت غذا خوردن هم نداشتند، عیسی به ایشان فرمود: «خودتان تنها بیایید كه به جای خلوتی برویم تا كمی استراحت كنید.»

³²And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.

³² پس آنها به تنهایی با قایق به طرف جای خلوتی رفتند،

³³And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.

³³ امّا عدّهٔ زیادی آنها را دیدند كه آنجا را ترک می‌کردند. مردم آنها را شناختند و از تمام شهرها از راه خشكی به طرف آن محل دویدند و قبل از آنها به آنجا رسیدند.

³⁴And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

³⁴ وقتی عیسی به خشكی رسید، جمعیّت زیادی را دید و دلش برای آنها سوخت چون مانند گوسفندان بی‌شبان بودند. پس به تعلیم آنان پرداخت و مطالب زیادی بیان كرد.

³⁵And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:

³⁵ چون نزدیک غروب بود، شاگردانش نزد او آمده گفتند: «اینجا بیابان است و روز هم به پایان رسیده است.

³⁶Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.

³⁶ مردم را مرخّص بفرما تا به مزارع و دهکده‌های اطراف بروند و برای خودشان خوراک بخرند.»

³⁷He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?

³⁷ امّا او جواب داد: «خودتان به آنها خوراک بدهید.» آنها گفتند: «آیا می‌خواهی برویم و در حدود دویست سکّهٔ نقره نان بخریم تا غذایی به آنها بدهیم؟»

³⁸He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.

³⁸ عیسی از آنها پرسید: «چند نان دارید؟ بروید ببینید.» شاگردان تحقیق كردند و گفتند: «پنج نان و دو ماهی.»

³⁹And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.

³⁹ عیسی دستور داد كه، شاگردانش مردم را دسته‌دسته روی علفها بنشانند.

⁴⁰And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.

⁴⁰ مردم در دسته‌های صد نفری و پنجاه نفری روی زمین نشستند.

⁴¹And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.

⁴¹ بعد عیسی پنج نان و دو ماهی را گرفت، به آسمان نگاه كرد و خدا را شكر نموده و نانها را پاره كرد و به شاگردان داد تا بین مردم تقسیم كنند. او همچنین آن دو ماهی را میان آنها تقسیم كرد.

⁴²And they did all eat, and were filled.

⁴² همه خوردند و سیر شدند

⁴³And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.

⁴³ و شاگردان، دوازده سبد پر از خُرده‌های باقی ماندهٔ نان و ماهی جمع كردند.

⁴⁴And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.

⁴⁴ در میان کسانی‌که از نانها خوردند، پنج هزار مرد بودند.

⁴⁵And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.

⁴⁵ بعد از این كار، عیسی فوراً شاگردان خود را سوار قایق كرد تا پیش از او به بیت‌صیدا در آن طرف دریا بروند تا خودش مردم را مرخّص كند.

⁴⁶And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.

⁴⁶ پس از آنكه عیسی با مردم خداحافظی كرد، برای دعا به بالای كوهی رفت.

⁴⁷And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.

⁴⁷ وقتی شب شد، قایق به وسط دریا رسید و عیسی در ساحل تنها بود.

⁴⁸And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.

⁴⁸ بین ساعت سه و شش صبح بود كه دید شاگردانش گرفتار باد مخالف شده و با زحمت زیاد پارو می‌زنند. پس قدم زنان در روی آب به طرف آنها رفت و می‌‌خواست از كنار آنها رد شود.

⁴⁹But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:

⁴⁹ وقتی شاگردان او را دیدند كه روی دریا راه می‌رود، خیال كردند كه یک شبح است و فریاد می‌زدند،

⁵⁰For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.

⁵⁰ چون همه او را دیده و ترسیده بودند. امّا عیسی فوراً صحبت کرده فرمود: «جرأت داشته باشید، من هستم نترسید!»

⁵¹And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.

⁵¹ بعد سوار قایق شد و باد ایستاد و آنها بی‌اندازه تعجّب كردند.

⁵²For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.

⁵² ذهن آنها كُند شده بود و از موضوع نانها هم چیزی نفهمیده بودند.

⁵³And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.

⁵³ آنها از دریا گذشتند و به سرزمین جِنیسارت رسیده و در آنجا لنگر انداختند.

⁵⁴And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,

⁵⁴ وقتی از قایق بیرون آمدند، مردم فوراً عیسی را شناختند

⁵⁵And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.

⁵⁵ و با عجله به تمام آن حدود رفتند و مریضان را بر روی بسترهایشان به جایی‌که می‌شنیدند عیسی بود، بردند. به هر شهر و ده و مزرعه‌ای كه عیسی می‌رفت، مردم بیماران خود را به آنجا می‌بردند و در سر راه او می‌گذاشتند و از او التماس می‌کردند كه به بیماران اجازه دهد، دامن قبای او را لمس كنند و هرکس كه لمس می‌کرد، شفا می‌یافت.

⁵⁶And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.

⁵⁶ به هر شهر و ده و مزرعه‌ای كه عیسی می‌رفت، مردم بیماران خود را به آنجا می‌بردند و در سر راه او می‌گذاشتند و از او التماس می‌کردند كه به بیماران اجازه دهد، دامن قبای او را لمس كنند و هرکس كه لمس می‌کرد، شفا می‌یافت.
