¹Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat.

²Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him, and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat.

²Slujitorii lui i-au zis: ,,Să se caute pentru domnul împăratul o fată fecioară; ea să stea înaintea împăratului, să -l îngrijească, şi să se culce la sînul tău; şi domnul meu împăratul se va încălzi.``

³So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the coasts of Israel, and found Abishag a Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

³Au căutat în tot ţinutul lui Israel o fată tînără şi frumoasă, şi au găsit pe Abişag, Sunamita, pe care au adus -o la împărat.

⁴And the damsel was very fair, and cherished the king, and ministered to him: but the king knew her not.

⁴Această fată era foarte frumoasă. Ea a îngrijit pe împărat, şi i -a slujit; dar împăratul nu s'a împreunat cu ea.

⁵Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

⁵Adonia, fiul Haghitei, s'a sumeţit pînă acolo în cît a zis: ,,Eu voi fi împărat!`` Şi şi -a pregătit care şi călăreţi, şi cincizeci de oameni cari alergau înaintea lui.

⁶And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Absalom.

⁶Tatăl său nu -l mustrase niciodată în viaţa lui, zicînd: ,,Pentru ce faci aşa?`` Adonia, de altfel, era foarte frumos la chip, şi se născuse după Absalom.

⁷And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: and they following Adonijah helped him.

⁷El a vorbit cu Ioab, fiul Ţeruiei, şi cu preotul Abiatar: şi aceştia au trecut de partea lui.

⁸But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

⁸Dar preotul Ţadoc, Benaia, fiul lui Iehoiada, proorocul Natan, Şimei, Rei şi vitejii lui David, n'au fost cu Adonia.

⁹And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by Enrogel, and called all his brethren the king's sons, and all the men of Judah the king's servants:

⁹Adonia a tăiat oi, boi şi viţei graşi, lîngă piatra lui Zohelet, care este, lîngă En-Roguel; şi a poftit pe toţi fraţii lui, fiii împăratului, şi pe toţi bărbaţii lui Iuda din slujba împăratului.

¹⁰But Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not.

¹⁰Dar n'a poftit pe proorocul Natan, nici pe Benaia, nici pe viteji, nici pe fratele său Solomon.

¹¹Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not?

¹¹Atunci Natan a zis Bat-Şebei, mama lui Solomon: ,,N'ai auzit că Adonia, fiul Haghitei, s'a făcut împărat, fără să ştie domnul nostru David?

¹²Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.

¹²Vino dar acum, şi-ţi voi da un sfat, ca să-ţi scapi viaţa ta şi viaţa fiului tău Solomon.

¹³Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then doth Adonijah reign?

¹³Du-te, intră la împăratul David, şi spune -i: ,Împărate, domnul meu, n'ai jurat tu roabei tale, zicînd: ,Fiul tău Solomon va împărăţi după mine, şi va şedea pe scaunul meu de domnie?` ,Pentruce dar împărăteşte Adonia?`

¹⁴Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.

¹⁴Şi în timp ce tu vei vorbi cu împăratul, eu însumi voi intra după tine, şi-ţi voi întări cuvintele.``

¹⁵And Bathsheba went in unto the king into the chamber: and the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite ministered unto the king.

¹⁵Bat-Şeba s'a dus în odaia împăratului. El era foarte bătrîn; şi Abişag, Sunamita, îi slujea.

¹⁶And Bathsheba bowed, and did obeisance unto the king. And the king said, What wouldest thou?

¹⁶Bat-Şeba s'a plecat şi s'a închinat înaintea împăratului. Şi împăratul a zis: ,,Ce vrei?``

¹⁷And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by the LORD thy God unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.

¹⁷Ea i -a răspuns: ,,Domnul meu, tu ai jurat roabei tale pe Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, zicînd: ,Solomon, fiul tău, va împăraţi după mine, şi va şedea pe scaunul meu de domnie.`

¹⁸And now, behold, Adonijah reigneth; and now, my lord the king, thou knowest it not:

¹⁸Şi acum iată că Adonia împărăţeşte! Şi tu nu ştii, împărate, domnul meu!

¹⁹And he hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the host: but Solomon thy servant hath he not called.

¹⁹El a junghiat boi, viţei graşi şi oi în mare număr; şi a poftit pe toţi fiii împăratului, pe preotul Abiatar, şi pe Ioab, căpetenia oştirii, dar pe robul tău Solomon nu l -a poftit.

²⁰And thou, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

²⁰Împărate, domnul meu, tot Israelul are ochii îndreptaţi spre tine, ca să -i faci cunoscut cine va şedea pe scaunul de domnie al împăratului, domnului meu, după el.

²¹Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.

²¹Şi cînd împăratul, domnul meu, va fi culcat împreună cu părinţii săi, se va întîmpla că eu şi fiul meu Solomon vom fi priviţi ca nişte vinovaţi.``

²²And, lo, while she yet talked with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in.

²²Pe cînd încă vorbea ea cu împăratul, iată că a sosit proorocul Natan.

²³And they told the king, saying, Behold Nathan the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

²³Au dat de ştire împăratului, şi au zis: ,,Iată că a venit proorocul Natan!`` El a intrat înaintea împăratului, şi s'a închinat înaintea împăratului cu faţa pînă la pămînt.

²⁴And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?

²⁴Şi Natan a zis: ,,Împărate, domnul meu, oare tu ai zis: ,Adonia va împărăţi după mine, şi va şedea pe scaunul meu de domnie?`

²⁵For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king's sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adonijah.

²⁵Căci el s'a pogorît astăzi, a tăiat boi, viţei graşi şi oi, în mare număr; şi a poftit pe toţii fiii împăratului, pe căpeteniile oştirii, şi pe preotul Abiatar. Şi ei mănîncă şi beau înaintea lui, şi zic: ,Trăiască împăratul Adonia!`

²⁶But me, even me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and thy servant Solomon, hath he not called.

²⁶Dar nu m'a poftit nici pe mine, care sînt robul tău, nici pe preotul Ţadoc, nici pe Benaia, fiul lui Iehoiada, nici pe robul tău Solomon.

²⁷Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not showed it unto thy servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?

²⁷Oare din porunca domnului meu, împăratul, are loc lucrul acesta, şi fără să fi făcut cunoscut robului tău cine are să se suie pe scaunul de domnie al împăratului, domnului meu, după el?``

²⁸Then king David answered and said, Call me Bathsheba. And she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king.

²⁸Împăratul David a răspuns: ,,Chemaţi-mi pe Bat-Şeba.`` Ea a intrat, şi s'a înfăţişat înaintea împăratului.

²⁹And the king sware, and said, As the LORD liveth, that hath redeemed my soul out of all distress,

²⁹Şi împăratul a jurat, şi a zis: ,,Viu este Domnul, care m'a izbăvit din toate necazurile,

³⁰Even as I sware unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead; even so will I certainly do this day.

³⁰că, aşa cum am jurat pe Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, zicînd: ,Fiul tău Solomon va împărăţi după mine, şi va şedea pe scaunul meu de domnie în locul meu,` -aşa voi face azi.``

³¹Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth, and did reverence to the king, and said, Let my lord king David live for ever.

³¹Bat-Şeba s'a plecat cu faţa la pămînt, şi s'a închinat înaintea împăratului. Şi a zis: ,,Trăiască pe vecie domnul meu, împăratul David``!

³²And king David said, Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king.

³²Împăratul David a zis: ,,Chemaţi-mi pe preotul Ţadoc, pe proorocul Natan şi pe Benaia, fiul lui Iehoiada.`` Ei au intrat şi s'au înfăţişat înaintea împăratului.

³³The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gihon:

³³Şi împăratul le -a zis: ,,Luaţi cu voi pe slujitorii stăpînului vostru, puneţi pe fiul meu Solomon călare pe catîrul meu, şi pogorîţi -l la Ghihon.

³⁴And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: and blow ye with the trumpet, and say, God save king Solomon.

³⁴Acolo, preotul Ţadoc şi proorocul Natan să -l ungă împărat peste Israel. Să sunaţi din trîmbiţă, şi să ziceţi: ,Trăiască împăratul Solomon!`

³⁵Then ye shall come up after him, that he may come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.

³⁵Să vă suiţi apoi după el ca să vină să se aşeze pe scaunul meu de domnie, şi să împărăţească în locul meu. Căci porunca mea, este ca el să fie căpetenia lui Israel şi Iuda``.

³⁶And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, Amen: the LORD God of my lord the king say so too.

³⁶Benaia, fiul lui Iehoiada, a răspuns împăratului: ,,Amin! Aşa să vrea Domnul, Dumnezeul domnului meu, împăratul:

³⁷As the LORD hath been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.

³⁷Domnul să fie cu Solomon cum a fost cu domnul meu, împăratul, ca să-şi înalţe scaunul de domnie mai pe sus de scaunul de domnie al domnului meu, împăratul David!``

³⁸So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.

³⁸Atunci preotul Ţadoc s'a pogorît împreună cu proorocul Natan, cu Benaia, fiul lui Iehoiada, cu Cheretiţii şi Peletiţii; au pus pe Solomon călare pe cătîrul împăratului David, şi l-au dus la Ghihon.

³⁹And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king Solomon.

³⁹Preotul Ţadoc a luat cornul cu untdelemn din cort, şi a uns pe Solomon. Au sunat din trîmbiţă, şi tot poporul a zis: ,,Trăiască împăratul Solomon!``

⁴⁰And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.

⁴⁰Tot poporul s'a suit după el, şi poporul cînta din fluier şi se desfăta cu mare bucurie; se clătina pămîntul de strigătele lor.

⁴¹And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, Wherefore is this noise of the city being in an uproar?

⁴¹Zvonul acesta a ajuns pînă la Adonia şi la toţi cei poftiţi cari erau cu el, tocmai în clipa cînd sfîrşeau de mîncat. Ioab, auzind sunetul trîmbiţei, a zis: ,,Ce este cu vuietul acesta de care răsună cetatea?``

⁴²And while he yet spake, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came; and Adonijah said unto him, Come in; for thou art a valiant man, and bringest good tidings.

⁴²Pe cînd vorbea el încă, a venit Ionatan, fiul preotului Abiatar. Şi Adonia a zis: ,,Apropie-te, că eşti un om viteaz, şi aduci veşti bune.``

⁴³And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Verily our lord king David hath made Solomon king.

⁴³,,Da``, a răspuns Ionatan lui Adonia, ,,domnul nostru împăratul David a făcut împărat pe Solomon.

⁴⁴And the king hath sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king's mule:

⁴⁴A trimes cu el pe preotul Ţadoc, pe proorocul Natan, pe Benaia, fiul lui Iehoiada, pe Cheretiţi şi Peletiţi, şi l-au pus călare pe catîrul împăratului.

⁴⁵And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon: and they are come up from thence rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that ye have heard.

⁴⁵Preotul Ţadoc şi proorocul Natan l-au uns împărat la Ghihon. De acolo s'au suit veselindu-se, şi cetatea a fost pusă în mişcare: acesta este vuietul pe care l-aţi auzit.

⁴⁶And also Solomon sitteth on the throne of the kingdom.

⁴⁶Solomon s'a şi aşezat pe saunul de domnie al împăratului.

⁴⁷And moreover the king's servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king bowed himself upon the bed.

⁴⁷Şi slujitorii împăratului au venit să binecuvinteze pe domnul nostru împăratul David, zicînd: ,Dumnezeul tău să facă numele lui Solomon mai vestit decît numele tău, şi el să-şi înalţe scaunul de domnie mai pe sus de scaunul tău de domnie!`` Şi împăratul s'a închinat pe patul său.

⁴⁸And also thus said the king, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which hath given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it.

⁴⁸Iată ce a zis şi împăratul: ,,Binecuvîntat să fie Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, care mi -a dat astăzi un urmaş pe scaunul meu de domnie, şi mi -a îngăduit să -l văd!``

⁴⁹And all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way.

⁴⁹Toţi cei poftiţi de Adonia s'au umplut de spaimă; s'au sculat şi au plecat care încotro.

⁵⁰And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

⁵⁰Adonia s'a temut de Solomon; s'a sculat şi el, a plecat, şi s'a apucat de coarnele altarului.

⁵¹And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon: for, lo, he hath caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear unto me today that he will not slay his servant with the sword.

⁵¹Au venit şi au spus lui Solomon: ,,Iată că Adonia se teme de împăratul Solomon, şi s'a apucat de coarnele altarului, zicînd: ,Să-mi jure împăratul Solomon azi că nu va omorî pe robul său cu sabia!``

⁵²And Solomon said, If he will show himself a worthy man, there shall not an hair of him fall to the earth: but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die.

⁵²Solomon a zis: ,,Dacă va fi om cinstit, un păr din cap nu -i va cădea la pămînt; dar dacă se va găsi răutate în el, va muri.``

⁵³So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon: and Solomon said unto him, Go to thine house.

⁵³Şi împăratul Solomon a trimes nişte oameni, cari l-au pogorît de pe altar. El a venit şi s'a închinat înaintea împăratului Solomon, şi Solomon i -a zis: ,,Du-te acasă.``
