¹When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

¹ وقتی صبح شد، سران كاهنان و مشایخ قوم در جلسه‌ای تصمیم گرفتند كه چگونه عیسی را به قتل برسانند.

²And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

² پس از آن او را دست بسته برده به پیلاطس، فرماندار رومی، تحویل دادند.

³Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

³ وقتی یهودای خائن دید كه عیسی محكوم شده است، از كار خود پشیمان شد و سی سکّهٔ نقره را به سران كاهنان و مشایخ باز گردانید

⁴Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.

⁴ و گفت: «من گناه کرده‌ام كه به یک مرد بی‌گناه خیانت كرده، باعث مرگ او شده‌ام.» امّا آنها گفتند: «دیگر به ما مربوط نیست، خودت می‌دانی!»

⁵And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

⁵ پس او پولها را در معبد بزرگ روی زمین پرت كرد و بیرون رفته خود را با طناب خفه نمود.

⁶And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.

⁶ سران كاهنان پول را برداشته گفتند: «نمی‌شود این پول را به بیت‌المال معبد بزرگ ریخت، زیرا خونبهاست.»

⁷And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.

⁷ بنابراین پس از مشورت، با آن پول مزرعهٔ کوزه‌گر را خریدند تا برای خارجی‌های مقیم اورشلیم گورستانی داشته باشند.

⁸Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.

⁸ به این دلیل آن زمین تا به امروز، «مزرعهٔ خون» خوانده می‌شود.

⁹Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;

⁹ به این وسیله پیشگویی ارمیای نبی تحقّق یافت كه می‌گوید: «آنها آن سی سکّهٔ نقره، یعنی قیمتی را كه قوم اسرائیل برای او تعیین كرده بود، گرفتند

¹⁰And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.

¹⁰ و با آن مزرعهٔ کوزه‌گر را خریدند. چنانکه خداوند به من فرموده است.»

¹¹And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.

¹¹ در این هنگام عیسی را به حضور فرماندار آوردند. فرماندار از او پرسید: «آیا تو پادشاه یهودیان هستی؟» عیسی فرمود: «همان است كه می‌گویی.»

¹²And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.

¹² ولی عیسی به اتّهاماتی كه سران كاهنان و مشایخ به او وارد می‌‌نمودند جوابی نمی‌داد.

¹³Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?

¹³ آنگاه پیلاطس به او گفت: «آیا این شهادتهایی را كه علیه تو می‌دهند نمی‌شنوی؟»

¹⁴And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.

¹⁴ امّا او حتّی یک كلمه هم جواب نداد. به طوری که فرماندار بسیار تعجّب كرد.

¹⁵Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.

¹⁵ در زمان عید، رسم فرماندار این بود كه یک زندانی را به میل مردم آزاد می‌ساخت.

¹⁶And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.

¹⁶ در آن زمان شخص بسیار معروفی به نام باراباس در زندان بود.

¹⁷Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?

¹⁷ وقتی مردم اجتماع كردند، پیلاطس به آنان گفت: «می‌خواهید کدام‌یک از این دو نفر را برایتان آزاد كنم، باراباس یا عیسی معروف به مسیح را؟»

¹⁸For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.

¹⁸ زیرا او می‌دانست كه یهودیان از روی حسد عیسی را به او تسلیم کرده‌اند.

¹⁹When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.

¹⁹ هنگامی‌که پیلاطس در دیوانخانه نشسته بود، همسرش پیغامی به این شرح برای او فرستاد: «با آن مرد بی‌گناه كاری نداشته باش، من دیشب به‌خاطر او در خوابهایی كه دیدم، بسیار ناراحت بودم.»

²⁰But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

²⁰ ضمناً سران كاهنان و مشایخ، جمعیّت را تشویق نمودند كه از پیلاطس بخواهند كه باراباس را آزاد سازد و عیسی را اعدام كند.

²¹The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.

²¹ پس وقتی فرماندار از آنها پرسید: «کدام‌یک از این دو نفر را می‌خواهید برایتان آزاد سازم؟» آنها گفتند: «باراباس را.»

²²Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.

²² پیلاطس پرسید: «پس با عیسی معروف به مسیح چه كنم؟» و آنان یک صدا گفتند: «مصلوبش كن.»

²³And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.

²³ پیلاطس سؤال كرده گفت: «چرا؟ چه گناهی كرده است؟» امّا آنان با فریادی بلندتر گفتند: «مصلوبش كن.»

²⁴When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

²⁴ وقتی پیلاطس دید كه دیگر فایده‌ای ندارد و ممكن است شورشی ایجاد شود، آب خواست و پیش چشم مردم دستهای خود را شست و گفت: «من از خون این مرد بری هستم! شما مسئولید!»

²⁵Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

²⁵ مردم یک صدا فریاد كردند: «خون این مرد به گردن ما و فرزندان ما باشد!»

²⁶Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

²⁶ پس از آن باراباس را برای آنان آزاد كرد و دستور داد عیسی را تازیانه بزنند و بسپارند تا مصلوب گردد.

²⁷Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.

²⁷ سربازان پیلاطس عیسی را به حیاط كاخ فرماندار بردند و تمام سربازان به دور او جمع شدند.

²⁸And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.

²⁸ اول لباس عیسی را در آوردند و ردای ارغوانی رنگی به او پوشانیدند

²⁹And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

²⁹ و تاجی از خار بافته بر سرش نهادند و چوبی به دست او دادند و در برابر او زانو زده به طعنه می‌گفتند: «درود بر پادشاه یهود.»

³⁰And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.

³⁰ آنها آب دهان بر او انداخته و با چوبی كه در دستش بود بر سرش می‌زدند.

³¹And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

³¹ سر انجام از مسخره كردن او دست برداشتند و آن ردا را در آورده لباس خودش را به او پوشانیدند. آنگاه او را بردند تا مصلوب كنند.

³²And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.

³² در سر راه با مردی قیروانی به نام شمعون روبه‌رو شدند و او را مجبور كردند كه صلیب عیسی را حمل كند.

³³And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,

³³ وقتی به محلی به نام جلجتا یعنی جمجمه رسیدند،

³⁴They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

³⁴ شراب آمیخته به داروی بیهوش كننده به او دادند، امّا وقتی آن را چشید نخواست بنوشد.

³⁵And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.

³⁵ آنها او را به صلیب میخكوب كردند. آنگاه لباسهایش را به قید قرعه میان خود تقسیم نمودند

³⁶And sitting down they watched him there;

³⁶ و برای پاسداری در آنجا نشستند.

³⁷And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

³⁷ جرم او را بر لوحی به این شرح نوشتند: «این است عیسی، پادشاه یهود» و بر بالای سرش نصب كردند.

³⁸Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.

³⁸ دو راهزن را نیز با او مصلوب كردند، یکی در سمت راست و دیگری در سمت چپ او.

³⁹And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,

³⁹ کسانی‌که از آنجا می‌گذشتند سرهای خود را می‌جنبانیدند و با دشنام به او می‌گفتند:

⁴⁰And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.

⁴⁰ «تو كه می‌خواستی معبد بزرگ را خراب کنی و آن را در سه روز از نو بسازی، اگر واقعاً پسر خدا هستی از صلیب پایین بیا و خودت را نجات بده.»

⁴¹Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,

⁴¹ همچنین سران كاهنان و علما و مشایخ یهود او را مسخره كرده، می‌گفتند:

⁴²He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.

⁴² «او دیگران را نجات می‌داد، امّا نمی‌تواند خودش را نجات دهد. اگر پادشاه اسرائیل است، حالا از صلیب پایین بیاید و ما به او ایمان خواهیم آورد.

⁴³He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

⁴³ او به خدا توکّل داشت و می‌گفت كه فرزند خداست، پس اگر خدا را دوست داشته باشد او را آزاد می‌سازد.»

⁴⁴The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

⁴⁴ حتّی راهزنانی هم كه با او مصلوب شده بودند، همین‌طور به او توهین می‌کردند.

⁴⁵Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

⁴⁵ از ظهر تا ساعت سه بعد از ظهر تاریكی تمام زمین را فراگرفت.

⁴⁶And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

⁴⁶ نزدیک ساعت سه عیسی با صدای بلند فریاد كرد: «ایلی، ایلی، لما سبقتنی؟» یعنی «خدای من، خدای من، چرا مرا ترک كردی؟»

⁴⁷Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.

⁴⁷ بعضی از کسانی‌که آنجا ایستاده بودند این را شنیده گفتند: «الیاس را می‌خواند.»

⁴⁸And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

⁴⁸ یکی از آنان فوراً دوید و اسفنجی را آورده، در شراب تُرشیده فرو برد و بر نوک چوبی قرار داده، جلوی دهان عیسی برد.

⁴⁹The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.

⁴⁹ امّا دیگران گفتند: «بگذارید ببینیم آیا الیاس می‌آید او را نجات دهد یا نه!»

⁵⁰Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

⁵⁰ عیسی بار دیگر فریاد بلندی كشید و جان سپرد.

⁵¹And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

⁵¹ در آن لحظه پردهٔ اندرون مقدّس معبد بزرگ از بالا تا به پایین دو پاره شد و چنان زمین لرزه‌ای شد كه تخته سنگها شكافته

⁵²And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

⁵² و قبرها باز شدند و بسیاری از مقدّسین كه خفته بودند برخاستند

⁵³And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

⁵³ و از قبرهای خود بیرون آمده، بعد از رستاخیز عیسی به شهر مقدّس وارد شدند و بسیاری از مردم آنان را دیدند.

⁵⁴Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

⁵⁴ وقتی افسر رومی و افراد او كه به پاسداری از عیسی مشغول بودند، زمین لرزه و همهٔ ماجرا را دیدند بسیار ترسیدند و گفتند: «بدون شک این مرد پسر خدا بود.»

⁵⁵And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:

⁵⁵ عدّه‌ای از زنها كه عیسی را خدمت می‌کردند و به دنبال او از جلیل آمده بودند در آنجا حضور داشتند و از دور ناظر جریان بودند.

⁵⁶Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedees children.

⁵⁶ در میان آنان مریم مجدلیه، مریم مادر یعقوب و یوسف و مادر پسران زِبدی دیده می‌شدند.

⁵⁷When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:

⁵⁷ در وقت غروب مردی ثروتمند به نام یوسف كه اهل رامه و یکی از پیروان عیسی بود رسید.

⁵⁸He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.

⁵⁸ او به حضور پیلاطس رفت و تقاضا نمود جسد عیسی به او داده شود. پیلاطس دستور داد كه آن را به او بدهند.

⁵⁹And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

⁵⁹ یوسف جسد را برده در پارچهٔ كتانی تازه پیچید

⁶⁰And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

⁶⁰ و در قبر خود كه تازه از سنگ تراشیده بود، قرار داد و آنگاه سنگ بزرگی در جلوی آن غلطانیده رفت.

⁶¹And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.

⁶¹ مریم مجدلیه و آن مریم دیگر نیز در آنجا مقابل قبر نشسته بودند.

⁶²Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,

⁶² روز بعد، یعنی صبح روز سبت، سران كاهنان و فریسیان به طور دسته جمعی پیش پیلاطس رفته

⁶³Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.

⁶³ گفتند: «عالیجناب، ما به‌یاد داریم كه آن گمراه كننده وقتی زنده بود گفت كه من پس از سه روز از نو زنده خواهم شد.

⁶⁴Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.

⁶⁴ پس دستور بفرما تا روز سوم، قبر تحت نظر باشد، وگرنه امكان دارد شاگردان او بیایند و جسد او را بدزدند و آنگاه به مردم بگویند كه او پس از مرگ زنده شده است و به این ترتیب در آخر كار مردم را بیشتر از اول فریب دهند.»

⁶⁵Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.

⁶⁵ پیلاطس گفت: «شما می‌توانید نگهبانانی در آنجا بگمارید. بروید و تا آنجا كه ممكن است از آن محافظت كنید.» پس آنها رفته قبر را مُهر و مُوم كرده، پاسدارانی در آنجا گماردند تا از قبر نگهبانی كنند.

⁶⁶So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
