¹At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,

¹ در این وقت اخبار مربوط به عیسی به اطّلاع هیرودیس پادشاه رسید.

²And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

² او به ملازمان خود گفت: «این مرد همان یحیای تعمید‌دهنده است كه پس از مرگ زنده شده است و به همین جهت معجزات بزرگی از او به ظهور می‌رسد.»

³For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.

³ زیرا هیرودیس به‌خاطر هیرودیا كه زن برادرش فیلیپُس بود، یحیی را گرفته و دست و پای او را در بند نهاده و به زندان انداخته بود.

⁴For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

⁴ چون یحیی به هیرودیس گفته بود: «تو حق نداری با این زن ازدواج كنی.»

⁵And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

⁵ هیرودیس می‌‌خواست او را بكُشد امّا از مردم می‌ترسید، زیرا در نظر مردم یحیی یک نبی بود.

⁶But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

⁶ ولی در موقع جشن تولّد هیرودیس، دختر هیرودیا در برابر مهمانان رقصید و هیرودیس آن‌قدر از رقص او خوشحال شد،

⁷Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.

⁷ كه قسم خورد هرچه بخواهد به او بدهد.

⁸And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.

⁸ او با راهنمایی مادرش گفت: «‌سر یحیای تعمید‌دهنده را همین حالا در داخل یک سینی به من بده.»

⁹And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.

⁹ پادشاه از شنیدن این سخن ناراحت شد، ولی به پاس سوگند خود و به‌خاطر مهمانانش دستور داد كه سر یحیی را به او بدهند.

¹⁰And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.

¹⁰ او کسانی را به زندان فرستاده سر یحیی را از تن جدا كرد

¹¹And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.

¹¹ و سر او را كه در داخل سینی بود، آورده به دختر دادند و او آن را نزد مادر خود برد.

¹²And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.

¹² سپس شاگردان یحیی آمده بدن او را بردند و آن را به خاک سپردند. پس از آن آنها به نزد عیسی رفتند و به او خبر دادند.

¹³When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.

¹³ عیسی وقتی این خبر را شنید، آنجا را ترک كرد و با قایق به جای خلوتی رفت. امّا مردم باخبر شده دسته‌دسته از شهرهای خود از راه خشكی به دنبال او رفتند.

¹⁴And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

¹⁴ همین‌که عیسی به ساحل رسید، جمعیّت زیادی را دید و دلش به حال آنها سوخت و مریضان آنان را شفا داد.

¹⁵And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.

¹⁵ عصر همان روز شاگردانش نزد او آمده گفتند: «اینجا بیابان است و روز هم به آخر رسیده، مردم را به روستاها بفرست تا برای خودشان غذا بخرند.»

¹⁶But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

¹⁶ عیسی به ایشان گفت: «احتیاجی نیست مردم بروند، خود شما به آنان خوراک بدهید.»

¹⁷And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.

¹⁷ شاگردان گفتند: «‌ما فقط پنج نان و دو ماهی داریم.»

¹⁸He said, Bring them hither to me.

¹⁸ عیسی در جواب فرمود: «آنها را پیش من بیاورید»

¹⁹And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

¹⁹ و پس از آن به مردم دستور داد كه روی سبزه‌‌ها بنشینند. آنگاه پنج نان و دو ماهی را گرفته به آسمان نگاه كرد و خدا را شكر نموده نانها را پاره كرد و به شاگردان داد و شاگردان آنها را به مردم دادند.

²⁰And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

²⁰ همه خوردند و سیر شدند و از خُرده‌های باقیمانده كه شاگردان جمع كردند، دوازده زنبیل بزرگ پر شد.

²¹And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

²¹ غیراز زنها و كودكان پنج هزار مرد خوراک خوردند.

²²And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

²² آنگاه عیسی شاگردان را وادار ساخت كه سوار قایق شده قبل از او به طرف دیگر دریا بروند تا خودش مردم را مرخّص نماید.

²³And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

²³ پس از انجام این كار عیسی به بالای كوهی رفت تا به تنهایی دعا كند. وقتی شب شد او در آنجا تنها بود.

²⁴But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

²⁴ در این موقع قایق در وسط دریا به علّت باد مخالف، گرفتار امواج شده بود.

²⁵And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

²⁵ بین ساعت سه و شش صبح عیسی درحالی‌که بر روی دریا قدم می‌زد نزد آنها آمد.

²⁶And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

²⁶ وقتی شاگردان عیسی را دیدند كه برروی آب دریا راه می‌رود آن‌قدر ترسیدند كه با وحشت فریاد زده گفتند: «این یک شبح است.»

²⁷But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

²⁷ عیسی فوراً به ایشان گفت: «دل قوی دارید، ‌من هستم، نترسید.»

²⁸And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

²⁸ پطرس گفت: «ای خداوند اگر تو هستی به من دستور بده تا من هم بر روی آب نزد تو بیایم.»

²⁹And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

²⁹ عیسی فرمود: «بیا.» ‌پطرس از قایق پایین آمد و بر روی آب به طرف عیسی رفت.

³⁰But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

³⁰ امّا وقتی شدّت توفان را دید، ‌به وحشت افتاد و درحالی‌که در آب غرق می‌شد فریاد زد: «خداوندا، ‌نجاتم بده.»

³¹And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

³¹ عیسی فوراً رسید و دست او را گرفته گفت: «ای كم ایمان، چرا شک كردی؟»

³²And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

³² آنها سوار قایق شدند و باد قطع شد

³³Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

³³ و کسانی‌که در قایق بودند به پای او افتاده می‌گفتند: «تو واقعاً ‌پسر خدا هستی.»

³⁴And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.

³⁴ آنها از دریا گذشته به سرزمین جِنیسارِت رسیدند.

³⁵And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;

³⁵ به محض اینكه مردم آن محل عیسی را شناختند کسانی را به تمام آن نواحی فرستاده همهٔ بیماران را نزد او آوردند. آنها از او تقاضا كردند كه اجازه دهد، مریضان آنها فقط دامن ردای او را لمس نمایند و هرکه آن را لمس می‌کرد، کاملاً شفا می‌یافت.

³⁶And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.

³⁶ آنها از او تقاضا كردند كه اجازه دهد، مریضان آنها فقط دامن ردای او را لمس نمایند و هرکه آن را لمس می‌کرد، کاملاً شفا می‌یافت.
