¹Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

¹ ای قوم من، تعالیم مرا بشنوید و به آنچه به شما می‌گویم، توجّه نمایید.

²I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

² می‌‌‌‌خواهم با شما با مَثَلها صحبت کنم و شما را از اسرار گذشته،

³Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

³ چیزهایی را که از نیاکان خود شنیده و یاد گرفته‌ایم، آگاه نمایم.

⁴We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

⁴ ما اینها را از فرزندان خود مخفی نمی‌کنیم، بلکه آنها را برای نسلهای آینده بازگو می‌کنیم تا آنها نیز بدانند که، خداوند چه کارهای عجیب و شگفت‌انگیزی انجام داده است.

⁵For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:

⁵ خدا احکام و قوانینی را به قوم اسرائیل و به فرزندان یعقوب داد. او به نیاکان ما دستور داد که آنها را به فرزندان خود بیاموزند،

⁶That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:

⁶ تا نسلهای بعدی هم این احکام را یاد بگیرند و به نوبهٔ خود به نسلهای آینده بیاموزند.

⁷That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

⁷ به این ترتیب آنها یاد می‌گیرند که به خداوند توکّل نمایند و آنچه را که او انجام داده است فراموش نخواهند کرد، بلکه پیوسته اوامر او را اطاعت خواهند نمود.

⁸And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

⁸ آنها مانند اجداد خود، مردمی سرکش و فتنه‌انگیز نخواهند بود، زیرا آنها کسانی بودند که به خدا وفادار نبودند و در ایمانشان استوار نماندند.

⁹The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.

⁹ طایفهٔ افرایم با وجودی که با تیر و کمان مسلّح بودند، در روز جنگ فرار کردند.

¹⁰They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;

¹⁰ آنها به پیمان خود با خدا وفا نکردند و احکام او را بجا نیاوردند.

¹¹And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.

¹¹ آنها معجزات و کارهای خدا را فراموش کردند.

¹²Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

¹² كارهایی را که خدا در برابر چشمان نیاکانشان در سرزمین مصر و دیار صوعن انجام داد.

¹³He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.

¹³ خدا دریا را شکافت و آبها را مانند دیوار نگه ‌داشت و آنها را از میان آن گذرانید.

¹⁴In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.

¹⁴ هنگام روز آنها را به وسیلهٔ ابر، و تمام شب با نور آتش هدایت می‌کرد.

¹⁵He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.

¹⁵ در بیابان، صخره‌ها را شکافت و از اعماق زمین، به آنها آب فراوان داد.

¹⁶He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

¹⁶ او از صخره، چشمه به وجود آورد و آب را مانند رودخانه جاری ساخت.

¹⁷And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.

¹⁷ ولی ایشان باز نسبت به خدای متعال، گناه ورزیدند و در بیابان از او سرپیچی کردند.

¹⁸And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

¹⁸ در دلهای خود، خدا را امتحان کردند و از او غذایی مطابق میل خودشان خواستند.

¹⁹Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

¹⁹ علیه خدا حرف می‌زدند و می‌گفتند: «آیا خدا می‌تواند در این بیابان برای ما خوراک تهیّه کند؟

²⁰Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

²⁰ درست است که او توانست صخره را بزند و رود جاری شود، آیا می‌تواند برای ما نان و گوشت نیز فراهم کند؟»

²¹Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;

²¹ وقتی خداوند شکایت آنها را شنید، بسیار خشمگین شد و آتش غضب او بر بنی‌اسرائیل شعله‌ور گردید،

²²Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

²² زیرا آنها به خدا ایمان نداشتند و باور نمی‌کردند که او آنها را نجات خواهد داد.

²³Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,

²³ ولی خداوند به آسمان فرمان داد و درهای آسمان گشوده شدند

²⁴And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

²⁴ و غلّهٔ آسمانی یعنی مَنّا را بر ایشان بارانید تا بخورند.

²⁵Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.

²⁵ بنابراین آنها غذای فرشتگان را خوردند و خدا آذوقهٔ فراوان به آنان عطا فرمود.

²⁶He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.

²⁶ به باد شرقی امر فرمود که بوزد و با قدرت خود، باد جنوبی را به وزش آورد.

²⁷He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:

²⁷ گوشت را مانند باران و پرندگان را مانند ریگ کنار دریا از آسمان

²⁸And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.

²⁸ در بین اردو‌ها و اطراف اقامتگاه آنها فروریخت.

²⁹So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;

²⁹ پس همگی خوردند و سیر شدند و خدا، آنچه را که می‌خواستند به آنها داد.

³⁰They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,

³⁰ درحالی که لقمه در دهان ایشان بود و هنوز مشتاق خوردن بودند،

³¹The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.

³¹ آتش خشم خداوند بر آنها شعله‌ور گردید و نیرومندترین و بهترین جوانانشان را هلاک کرد.

³²For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.

³² با وجود همهٔ اینها، آنها دست از گناه نکشیدند و با آن که آن‌همه معجزات را دیدند، اعتماد نکردند.

³³Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.

³³ بنابراین خداوند عمرشان را کوتاه، و روزگارشان را با ترس و لرز همراه نمود.

³⁴When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.

³⁴ هرگاه تعدادی از آنها را می‌کشت، بقیّه به سوی او بازگشت می‌نمودند و از صمیم دل توبه می‌کردند.

³⁵And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.

³⁵ آنها به یاد می‌آوردند که خدا پشت و پناه آنهاست و پروردگار متعال، رهانندهٔ ایشان است.

³⁶Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.

³⁶ امّا حرفهای آنها همه دروغ بود و از روی راستی و صفا حرف نمی‌زدند.

³⁷For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.

³⁷ دلهایشان با خدا راست نبود و به پیمان خود با خدا وفا نکردند.

³⁸But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.

³⁸ امّا خدا با رحمت خود گناهانشان را بخشید و آنها را نابود نکرد. او بارها خشمگین شد امّا خشم خود را فرو نشانید.

³⁹For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

³⁹ او به یاد آورد که آنها انسان فانی هستند و مانند بادی هستند که فقط لحظه‌ای می‌وزد و دیگر بر نمی‌گردد.

⁴⁰How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!

⁴⁰ آنها بارها در بیابان در مقابل او سرکشی کردند و او را رنجاندند.

⁴¹Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

⁴¹ آنها بارها او را آزمایش کردند و خدای مقدّس اسرائیل را آزردند.

⁴²They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.

⁴² قدرت عظیم او را فراموش کردند، و روزی که او آنها را از دست دشمنانشان آزاد کرد، به یاد نیاوردند،

⁴³How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan.

⁴³ زمانی که او قدرت عظیم خود را با معجزات و عجایب، بر منطقهٔ صوعن در سرزمین مصر آشکار کرد.

⁴⁴And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.

⁴⁴ آب رود‏ها را به خون تبدیل کرد، طوری که مصریان آب برای خوردن نداشتند.

⁴⁵He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

⁴⁵ و انواع پشه‌ها را فرستاد تا آنها را بگزند و قورباغه‏‌هایی که آنها را هلاک می‌کردند.

⁴⁶He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.

⁴⁶ کِشت و زراعتشان را و محصول زحماتشان را خوراک ملخها ساخت.

⁴⁷He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.

⁴⁷ تاکستانهای ایشان را به وسیلهٔ تگرگ و درختان انجیرشان را با سرما از بین برد.

⁴⁸He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

⁴⁸ رمه‏‌ها و گلّه‏‌هایشان را با تگرگ و رعد و برق نابود کرد.

⁴⁹He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.

⁴⁹ او خشم هولناک و غضب خود را مانند فرشتگان مرگ فرستاد. تا ایشان را به اضطرابی عظیم گرفتار سازد.

⁵⁰He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;

⁵⁰ او از خشم خود دست نکشید، بلکه بلایی فرستاد و آنان را هلاک نمود.

⁵¹And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:

⁵¹ تمام پسران نخستزادهٔ مصریان را هلاک کرد.

⁵²But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

⁵² آنگاه قوم خود را مانند یک شبان راهنمایی کرد و آنان را در بیابان هدایت نمود.

⁵³And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

⁵³ او آنان را در امنیّت رهبری کرد و آنها هیچ ترسی نداشتند. امّا دریا، دشمنان ایشان را غرق نمود.

⁵⁴And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.

⁵⁴ او آنها را به سرزمین مقدّس خود، بر کوهی که خود آن را تسخیر نموده بود، آورد.

⁵⁵He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

⁵⁵ ساکنان آنجا را در مقابل چشمان آنان بیرون راند و سرزمینشان را بین طایفه‌های اسرائیل تقسیم کرد و به عنوان مِلکیّت به آنها بخشید.

⁵⁶Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:

⁵⁶ امّا آنها بار دیگر طغیان کردند و خدای متعال را امتحان نمودند و دستورات او را اطاعت نکردند.

⁵⁷But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

⁵⁷ مانند نیاکان خود به راه کج رفتند، و همچون کمان کج غیر قابل اعتماد شدند.

⁵⁸For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

⁵⁸ با ساختن پرستشگاهها و پرستش بُتها و خدایان غیر، آتش خشم او را برافروختند.

⁵⁹When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:

⁵⁹ چون خدا آن وضع را دید به خشم آمد و قوم اسرائیل را از حضور خود راند.

⁶⁰So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;

⁶⁰ خیمهٔ شیلوه را -‌که جای سکونت او با آدمیان بود- ترک کرد.

⁶¹And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.

⁶¹ به دشمنان فرصت داد تا صندوق پیمان را که نشانهٔ قدرت و جلال او بود، به یغما ببرند.

⁶²He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.

⁶² او از قوم خود خشمگین شد و آنان را به شمشیر دشمنانشان سپرد.

⁶³The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.

⁶³ جوانانشان در آتش جنگ سوختند و دختران جوان بی‌شوهر ماندند.

⁶⁴Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.

⁶⁴ کاهنانشان با شمشیر به قتل رسیدند و بیوه‌های ایشان اجازهٔ ماتم و عزاداری نداشتند.

⁶⁵Then the LORD awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.

⁶⁵ سرانجام، خداوند مانند کسی‌که از خواب بیدار شود و مانند پهلوانی سرخوش از شراب، برخاست.

⁶⁶And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.

⁶⁶ دشمنان خود را به عقب راند و برای همیشه خجل و رسوا ساخت.

⁶⁷Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:

⁶⁷ خانوادهٔ یوسف را رد کرد و طایفهٔ افرایم را نپذیرفت،

⁶⁸But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.

⁶⁸ بلکه طایفهٔ یهودا را، و کوه صهیون را که دوست می‌داشت، برگزید.

⁶⁹And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.

⁶⁹ در آنجا معبد بزرگ خود را که چون آسمان و زمین استوار و پایدار است، برپا نمود.

⁷⁰He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:

⁷⁰ بندهٔ خود داوود را برگزید، او را از چراگاه گوسفندان بیرون آورد،

⁷¹From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.

⁷¹ جایی که گوسفندان پدرش را شبانی می‌کرد، تا شبان قوم او، یعنی بنی‌اسرائیل باشد. داوود نیز از صمیم دل و با کاردانی، پیشوایی آنها را به عهده گرفت.

⁷²So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.

⁷² داوود نیز از صمیم دل و با کاردانی، پیشوایی آنها را به عهده گرفت.
