¹Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

¹Filistenii s'au luptat cu Israel, şi oamenii lui Israel au luat -o la fugă înaintea Filistenilor şi au căzut morţi pe muntele Ghilboa.

²And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.

²Filistenii au urmărit pe Saul şi pe fiii lui, şi au ucis pe Ionatan, Abinadab şi Malchi-Şua, fiii lui Saul.

³And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers.

³Învălmăşeala luptei a prins şi pe Saul; arcaşii l-au ajuns şi l-au rănit.

⁴Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

⁴Saul a zis atunci celui ce -i ducea armele: ,,Scoate-ţi sabia, şi străpunge-mă cu ea, ca nu cumva să vină aceşti netăiaţi împrejur să mă batjocorească.`` Cel ce -i ducea armele n'a voit, căci se temea. Şi Saul şi -a luat sabia şi s'a aruncat în ea.

⁵And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.

⁵Cel ce ducea armele lui Saul, văzîndu -l mort, s'a aruncat şi el în sabia lui, şi a murit.

⁶So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.

⁶Astfel a perit Saul şi cei trei fii ai lui, şi toată casa lui a perit în acelaş timp.

⁷And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

⁷Toţi bărbaţii lui Israel, cari erau în vale, văzînd fuga şi văzînd că Saul şi fiii lui au murit, şi-au părăsit cetăţile şi au fugit şi ei. Şi Filistenii au venit şi s'au aşezat acolo.

⁸And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

⁸A doua zi, Filistenii au venit să jăfuiască morţii, şi au găsit pe Saul şi pe fiii lui, căzuţi pe muntele Ghilboa.

⁹And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings unto their idols, and to the people.

⁹L-au jăfuit, şi i-au luat capul şi armele. Apoi au trimes să dea de ştire prin toată ţara Filistenilor, idolilor lor şi poporului.

¹⁰And they put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.

¹⁰Au pus armele lui Saul în casa dumnezeului lor, şi i-au atîrnat ţeasta capului în templul lui Dagon.

¹¹And when all Jabeshgilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

¹¹Cînd au auzit toţi locuitorii din Iabesul din Galaad tot ce au făcut Filistenii lui Saul,

¹²They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

¹²s'au sculat toţi oamenii viteji, au luat trupul lui Saul şi trupurile fiilor lui, şi le-au dus la Iabes. Le-au îngropat oasele supt stejar, la Iabes, şi au postit şapte zile.

¹³So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;

¹³Saul a murit, pentrucă s'a făcut vinovat de fărădelege faţă de Domnul, al cărui cuvînt nu l -a păzit, şi pentrucă a întrebat şi cerut sfatul celor ce cheamă morţii.

¹⁴And inquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

¹⁴N'a întrebat pe Domnul: deaceea Domnul l -a omorît, şi împărăţia a dat -o lui David, fiul lui Isai.
